Commanding -Accidental upgrades and other issues

I have only commanded a few times and one of the biggest problems is accidently upgrading things. Apparently cancel does nothing, when you accidently upgrade to shade. I helped loose a game from this. The small translucent icons against an infastated ground can be hard to see.
Also is there any way to find out what abilities you have? If someone ninja kills your carapice tower, you loose the ability and the I might only find out from a player that we dont have that ability anymore.
Aliens is a lot less stressful/task loading than marine commanding.
Lastly seems not to many people want to comm, I am not the biggest fan of it since I suck at multitasking. I wish more people wanted to do it, but I am feeling it will become less of an issue once people get to know the game better.

I know and I have but apparently it looks like your hive is still a vail hive. It almost like it is still upgrading in the background as after I cancel it I can drop vail towers a few minutes after i cancel it. Either that or I hit it accidently again in two seperate games. I need to test and reconfirm.
It's called shade, and no you probably just pressed the button again. I've accidentally upgraded a hive to the wrong thing a few times and cancelled it without incident.
I like that.
Plus they need to be more visible. They blend way to easily to the background.
As a side note, when I first started marine commanding I had a huge problem with accidental recycling, my structures would just be there one moment gone the next and I wouldn't know why. Took me a little while to realize that it was because I had bound V to voice chat. There should be some sort of warning prompt alerting you if a standard bind that is used in commander mode(like voice chat) conflicts with one of the comm hotkey binds.
By the way, an easy way to tell which upgrades you have is to jump out of the hive and press B for a moment ;-) . Just saying.
This.
Disable Commander Help. Issue resolved.
The 'escape' key will deselect your current selection sometimes, but then sometimes it brings up the menu. As others have said, trying to use the map can be a disaster if you aren't paying attention. These are issues that need to be ironed out soon. It's doable now, but it has the potential to be immensely frustrating in the heat of battle for even the most seasoned commanders.
EDIT: Ok, so I'm disabling that nonsense. Nifty there's an option, but the key binding issue remains.

This!!!!
I once lost a game because I was not able to beacon.
the flipping "build Prot Lab" was right over my obs.
At that point I looked through the options, disabled that mothertrucker and I will never look back.

So just screw over newbie comms that don't know better.
While I've made my suggestions known on this topic in another thread, I disagree that it will "Screw them over." Most players will only take commanding once they've got a foot in some of the changes from NS1 to NS2, and those who haven't played it, recognize immediately, that commanding is a big deal. ("You! Get in there!" - "This is my second time playing!! Nononononono~ *Panic Attack!!*")
On top of that, Commander Help actually did help. Seeing the suggested structures in the middle of the map made me thing "Maybe I should get on that second spur" or "Right! Phase Tech still exists! The Obs!!" I only returned to the options to disable it because I felt the point where the icons got in the way. "No, I didn't want a Shift Hive off the bat. Well, we'll see how this goes anyway."
Other then that, just watchout you don't hit hotkeys by accident
