Casters- Can we have double casting?

Problem- While first person view and free cam view have their merits, they also have big disadvantages. We still see the majority of matches casted in RTS view, and some would like to see more direct action.

Solution- Have two people cast and both people record the match. One person casts it in RTS view and streams it live on twitch, and the other person stays in First Person or Free Cam, the whole game. After the match is done, you edit the original video to include the first person action highlights. Imagine having picture in picture- RTS in the major part of the screen, and a smaller window with first person action added in to the corner. If a recorded highlight was so good, you could even pause the RTS part and rewatch a first person highlight in slow mo. Instead of choosing RTS or FPS, why not have the best of both worlds and make the video a little longer? With good editing, we don't even need live commentary anymore. You can prepare the commentary carefully to be effective. With the finals coming up and so much at stake going on in those matches, I would definitely rather watch an edited version.

If you have an edited cast showing both the RTS view and FPS replays, players of all skill levels will be able to appreciate the finer nuances of the match.

It would be great to see matches that aren't live streamed, but every player is recorded then it's all edited. In a major fight 1 person from each side would be first person Pic in pic in the corner and you could see the fight from both perspectives. Wishful thinking.

Its an interesting idea, but its a huge amount of extra work compared to livestreaming. Though, for the big matches (e.g. semis/finals) it might be worthwhile to try.

ENSL rules requires all the players to be recording demos so, in theory, you could have all the players send their demos. The caster could then record and splice the FPS viewpoints into the relevant casted portions.

As much as i agree, its a massive undertating doing that.

Does twitch support the ability to cut between 2 different camera feeds? Caster A could do the normal top down. Caster B can chase the action in free look / first person. Then all that is needed is to cut between the feeds.

Holy crap that would be a lot of work...

It would be neat to have the comm view with a PiP of first person view controlled by a second caster in the corner of the screen.

After looking into this a bit, it looks possible but not directly through twitch. From what I can tell, you can do something like this:
    • Stream [Caster 2] --> Private RTMP Server [Caster 1]
    • Private RTMP Server [Caster 1] --> VLC [Caster 1]
    • VLC [Caster 1] --> Streaming program via Window/Software Capture [Caster 1]
    • Stream [Caster 1] --> Livestreaming Site [Twitch]

Effectively, the primary caster is setting up a private server that the second caster is streaming to. There will likely be something like a 1-3s delay from the second casters viewpoint, but that's pretty much unavoidable. I'm going to try to see if I can get this running to see how feasible it is/bandwidth/hardware requirements.

have ns2hd and wasabi cast while someone casts silently looking over the map and combine them somehow?

I just wish we had something like this which was posted a while back but with a delay:

Now that that's in, I have a proposal for another major update to the spectator system: super spectators!

What's a super spectator you ask? Well, it's a spectator client, and a spectator server. What it does is connect to the game server as a spectator, and maintain a complete game state, for the entire map. Then, regular spectators (i.e. actual players) connect to the super spectator, to watch that game from any perspective (first, third, any player, etc.).

The idea is to take away (or significantly reduce) the responsibilities of spectator tracking and networking, and delegate them to this spectator server (which is a smart NS2 proxy/broadcaster, in a sense). The main benefit, besides helping with server performance, is that you can scale this very well... you have one super spectator on the main game server, then this super spectator can hopefully handle at least 200 spectators (since it doesn't do game logic/calculations, it only broadcasts game state as it comes). If you need more than one super spectator server can handle, you just connect more super spectators to the first super spectator, and viola... scale!

Would be so cool if it was like Dota 2 where you could control the camera as a spectator, chat with other spectators, etc., without disrupting the game itself.

Nothing like spectating a game in the actual game while text chatting with other spectators and watching whoever you want in first person mode or where the action is. In addition it would be nice if casters were allowed to join and the only one's allowed to use voice chat and give notifications of where the action is. Perhaps follow their point of view or follow your own. It would be great.

It would be totally awesome..!!! Seeing some FPS Railgun action was pretty sweet.

Would be nice if eventually they get a HLTV type solution implemented, or at the least server side demo support.
