Secondary Weapon Purchaseables

So I think the Marine arsenal is due for some new equipment hopefully in the upcoming patches, and something I think that would be really cool is if the developers added upgradeable secondary weapons into the game,

What I mean by that is, in the same way marines can purchase a shotgun in place of their light machine gun, what if marines could purchase something like a revolver or some other tool in place of their pistol?

You could add all sorts of items to the #2 slot that could be puchaseable from the armory and become researchable by the commander, think of the new options we could introduce that would be fun and exciting!

K just throwing that out there, peace.

Sounds like a lot of dev time to invest into something that will add very little to the game. Also, this thread belongs here.

Light sabers and chain saws and flame pistols, maybe a spear tipped with an onos horn that exosuits can upgrade after they kill an onos.

They might be able to do something if the user was willing to give up their primary weapon. Simple example would be perhaps dual upgraded pistols if you give up your LMG. There would need to be a tradeoff though. A better secondary would need to be paired with a weakness. (it can't be a straight-up upgrade that would make the pistol obsolete, since that runs counter to Charlie's high level design principles.)

The shotgun is a direct upgrade of the lmg, there is no reason not
to have a purchased UPGRADE that could do something else to your secondary slot as well.

seems like a pointless res sink to me tbh.
Maybe they could at one point introduce heavy weapons which need both the primary and seconday slot.

Small portable motion tracker that shows cloaked aliens as red blip on your minimap and any team mates within 3 metres radius of user when out.
Though camo would need buffing to make this work.

Other than that maybe a flare gun for both power outages and distraction (ie appear to be doing damage somewhere your not)

Actually, Charlie has repeatedly noted that the shottie is not a replacement for the LMG since it lacks range. It's also why you'll never see the HMG return to the game since *that* is a direct upgrade.

I don't disagree with you about secondary upgrades, I don't know why you disagreed with my post. My only observation is that any secondary weapon would need to have a 'down side'. Fewer bullets, or perhaps a better weapon if you give up your primary since it turns the secondary into a primary.

Actually more along with what hackenspit said with the motion tracker or flare gun. There is very little you can do with the pistol that would be considered an upgrade even situationally without overtaking the primary, the pistol is already very powerful. Sacrificing it for a utility slot of some kind seems to be the way to go.

    I say: Give marines a Nerf-Gun as a secondary weapon. :D

If you shoot on a skulk and hit it, it will move like a brick and be glued to the walls.

If you shoot on a gorge, its spit damage will be decreased to 15.

If you shoot on a lerk, he will erupt over 9000 plasma-bang-acid-poison-cloud-fire-tracers, when he shoots a single spike. The lerk will also be forced to hovar without flapping.

If you shoot on a fade, the damage output of all shotguns against fades is quadrupled for 30 minutes.

If you shoot on an onos, health, armor and damage for all onoses will be reduced to 50%, because "Ermahgahd, ya kan nahd kill dat big elienz. Idis sooo unfair!".

If you shoot on a babbler... you have really wasted ammo. :D

I would also welcome the possibility to upgrade the secondary weapon, because some of the primary weapons, like flamethrower, but most importantly the grenade launcher have very poor stopping power, and someone screams "buy jetpack!", I would like to point out that slightly stronger, and possibly expensive secondary weapon (inferior to LMG still, of course), could give the specialists at least a fighting chance. Something like a high-caliber pistol, or a submachine gun, perhaps.

Too many are favoring the marines. The pistol is strong enough as it is. It seems stronger than the rifles...

    Angry Child:

Mines are already that additional secondary, but without any penalty of actually losing your pistol

Likely there won't ever be a replacement for it, but just more 1 time use deployables like hand grenades or maybe a hologram?

Bringing balanced additions into the game is not "favoring". More powerful items should be of course more expensive to balance the advantage.

Saying that pistol is stronger than rifle is absurd, because if it was the case, you would see majority of players using pistol instead of the LMG, which is not happening. How could it be stronger? Pistol does light (inferior) damage to armored lifeforms, and has limited ammo capacity. It's a decent backup weapon in emergency, but that's all.
