Strange Problem

Hey people,
i´ve got a new problem. I have not changed ns2 or steam. My issue started maybe with 247, dont know exactly if it was after downloading/installing the patch.

My issue is about that if i use "w" to move forward the game "remembers" longer that i holded the button "w". The result is that if i run longer that 10 seconds and i release the button my marine/skulk/gorge still moving forward for a few seconds. Strange is if i move e.g. as a lerk 1 min forward, he still flies forward for about maybe 10 seconds. The game is not unplayable but its annoying =(

The only thing i could try is to reinstall the game, which i will do, when i am at home again^^ So you maybe know this problem yet? I tried ns2 with 2 different internet connections, so its not the high ping or the connection itself.

Greetings

It could maybe be lag from the server, have you tried in explore mode or something? Also, does the same thing happen with any other key at all?

I think I had the same problem some time back and flicking some of the settings fixed it.

Since it happen, it happen on all servers. I will test in explore mode in a few seconds :D Edit: No issue in explore mode...so its a ping/server problem between me and the ns2 servers.

And i´ve got this problem - i think - only with the forward movement. Maybe this would happen with other keys like spacebar or fire too, but i dont use these more than 1-3 secs in a row^^.

Flicking which settings could fix this issue?

@marZ, sorry, what happened for me was solved by changing things like the resolution, so I think the problems are different... as mine seemed to be because of a terrible comp.

Mine would not be much better :D laptop with gtx540m,8gb ram, 2,2ghz quadcore. Resolution 1280x....
But the strange thing is thats this issue is new for me. i had it never before, only thing which was changed is eventually a new patch :/

A few months ago i had a issue where my laptop crashed after map change. I found out that this was a issue of the game itself and was fixed next patch. So i am hoping that my issue will be fixed to :D But seems that this is not a issue by many other people =(

This could be so many things, hehe.
Some info would help for analyzing.
Can you run r_stats 1 in the console and then take some pics when you continue moving forward without pressing?

I used to have a wireless keyboard that would do this when the batteries ran low. good times.

    "9 ms waiting for GPU"
    *reads laptop*
Ah.. now i see the culprit.

Could you please run a dxdiag?
Start > Run > type : dxdiag > save all information > upload it here.
Alternatively you can run "techsupport.exe" found in your NS2 install directory.

I have a feeling your laptop has a special issue of its own.

Also, if you wish to jump ahead /have the time: following these instructions, could you please post a screenshot of what profile looks like during those moments when you are moving without pressing anything?
    Thanks.

Can you please start NS2 and take a pic of the console (~ key) while you are at the menu? I have a feeling you aren't using your 540m GPU. (its a pretty low end card, anyhow)

As for profile shots, review those instructions again.
Notice how the shot you provided has the bottom right bar selected? I need you to take a picture of when your character is walking forward without any input... when this happens press the spacebar to pause the profiler.. then use the bracket keys [ and ] to select the vertical frames at the bottom that are best showing this situation occuring.. and then expand the horizontal purple bars on the left which BEST represent which yellow thread is responsible at the top of the screen. (Game thread is the top most purple bars, and render is further below) Expand the longest purple bars and THEN take the pic.

Any intel HD graphics is utter crap. But to minimize this, definately check for there most recent drivers if you do not have.

I had this issue when i first started the game in 2012. I attached the ns2.exe in nvidia system settings and selected the gtx540m. Before that i had 10fps with the integrated graphic card^^.

Hmm got a problem here, the buttons [ and ] doesnt work for me in that menu. Only "ü" is for moving a frame left, i tried rest of all buttons and none is for moving right^^ But anyway i try to take a pic

My last driver for gtx540m is from march, i downloaded new one from may but i think this is not the reason for my issue.

3 Screens from a same frame, where i was not giving input, but my character was moving. (Cant attach file by editing last post =( )

And i tried to get the same bug with biting. But he is not "over memorizing" the left mouse button, only the moving forward button...so there is no biting without input over time.

More crazy shit: I changed the settings from "wasd" to the arrow keys...with arrow keys 0% "over memorizing"...with "wasd" moving without input :/ So where the issue come from? There is no key double used or something like that.

Edit: It looks like my laptop got the issue, not ns2...i played grid 2 and on some maps i accelerate more than 20 secs and then in the following curve i cant brake cause he is still accelerating^^

But still the question, why is this happening?

Edit2: I tested a few other things....if i use an external keyboard, then i have no issue. So it has something to do with the laptop keyboard, this looks like it has nothing to do with ns2 in general, but if you could still help me would be great :D.
I checked that it is not a kind of mechanical issue. The button is released and moving instantly to its initial position and it is still sending the command "w" for a few seconds.

Good to hear it's not ns2, but really weird that its only wasd keys.. Hmm let me think on this

I didnt fix it yet, but i asked a friend of mine, which is IT expert. He said i should change the keyboard, cause an external keyboard works. So it is not a driver issue.

In addition i removed the keyboard and checked if there is something under the button. A little bit of dirt and finally it didnt change the issue.

Also i founded with google a few threads with the same issue, but these guys didnt find a solution =(

Thanks for your attempts to help to fix my issue anyway. See you in the readyroom!

i had a similar problem which i fixed by taking out my laptop keyboard and washing it in the kitchen sink
then drying it off over the heater for a few hours
i wouldnt recommend this if you care at all about it potentially not working anymore

As i said i asked a IT expert. There is only one keyboard driver, if you plug in an external keyboard, then it is only allocating the right port. Cause i have no issue with external keyboard, the driver cant be the issue.

A funny new fact is that i got this issue only if my laptop getting warm. First 5 minutes of ns2 is no issue. Then after it getting more intense.

I will not wash it in the sink, cause i have still the garanty of my laptop(by dell). I will call dell on monday now, was not playing last week, so i hadnt to fix the issue.

Aye, if its in warrenty dont bother and call them.
Just tell them your external keyboard works fine, but your internal one does not and they will talk you through from there.
