They gave warnings ahead of time for everyone watching. Without spending money on advertising (which still is not an option for them), what more could they possibly do to get your attention to their game that is still in alpha? Most players wouldn't blink an eye at a game till there are at least some videos or a demo/beta available.
If people wanna get offended because they missed a public set date... :\ That's like me getting offended I missed out on special tickets to a concert by a day, even though the show is still 6 months off. (which recently happened) Do I complain about it? No, I got regular tickets (which, like the normal NS2 copy, are cheaper than the meet-and-greet tickets/black armor), and will enjoy the concert come December with everyone else.
(and shaker, I realize you're probably being sarcastic - these are just my 2 cents in general :D)
It's hard to compare virtual goods to a limited event such as a consert ;)
Regardless... word of mouth wasn't enough to spread info about supporting NS2 alpha. I was playing NS1 alot during that time and never caught wind of it, which just seems off.
Alot of people got left in that limbo state which is a real shame considering 2010 alpha players that don't have black armour could easily be given it.
Now theres pax and beta specials being thrown in, oh my what else? ^^

Not totally sarcastic, but just a light hearted complaint. As you can see by my reg date (like you), I've been around NS for a long time. NS2 was in development for a REALLY long time. After awhile I got to the point where I would just check the site out every few months as there were no updates and I didn't want a pipe dream toying with my emotions (I love the NS theme and gameplay.) At some point I didn't check on NS for a good year. When I came back, boom, there was a pre-alpha?? A pre-order! I was excited and then realized all I could buy was standard edition, I did what I could to show my support. That's the only point I was making. I don't think its anything comparable to your concert analogy for that reason.
As i recall there was plenty of warnings and if i remember correctly an extra 2 weeks added to the special editions sale time.
I do agree that something should be given to those who bought into the beta maybe a small icon or so but i disagree with it being something major.
You have to remember that the game runs like silk compared to its alpha days, I mean how many of you have had a gfx card die from loading up the ready room :P (alpha was alpha .. and amd cards run hot normally :P )
So basically Im saying give them something like a badge maybe.. But i payed for that black armor in pc parts ! And i would happily do it again .. im so happy to see the progress thats been done over the last year.
To think a small indie company has done what many triple A developers can not is amazing.

Actually the situation is nearly identical to what I had happen to me with the concert. One generally hits my area once a year, but I forgot all about it and checked too late. It's coming!? And with a special option I could afford this time!?
Anyway, I totally get that you would have if you could, and I do think it'd be nice for something to be offered to all the beta supporters :)
I wouldnt be too impressed if UWE did suddenly decide to let others get the black armor now, its the only thing that says I ran through the wooden target shooting range, at 5 fps.
I played too much NS2 during its development, so I got a bit burnt out so I havent really played in a while so I am noob like in my skill and understanding, without my armor I may as well bought the game today for all my skill and expertise in the game show.
A beta badge, yeah sure but no to the armor... its a mark of the 5 fps wooden target shooting range veterans.

Not sure if it's doable, but if they did a selectable icon which displayed your joining/enlistment year(think tf2 medals), you could easily show off your join date elitism.
At the end of the day, I don't want DLC that's limited to a few people :D
I'm waiting for customization, then we can put this Black Armor DLC to rest. I want my Marine to have black armor, with a helmet that covers his face completely, and a cool Cobra logo at the back of his armor. Are we getting Halo Reach style customization? That's the only MP FPS game I played that lets you switch out to different pieces of armor to make a unique looking character. I like that.

I got something like that :P
I also missed out on the Black Armor by 3 days. Didn't have the money before and afterwards I had to spend it on something else. Took me a long time to be able to buy NS2 >_> I am still sad about that though.
Would be nice if we got something for Betaing though.
Giving gamers something extra to beta players can be nice because a few gamers that pre-ordered the game can't even play beta on there machines. Do it for them ;) and everyone else after that :D
As much as I would love the black armor, you do have to give props to people who bought the game before anything was even there to play. It's just too bad so few of us knew about it otherwise I would have.
But the preorder beta players also deserve something. Perhaps some little doodads, extra gear, and patches or decorations on the standard marine armor which make them look like more seasoned soldiers or squad sergeants.

I don't think UWE will ever give out black armors again after that PT fiasco. Plus, special edition was on sale for more than a full year and UWE sent out numerous e-mails about pre-ordering and deadlines etc. Pretty much all hardcore NS1 fans bought a copy of ns2 during that time. So, you had your chance and you just missed it.
Black armor was more than a "first come first serve"
It was a commitment to a game that saying "wasn't even made" would be an understatement. Pre-alpha NS2 was nothing more than a laggy tech demo at that point, and people with black armor had to pay a premium 40$ (as opposed to the 20$ option). Which also gave access to the alpha.
To me it was no decision, I didn't care if NS2 tanked and ceased to exist in terms of my money. The amount of enjoyment I got out of NS1 was worth the 40$ of support.
But then again, I have literally been waiting for NS2 since HL2 came out and I heard that they were going to make a source version of the best HL1 mod in existence.
Maybe give the helmet that the black armor guys get to the Beta testers and color it to match the default armor instead? That way we'd still get something kinda cool but the black armor soldiers would still be unique.
It was very clearly stated that the black armor was an exclusive for the time limited special edition. A special thank you to the early investors. You missed out on it? Too bad. Sometimes you miss out on things. I play League of Legends. I'd love some of the christmas skins. They aren't available anymore and they never will be - I don't cry over it.
I would like to see everyone who pre-ordered it get a little something as a thank you as well, but if they've said that a perk is limited to a group, it should be limited to a group. Give something else for all the beta testers and never make the black armor available again.

Thats the reason I bought it too.
I'm sure if you would be able to have it now, 2 weeks later 07% of you would be bored and never ever think about it again. You always want something you can't have, and when you do, you're just bored about it a couple of weeks later ;).

Pretty good promotion potential.
Have a 10 years of natural selection trailer. At the end have a promotion detailing that if you play within a specific time-frame of the anniversary you unlock ns1 legacy armor for the marines.

I'd like something for Beta players as well. Obviously not black armor, but I'd be lying if I said a badge wouldn't slightly bother me. A full armor vs a little pin seems even more of a statement of superiority from alpha to beta than alpha to vanilla (post-launch).
What i'm saying is, I'd feel like I was being told I wasn't "as NS2" or whatever if beta players didn't get something on par with black armor. Maybe red or something, I dunno. As long as it's more than just a little stamp. Otherwise, I'd rather play with just a normal skin.

Yes this! I was gonna say give us a bad ass Beam sword instead of the Axe and make the Weider a support item so we can keep using our beam sword >) I like the Full armor idea though. Or give us a bad ass Helmet like one in Halo Reach.

Exclusive weapons seem too much. Like I said from black armor v. badge, Laser sword v. Normal axe is way to big of a "coolness buffer zone." It should be something at least within reach of black armor [though not 100% equal, think 90%], but defiantly not something that would create NS2 long jealousy. Just a "first few days of playing NS2, then get over it" jealousy. Again, like the black armor.
