So did anyone else catch Charlie talking about the alien answer to phasegates on the stream just now? Gorge tunnels? Sounds pretty dang awesome if not terribly asymmetrical ;)

yeah that sounds hilarious.
the gorge does need something like it too, it's a bit too 'im needed to heal, but everything is full health meeeeeh'.
This was something they wanted ages ago, it would be amazing if they got this to work haha! I thought it was just going to teleport the player, but I think you'll be able to move inside!
Won't believe it till more "official" info is release. For all we know, Charlie could have just been sarcastically giving a joke answer to the stupid question that was asked....
I mean...<b>"We're currently working on it right now"</b>, i mean, dont you guys think thats abit dumb for such a small team to be working on such a big new feature....with all the other more needed features (e.g. replay systemm which they are not even working on right now)...and bugs to be fixed?
Like the TF2 teleporter for the gorge. Only placeable on infestation. Maybe a building that needs to be upgraded from the second hive. Bile bomb moving to the third? I don't know. But it shouldn't be available from the start.
If it's something like 15 pres it can't be built anyway, and don't forget that aliens will probably need infestation to wherever this could probably be built.
Shifts are available pretty much 15 seconds into the game, they do more or less the same job, and they're fine. I don't see why this would be a problem.

Yeah, probably. But being able to connect two hives via fast travel is much more of a buff than shifts can do. Something needs to balance it.
A gorge-based nydus network/canal/worm would be pretty baller. Where it would fit in and whether or not other things would have to be rearranged is, of course, an issue.

Maybe it'll be for skulks/gorges only. Wave spawns can move quickly over the map. Gorges more mobile as well. Makes both of the classes a bit more useful.
In any case, I hope Charlie wasn't just joking, because I really dig the idea. A good way to deepen the alien gameplay a bit more.
I'm skimming through it right now, but UWE have talked about this before. Remember? ;)
I Think it was this one: Will confirm soon. <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/news/2007/12/14th_podcast_alien_features" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/news/2007..._alien_features</a>
YUP! Skip to 10:20 to hear about the deets, from 2007 :) (They were still on souce at this point).
I always assumed vents were the compromise, but I guess its happening! Im excited to see how it works out. I always imagined dynamic antion nests from HL2:E2, but in NS2. We shall see,

EDIT: Oh you mean during todays cast? I would just check the stream recording after the last match. They are standinga around a table, and dont say anything in particular, other than, we are adding alien tunnels. The 2007 podcast has more details relating to the idea, even though its from a long time ago.
Lets wait for some official confirmation, because we get all excited and worked up over nothing.
I wish it was true, but i dont see it happening.
But it would no doubt help aliens a great deal, not to mention make gorges more fun to play, instead as in a video where one of the devs played as a gorge, he sat around doing like nothing, its freaking boring playing gorge sitting in one hive room, and GL trying to get to another hive room without dying, and even then the other hive room doesnt have anystuff, now that would be so bad if you could move quickly between the hives.
BUt sitting in a hive room and killing the the rare marine that pops up, thats really bad game design. It would be like if engineers in TF2 just sat behind their turret all the time . And yes bad engineer does that :), but the tools are there to be more mobile and actually contribute to the team in other ways than turtle somewhere.
They should just have it as a hive upgrade. It won't add anything to the gorge for it to be able to build them, and linking hives seems to make a lot more sense even gameplay-wise. Essentially inferior to hive teleport any way they implement it. I doubt UWE would care though, as they are still pushing for walljump even though it will always be inferior to bhop, they just want to put a new spin on things no matter what.

Also, NeoRussia, wrong thread to talk about bunny hopping.
Maybe using the dig-skill would put Gorge into digging animation, showing the player a commander view (stripped of the UI elements) where he can place the other end of the tunnel on the map, on infestation, like any other building.
I'm picturing this sweet micro world that mirrors the real but to like 1/5 scale so you slip into this alternate reality where the layout mirrors the map but everything is way more compact so you only have to walk a little way to reach the next portal... Oh and aesthetically everything looks washedout like your blinking....

As a Commander I usually go Gorge and sit around in the hive waiting for some lonely Marine to show up, but it gets old fast when you got 3 hives
This could be really cool
Or maybe not, I have no idea.

Ah good ole combat, then build menu and xmenu. i.e. grow up, how long will this game go on with the missing upgrades and the constant BS?

Maybe the gorge tunnels won't be too extensive, like a maximum range and they actually 'appear' to tunnel through walls in maps.
