Anyone know why HBZ doesn't use this? I play on there most often but it doesn't have stat tracking :(

Also, I feel like there are too many pie charts, they are one of the worst ways to display information. Also in the pie charts the colours aren't the same for each weapon, it just colours them from most to least, so it can be confusing. I think simple bar graphs or even just tables showing the numbers would be easier to read.

    Hi Wilson!

dePara himself explained why they don't use stats you can find the explanation <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=120060&view=findpost&p=1962206" target="_blank">here</a>.

I find the pie charts great when i want to see for example how big portion of my kills are made with specific weapon, or how many times summit is played. Bar graphs are definately better when you want to compare the series as Yuuki pointed out earlier. I'm sure won't remove pie charts completely anytime soon, i'm up for changing some of the pie charts to bar charts though. I can admit I haven't thought the chart types thoroughly. So feel free to make detailed suggestions which ones we should change.

It seems strange to not have the stats on the hbz server considering they also track other things besides k:d, they also show top score etc.

The main thing with the pie charts is that the colours are not consistent. For exmaple, on the selected weapon chart the rilfe might be blue, but then on the kills by weapon the shotgun could be blue. I think it would be better to keep the colours consistent for the weapons so it is easier to read. Perhaps also having a table with the raw stats displayed underneath would be good, as it can be difficult to read the pie charts at a glance, or to try and see all of the stats at once because you need to mouse over to see the actual numbers. Keep up the great work anyway, it's awesome what you have done so far.

i actually like the fact that hbz doesn't track stats. sometimes you just don't want to play a very serious game. you could be trying out a new commander tactic, show the game to a friend or maybe you are simply drunk and just want some relaxed fun. whatever the reason, it's good to have this choice imo.
and if you want to track your stats, there are still plenty of servers available.

Yes I agree the colors are confusing, but changing to bar charts wouldn't really help. I think i will sort the series alphabetically soon so that the colors will always be same but the chunks of the pies are not sorted from biggest to smallest. I could also fix the colors while keeping the sorting as it is but i'm not sure if i have time to do it yet.

So <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=121172" target="_blank">this thread</a> has gotten me interested in doing an updated <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=114175&hl=" target="_blank">balance analysis</a> for NS2 and I'd like to use the data from ns2stats.org. The problem is that I work in spreadsheets and I don't see any good way of getting there from how the data is presented on your website. I was wondering if you could add a simple data export function that produces something like a comma or space delimited text file that I could easily import into Excel. In particular, I'd only need the following info exported for each round:
    - Build
    - Date/Time
    - Server (name and IP would be best, but I could settle with just the name for now)
    - Match length
    - Match map
    - Match winner
    - Match playercount for each side
    - Match total score for each side
    - Match total kills for each side
    - Match total deaths for each side

For the last four (playercount, total score, kills, and deaths) I'd actually like to see a time-weighted average rather than those values at the end of the round. For example, for the playercount, I would add all of the player's match times and divide by the total match length. This is to help account for end-game quits or game starts with low playercount. I've given an example of how I envision the exported data to look like and how to do the calculations <a href="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5490563/ns2stats%20example.xlsx" target="_blank">here</a>, though it should include all of the players that played in the match, not just the ones at the end.

You guys have done a fantastic job on the site and I love just browsing the various matches. However, if you can just go a little bit further, I could do some cool balance analysis with the data you've collected.

Off of your post Scardybob, I wish UWE had a publicly available global API with info that sites like NS2 Stats and yourself could use... so that servers would not necessarily need to mod themselves to be tracked by it, and so that all servers data could be recorded instead of just those that have the mod...would make for beautiful, accurate stats.
  • ScardyBobScardyBob ScardyBob Join Date: 2009-11-25 Member: 69528Forum Admins, Forum Moderators, NS2 Playtester, Squad Five Blue, Reinforced - Shadow, WC 2013 - Shadow
Ironically, they did for a while (which is where I got the data for my original balance analysis). However, it was causing a nasty server crash bug, so they switched services and just haven't had time to make a proper public API yet. I've been bugging them for a while about it, but I doubt we'll see it until after the v1.0 release.

That being said, I still think your stats system can provide all the info I need to do a decent updated balance analysis. The key is having enough detail that I can control for confounding variables (e.g. skill stacking, low playercounts, different maps, match length, etc).

    Hi ScardyBob

I saw your balance analysis earlier today and was also wondering what the results would be with our data. Good work with the analysis.
I would really like to write some kind of export functionality for statisticians to get step further. However programming an export function like this takes fair amount of work and I don't think it's a priority currently as there are still big bugs around that cause many rounds not to be logged at all etc. We're currently fixing these and bringing new features.

