Black armor guy was already last man standing in the Fade reveal, but yeah more trailers like that "Machinima like" would be awesome :D

THIS PLEASE!
A Skulk with a tattoo!!
I can't think of anything else that wouldn't break immersion... Another version of the Skulk? Not that anything is wrong with current Skulk. I love Skulks, I play as Skulk for most of the game in my alien games.

I'm only asking because I know you could get some black armor and that's wicked awesome, I want it already!! I wanna look like a black operations operative! Maybe after release, we'll be able to customize our Marine look.
This needs to be said: I'm never a fan of exclusive pre-order content, I prefer everyone to get any kind of extra content and best if it's 100% free. Equality for everyone, no one is left behind :D Now Expansion content I don't mind paying for. For example Payday: The Heist's 1st DLC has a lot for 10 dollars and I know the difference between Capcom-like marketing schemes and good quality content worth paying for because the Payday Dev has been greatly updating the game including awesome freebies like masks and a new map... Coming in 5 days we'll have the Wolf Pack!!
TL;DR Great game, where's my Black Armor?

I was just thinking the same thing. It's not cool. I never had the opportunity, or I would have.
An armor color circle filter thing would be really cool, just allow players to tint their armor any color.
I think just a beta icon next to your name would be enough. Just a symbol of when you started playing, not really anything fancy like more skins (wont make much sense if we're gonna be able to customize our look). Something that shows up on the scoreboard and next to your name when someone is looking at you.
We invested in the game before we even knew if it was really going to happen or release. Even though it's just cosmetic, it's a symbol of that faith in UWE. :P

I feel those who pre-ordered during the beta phase should receive some sort of reward as well. Even if it's something as minor as a "Beta tester" icon next to their name.
I pre-ordered NS2 shortly after it transitioned from alpha to beta, And that was back when the computer specs "Required" to run it were shown, and i assumed "Hey my specs are quite a bit better than this, so i should be able to run it somewhat decently even if it is in the beta" I was wrong. I was horribly wrong. But you know, it's alright. The games still in a beta, and it looked like it would end up being fantastic, so I have no regrets. But i still did invest my money in a product that as of that moment, wasn't optimized nor feature complete.
I do "Feel" (Yes i'm selfish) that I deserve SOME sort of unique reward for my "Support" of NS2, even if it's something extremely small.
TL;DR. People who Pre-ordered NS2 deserve at least a Beta tester badge next to their name if Nyan-cat armor is out of the question
Oh dear, this whole black armour arguement has come back to haunt me. Back when it was being offered with pre-ordering the alpha I was still playing the original natural selection now and then yet I simply never found out that I could pre-order NS2 regardless of still playing NS1 over that year.
Eventually I did find out... 1 week after the offer had ended. I was very eager to pre-order and get testing yet finding out I just missed something limited put me right off. I contacted the devs wondering if there would be a chance to still grab it but sadly no was the answer.
Yes its just a silly cosmetic which alot of people don't care about but you would be surprised how many people actually care about this sort of thing and it even puts them off buying the game.
The game isn't even out yet and this arguement is one which us really going to die hard. Whats rather annoying is people wouldn't even mind paying a premium price to be able to wear that black armour, yes on top of the game price, and why not? More income for unknown worlds is definately a good thing in my book.

You have to remember that the people who bought NS2 when black armor was available were very early investors in the game. It's like how kickstars offer exclusive bonuses to people who donate.
If you offer black armor for anyone for an extra $5 now, it truly trivializes the $40 investment offered by so many players years before the game was even playable.
As a performance maximiser, I am appalled that players can glean unfair advantage through possessing the darker black armour which I find infinitely harder to spot. The only thing that will appease my fury is an exclusive invisible skin for aliens in the near future for me, myself and Irene.

I understand what you mean, yet one has to see that this black armour is going to always going to invoke some drama.
If the armour was on offer again I can't see how it would trivialize the investment purely because the game is going to be success and that it what is at the heart of an investment. Seeing a product grow, evolve and thrive thanks to your input.
You helped UWE by placing an early pre-order and got the reward of cosmetic black armour and helping them create the game. One could now help UWE by paying them for the privilege to wear said cosmetic armour. Extra cash flow for something oh so very simple which could actually go towards improving the game even further.
Many might disagree with my way of viewing this but luckly my opinion isn't worth much ;)

They have shiny blue lights on them and you have alien vision. It's hardly an advantage.
I think by advantage he meant players like in TF2 that have a cooler hat than you obviously have an advantage. The advantage is only in the "impressing the (non-existant) ladies" department :P

I'm pretty torn on the subject, but personally I think a small company like UWE has it right with the idea of supporting their very small, very initial core of investors. Spurning those people willing to extend the super-early olive branch is not a wise move, as it has definitely picked up an audience and momentum since those pre-orders.
I could be biased as I am one of the black-armor preorders, but I don't think from a sensible company stance, it's smart to alienate or take away an incentive you gave to your core of faithful clients. Maybe offering an additional/separate incentive to the post-2010 orders would be viable. No point in taking away the priveledge already extended to those of us who ordered super early.
I agree that black armor should stay as it is (don't bring it back). When you pre-ordered to get it you payed 10$ extra to get it ($40 total)- and the alpha at that point included one demo map with some little ragdolls you could practice shooting at. The game was not actually playable at all for another year or two after that because of the severe performance issues and lack of features. As people stated above, it was an investment to help the devs' out in their hour of greatest need and it was made in good faith (the future of the game was still a little uncertain back then).
That said, they could easily do something else for pre-orders. There are ingame icons, or if you want something distinguishing in-game I think it's been suggested before that a skulk with red eyes or something wouldn't be that hard to implement:
(normal skulk on the left)
a while back in one of the Q&A's, the devs said they WILL be doing icons next to your name for everyone who was involved in the beta. an example of them is already in w/ the PAX icons. not many people have them, but you can see a few playtesters rocking them in the TB videos.
so fear not greenies, you'll be getting a beta icon eventually. its just not a high priority to get the icons in the game right now

Edit: Being butthurt is not my thing, but i do enjoy in game "prizes" for certain activities. I find the black armor to be awesomely designed and a fun pay off for purchasing the alpha. I dont think it should be given out to beta players. But other stuff, like the PAX logo is kind of random. Random people are given out in game distinguishing "items" for not much of contribution or effort. Other beta players who have been around for a long time (not talking about myself, i've been able to play the game only for a year now) don't get any praise because they were caught in this weird limbo: Right after Alpha, but before PAX or other events. That, i find a bit unfair. So to summarize: If you're going to reward players, you can't just reward a few. A reward system needs to be well thought out as it can make a lot of players feel left out when you're giving away "distinguishing labels" at, what seems, random.

We invested in the game before we even knew if it was really going to happen or release. Even though it's just cosmetic, it's a symbol of that faith in UWE. :P

As someone who pre-ordered in 2010 and must have just missed the cutoff, I won't have anything to show for it and take a bit of offense to that. =p
