Flame Thrower Secondary Ability - Blast

I was thinking about the effectiveness of the flamethrower and how it can a marine survive when under pressure by a fade or other attack. Sure the flamethrower reduces their power ability but the marine is still very vulnerable.

Perhaps the flamethrower could have a secondary ability where it blows out in a single burst and does varying levels of damage depending on proximity. The burst forces back any aliens in the line of sight, giving a short period of time to retreat or manuever.

To reduce its effectiveness this blast could reduce the amount of ammo by a half or a quarter of a tank.

Thoughts?

    Just like in TF2?, why not allow the flamthrower to spew its fuel on the ground and then a marine can light it on fire, would be useful for making a trap. Just a suggestion though.

    I haven't played TF2 in such a long time I completely forgot that you could do that.

    Also the trap idea wouldn't add anything the Flamethrower should be doing already, but for the fact that people want it since it is cool.

    I don't think the OP is talking about an airblast, more of an explosion. Lower range, knockback, with some damage.

    Thing with a trap is that it wouldn't accomplish very much. Fire really isn't very frightening in its current form. I like the idea the Balance Test has where the flamer is much more effective against structures, disabling their abilities.