But writing a manual script to fetch this info into an excel was not too big of a deal so i created a file including about 7000 rounds with the data you requested. The file can be found <a href="http://ns2stats.org/scardybob-18-9-2012.zip" target="_blank">here</a>. I'm on my way to bed so I didn't really double check if the data is correct, but you should be able to do it yourself by comparing the data to the data available on the website. The first column of the website is the same round id that is used on the url of the website when viewing information of a round. this is just a simple export and doesn't include all the stuff you had put into your excel example but i hope it helps.

Let me know if you find any mistakes or some crucial data is missing and i will add it there.

Can't wait to see the results of your analysis.

I would also appreciate any ideas for new stuff to track and display on the website.

    Thanks!

And for anyone who got 220 on their servers now; we don't know does the current version of ns2stats lua mod work with it, it's already a month old version anyways, and we have now coded for the past month the newer version of lua mod with Synomi and it's pretty much ready to go, just waiting Zeikko to code the new parser for our website so in case if it doesn't work, don't worry there'll be a new version of ns2stats lua mod available in just a day or two, depending on how lazy Zeikko is going to be so direct all your hate to him if the older version won't work :>

    New ns2stats-lua version will include:
-New way to send the logs to the site which we hope, and most likely, will prevent unfinished logs, aka failed logs.
-Damage tracing on players and on structures.
    -Weapon accuracy tracing
    -Medpack accuracy tracing
    -Mecpack/ammo/nano/enzyme etc. overall tracing
    -Resource flow tracing.
    -Bug fixes :>

And maybe some other stuff that I can't remember. Anyways, the lua mod is already done and tested on our server so it won't be more than a day or two, RIGHT ZEIKKO?!

Yes, we hope so; it most likely was because of the way we sent logs at the end of the game, now they are being sent throughout the game in small pieces so there shouldn't be any cutoff logs or rounds with everyone having 0 score.

The main problem with the site is that it's slow as ######, I can't browse with such low fps! Is it written in lua?
  • YuukiYuuki Join Date: 2010-11-20 Member: 75079Members
A nice feature would be to have the errors on the proportions, for example in summit you have 70% alien wins when they start in flight control, with 46 games the error is around 13% so it's 70 +/- 13%.

Formula is here: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binomial_proportion_confidence_interval" target="_blank">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binomial_prop...idence_interval</a> (Normal approximation interval)

A game on All-in frag fest didn't get recorded about 30 minutes ago, but the game right after it did. Maybe because it was too long? Also I had 118 kills in it so plz halp.

    Hi Garfu,

    Sweet stats!

I'm sorry but we can't fix the stats of this round because there's a problem with the stats system that causes the stats of a very long round like this to get corrupted during the transmission process from the game server to the webserver.

We have been working long to find a fix for this problem and I think we have nailed it now and it should be released soon after the game is patched also.

I'm sorry, it sucks to lose good stats like this, it has happened to me many times too.

    <b>New ns2stats version 0.28 beta is out!</b>

Changelog and download links can be found:

    <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=119419&view=findpost&p=1979986" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/in...t&p=1979986</a>

It will take some time before we get ns2stats.org updated for new version, should be updated in about 12 hours. So there won't be new games recorded before then in build 220.

    nice changes.

two things i'd like to suggest:

    1. seperate rookie-friendly-server-stats. it makes me sick to see that there are indeed already some experienced players who are skill-stacking on those servers...

    2. a coin flip command (very simple to code and could be useful for competitive games)

I was wondering if you could add playercount to the data and run that script again? I was thinking I could just use the marine/aliens seconds played (or back-calculate the playercount from those numbers) to estimate any playercount imbalances, but its proven difficult, if not impossible, to do.

Edit: On a second look, I guess I'm having problems recreating the values you have for seconds_played, score, kills, and deaths for both sides. Can you explain more about how you calculated them, such as the equation/algorithm you used and whether they just include data from a snapshot at the end of the round or continuously collected during? I've uploaded the workbook I'm using <a href="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5490563/Balance%20Analysis%20-%20NS2Stats.xlsx" target="_blank">here</a>, where the first worksheet is where I'm trying to recalculate the values for the 12th match in the data export from the match data on the website.

I'd want to notify everyone, especially the server owners, that there's a new version of ns2stats and actually a guide how to install it to your server before workshop way is fixed.

Guide can be found here: <a href="http://ns2stats.org/server/admin" target="_blank">http://ns2stats.org/server/admin</a>

Anyways, we'd love to see more servers having stats on so we have more data to work on, cheers :>

Yeah could definately use more servers with the stats mod so we don't have to rename ns2stats to All-In stats.

btw. You need to login to the website by pressing the login link in the top right corner before you can see the installing instructions in <a href="http://ns2stats.org/server/admin" target="_blank">http://ns2stats.org/server/admin</a>

There must be atleast 10 players in teams for the majority of a round and the server needs to have the ns2stats mod installed, configured properly and running.
