For the sound loop crash I lowered my AGP setting in the bios from 4x to 2x and it never crashed again.

Please don't start rumors. Also, don't even try to blackmail the ns team into 'making one more update' by warning them that they will become a bad mod if they don't.

Oh and FYI, the NS team are currently working on v1.04, which if you were wondering, will be out when it's done.

I've noticed acpi causing lockup problems for people running 2k/xp, try a clean install with it disabled. Other things to look at, especially if other games are crashing "once in a blue moon" as someone put it is your bios, try reducing your ram timings, changing aperture size, disable unnecessary devices. Check your device manager for conflicts, do some research on your hardware and find out if other people are having similar problems. I remember all the whining that was going on at the infogrames forums with ut2k3 demo and the full release, most people's systems were just unstable. Bios flash perhaps? Compatablity problems, inadequate psu's, the list goes on

silly things such as the win2k ms patch for amd cpu's could be causing lockups... <a href='http://www.amd.com/Agreement_Handler/1,,871_2367_116,00.html?redirectURL=%2Fgb%2Duk%2FProcessors%2FTechnicalResources%2F0%2C%2C30%5F182%5F871%5F2367%2C00%2Ehtml' target='_blank'>http://www.amd.com/Agreement_Handler/1,,87...367%2C00%2Ehtml</a>.

I never had any problems with any of my games because I know my system is stable. Obviously quirky things like dark monitor's with certain drivers are to be expected, this is STILL BETA after all!

    98se - conflicting irq's?

Don't just tell developer's to fix it, YOU fix it, do some research on your system, have a look at your motherboard manual, read reviews about your hardware.

go to <a href='http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com' target='_blank'>http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com</a> and download anything that could potentially help resolve issues you might be experiencing and possibly don't even know about

If all else fails it's time for some trial and error with drivers/bios revisions. Do you have a faulty stick of ram perhaps!

The only problem I had was the dark monitor, I corrected that with powerstrip temporarily, although not an ideal solution, finally I swapped over to the 40.72's and haven't even needed to fire it up since.

I've been reading this - and I seem to have everyones symptons put together. This bug has only happened after NS was installed, and I've re-intalled HL multiple times and it still only happens when NS is installed. It will happen in *any* mod - I will quite simly just freeze. My computer will completely stop responding, and I will be left frozen at the last frame, everything still in place. An odd sound always comes out of my speakers - kind of like a record scratching.

What's very odd however, is the timing. It's not my imagination, I actually kept a log. I went an entire *month* with no problems. And then I had a period of 36 hours with 14 crashes....some preceded by >1 hour of gameplay and others <1 minute.

    I seem to have everyones crashing symptons + some more - the working fixes. <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->

[I]Update: Whoops, what I forgot is that I do NOT have cards that everyone is discussing. I have an onboard AC or whatever they're called on a K7 mobo.

I dont think that this problem is Creative related. I first had an Advance onboard soundchip and it crashed every 15 minutes. <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> . I now have an Audigy card and it still crashes <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> (And yes i disabled the onboard card).

PS. im not sure if im the only1 with this problem but sometimes midgame instead of crashing my pc reboots without warning

if you have win xp and experience the sound loop crashes, try playing the game in compatibility mode (windows 98/me)

it fixed my game, could fix yours too <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

right-click on NS's shortcut, select properties, compatibility should be one of the tabs

I just read all the posts, one things for sure... Almost everyone has a Creative! Sound Card.
Another thing is Almost everyone seems to be using a Geforce.

I used to run Natural Selection forever, it wasn't until I messed with some Display
Settings in BSPlayer and Added a new 120 Gig Hard Drive till I started getting the freeze.
I thought for the longest time I was the only one getting it. I have met several people
getting the error just recently. I would imagine it's a bug conflicting with the sound card
since everytime I freeze I get the last sound I hear being looped forever until I Alt-tab
out and Windows automatically shuts down the game. I uninstalled Natural-Selection.
That didn't work, I uninstalled Half-Life. That didn't work. Finally I just said I love this
mod too much and Reformated my computer. Suffice to say I am royally screwed, I lost
all my Software and Programs and I still only get to play the best Mod out there for
5mins to 2 hours because of the freezing.

    Computer spec's:
    Dell
    1 GHz
    512 SD RAM
    SB Live! Wave Player
    Geforce 4 Ti 4400

I tried the Compatibility fix last night, I updated all my drivers video, sound etc.. One guy said he had a bad stick of RAM and he removed and it worked. I recall removing a RAM stick from my computer and ever since I took it out I've had the crash. I decided to put the RAM back in. I thought it was fixed, Sure enough . Blam.. Frozen. I removed the RAM I had in before and just used the new RAM I had. I played problem free for 3 hours. I thought it was fixed. 30 Minutes into the next day , CRASH! I ran Compatibility mode, I turned my 3d sound Acceleration down. Yet - I still crash. I heard typing "nosound" in console helps, but it only seems to slow it down at random times. All I have to say is, this is one nasty **** bug. Hope someone figures out the fix soon ;(

My ns works fine for all practical purposes, but it will freeze at these two times:

    1) I try hitting escape to go back to the main menu while in a game or connecting

    2) If I try connecting to a game through the usual internet games list, and the connection fails, instead of getting kicked back to the selection menu it freezes

Its not a huge problem, i got windows 2k pro and i can ctrl-alt-del and kill the program and start it up with no problem, its just an annoyance.

this is the what happens to me...ill start up ns...deedeedoo...going along...until i try to join a server...my screen will go black....then a few seconds later...the ns "starting network" screen will show up...only one problem...it takes up half the screen and is in wird colors like purple and green...then my comp freezes up for eternity...and i have to shutdown...any one else?

i also get a crash when pressing Escape. i sometimes get crap sound at some point during a game (not too often) and want to exit to menu then rejoin as i used to but since i updated my system it now blacks out the screen forcing me to restart my system. the only way of sorting the sound then is by exiting through console.
    any ideas?

after months and months ive finally solved my crash problem. i tried lowering agp to 2x, messing with video, reinstalling halflife, multiple drivers... and then i realized it must be a sound problem because the sound stutters and repeats then it crashes to desktop.

i have a sb live!, i simply disabled it in device manager and used my onboard sound and have not had a crash since. so chances are, if it crashes with your sound repeating like that, it is your sound card, hopefully youre lucky enough to have some kind of alternative.

i think this could be a problem with creative cards. i was crashing a lot in dod 1.0 as well, but this has fixed that problem also.

I like to comment on that. i first had an onboard sound system, i believe it was the a97 something card that comes with an MSI MB. it crashed all the time. then i was so <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> of that i bought an Audigy card to see if it would "solve" the crashing problem. but it didnt solve anything <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> . i really dont know if it is an software or hardware problem.

This is a known problem with the ATI Catalyst v3.2 drivers. Get the new v3.4 drivers.
