I would definitely donate an hour a week to training people, as soon as I get trained up myself. I like teaching people a lot. I would probobly enjoy it more than playing the games. Well, maybe not that far. But it would still be at least as fun. As long as the people were nice. Course, if someone came in talking in leet speak and asked me what the equivalent of the AWP was in NS, I mightb e tempted to "accidentally" mis-teach them. Anything I can provide for the mod though, just call on me.
hehe, i can see it now: "wheres the kevlar?" "how do i plant the bomb?" "That terrorist has claws!" "D00d wh3r3 c4n 1 g37 7h3 1337 h4xxs?" "HACKER HES ON THE WALL WITH AN ALIEN HACKER HACKER HACKER" "This is stupid i want an AWP"
dood..That would be so Fun! <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
heh..N00b,stand here!
N00b: WTF?
You just got eaten by an Alien. See that red stuff? That's your blood.
Nah, but, Seriously, Flayra, I wanna be a Trainer! I'm a quick learner, so I should be able to start soon after NS is released to the Public, and I'm a pretty good Trainer...
If anyone's ever been on AOL and Roleplayed in a game called "rhydin", That's aol's stolen version of a game me and twenty other people started there known as "Rhy'Din", unfortunetly, didn't get it copyrighted in time...and now it's a cesspool of it's former glory. But I still train people to roleplay every so often..It's easy to train people about a game when you can actually have them run around in "Mock Battles".
Well flayra, count me in on the list of peple who wouldn't mind volunteering some time for helping newbies. Hey didn't I already say this in another topic? Wheew.... getting old high, getting old...
i sure would help someone with training, especially if there are aliens out there, its a team game, of course i would <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
Flayra: well , if all else fails one could always make a list of trainingservers ip,location,and what time it is up (if it is not a trainingserver _all_ the time) on the downloads page
And about the trainer being able to do things others won't just do like in gloom (well not exactly , but you get the idea) the servers have an adminpassword flag and if the correct password is given (it's set in the .cfg or entered in console as a regular serverpassword) he gets all sorts of nifty commands such as: being able to veto the votes , pause the game , build structures , push people/structures destroy structures , unbanning people etc. etc.
OR just make all the commands serversida and give the trainers rcon to their designated server(s)
plah , wish i could help you code flayra , but i'm way to st00pid and , frankly , lazy <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->
I just hope I dont get angry,sometimes when people are told one thing soo menny times and they dont listen make me angry.I take a loght of it at home and it just makes me angry now.
Then, I'm sorry to say, you wouldn't make a very good trainer. To be a trainer you have to be calm, understanding, and have a good check on your anger. N00bies ask a lot of stupid questions, but you have to realize that we were all n00bies once and we just need to give them the chance we never got. <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
pffft jedisar...speak for yourself , i only ask intelligent questions like: "OMG hwo du ai kill teh cmander ?? cuz he r not giving me any l337 h4xx0r w34aponz of d34th!!!!111 and were iz da tankz , kthxbi"
you know , stuff like that , i think you could learn a lot from me jedisar <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->
/me looks at totally meaningless post <!--emo&:0--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'><!--endemo--> ok time to sleep
no but seriously , i don't think ppl with uncontrollable anger should be Trainers , nor do i think they should have access to nukes , but hey , it's an imperfect world right? also , maybe (unless shortage on ppl) mappers/etc. shouldn't be trainers for 2 reasons... 1: they allready contribute for pete's sake , leave the training to us with no other skills than playing ;P and 2:Shouldn't they be busy with mapping/other ? (plus actually playing the game will consume their time methinks ^_^)
Actually, I think they may be using people who seem to know a lot about the game or who learn it fast as trainers, as well as some of the staff. <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
/me pokes Flayra
However, the Big Man's voice WOULD be heard, if he would merely speak.

I think by the time NS is released publically, the mappers will be the ones with the most experience, and will be essential in training. Besides that, they will be the ones with the most love for NS when all is said and done. Sure, we're all going to love the game, and perhaps many of us will play it until it is no more, but the mappers put a lot of time into mapping, and the fruits of their labor will always remain with the mod.
This shouldn't be a rush for NS brownie points so much as accomplishing the goal of the project, which is to mold newcomers into hardcore, killing machines... or commanders. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Actualy I ment to say if the person kept asking more than 3 times in a roll.Spamming or just ignoreing me,that will make me angry.But asking the same question after a good amout of time I can see it happening. Now do you se what I mean? heh

Jedi: It may be a bit outdated and including mod specific commands, but I have always used <a href="http://half-life.gamehelp.com/console/server.html" target="_blank">I.Am.Half-Life</a> for all of my commands.
As for mappers being the ones with the most experience, I think that anyone who has contributed to the mod or its community has almost the same knowledge of the gameplay involved. Maybe the mappers will know map-specific tactics, but anything more than that has already been second-guessed by everyone else.
On ONE condition.... I get a special drill instructer model <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo--> yeah I would.
yep, that is cool for these training servers... but i think in the first place its better to have some NS servers up and running then training servers... if there are enough then training servers might be good..
I agree better to have a few servers running "normal" NS, then when the mods gets popular the team can start adding n00b servers, if they really are needed, best way to learn the game is just playing it, since the team is trying to keep all very n00b friendly I don't think there will be needed many (if none) trainingservers.
Noob: Am I doing it correctly? Me: No, it's all wrong *Noob was slain by The_Butcher's wrath*
Just joking. However I'll have to stop calling them n00bs...
And I would have to remember not to do this:
Me: Now that you've learnt basic gun handling, we'll get to something more difficult. Use your knife and go kill this alien, on the other side of this of this door. Newbie: ok, but is it hard? Me: No... it's a small alien, a level 5... You should be ok.
I'd love to train people. I'm relatively free for time on all days except two of this week... Karate training, and sometimes I get swamped with homework. But, I'll do it willingly. I think training a n00b to be better than I am, is like being a parent. Or something. Maybe I'm getting to mature for my age... But, I learn real fast. And I'm a relatively calm person. (Disregard all comments about strapping a nuke to myself and running in to the middle of a hive) So, hey, if you need a trainer, then just gimme a call. Or IM. Whatever.
send the noobs this way... <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

/me wonder if it really would be that fun...
"Umm.. they're aliens. That just means there's an alien nearby that can see you. It's part of the game."

Unfortunetly, I don't know the one to ban.
Wish there was a list of Half Life Server Commands.
