    If you get in a tussle, make your mask take in water that pools on the bottom and sloshes around as you move. Let too much water in and starts to obscure your vision. The player could easily purge it, but it would take a few seconds -- and you may not have that if you are being attacked by a giant sand shark.

    Massive lifeforms that you can go inside and explore. Inside are a multitude of completely different lifeforms that live symbiotically with their host, protecting, cleaning, and reproducing.

    When I say this, I tend to think of the huge slug (exogorth) that Han accidentally flies into during one of the Star Wars movies. However, it can be much more complex than this. Perhaps the protectors are irritated when you try to move about inside their host. However, if you coat yourself with the goo from one of its parasites, they would stop attacking you for a while.

    There better be things bigger relative to me than a Colossus. If you make a game about the ocean and there aren't some impossibly huge creatures that could never exist if they had to support their own body weight, you aren't doing it right. :)

    Just thought that I'd like to see drones.

    Drones for harvesting resources so that you can drop them off somewhere, continue exploring, then come back and profit!

    Let the drones be vulnerable to nearby sealife so you cant go too far and have more advanced drones with self defense systems! (sonic/electric pulse, evasive jets etc.)

    Also good for following you around when you only have a dive suit as an expanded inventory/extra defense!

    Just to clarify, since this game is on unity, it will naturally be highly moddable correct?

    I would love to see mods in this game.

    I would love to see some HUGE aliens underwater in the deep regions.

    I know i usually shit my pants when it comes to underwater monsters, so it would be awesome to swim around, explore a bit and then in the distance, barely visible you see like a big predator, who thinks you are the next meal on his list.
    Inactive Creatures that camoflage would be great aswell. Just swimming around and seeing a cool looking rock and suddenly that rock gets up and shows some teeth.

    Those creatures would have to be kind of rare and a danger over all, not just for you swimming around, but also in your submarine :D

    What I would like to see? Hmm, a couple things.
    First, two words: Living Submarine
    It would be awesome if you were able to watch another creature carry you around within it, especially with the 'transparency' traits that have been worked on. (Even if there's little chance you'll be released again peacefully. As long as you're still living, even if death is inevitable, you shouldn't have to be forced to restart until that 'death' occurs.) And as another poster alluded to, if one of the main draws of this game is to be able to watch biology in action, not all biology is external.

    Second: Creature Mode
    Almost all exploration and RPG games I've seen have you take on the character of someone either human or very humanoid. One thing that could potentially set this game apart from those is if you allowed us in one mode to actually 'be' an alien creature, with its own unique biological traits, behaviors, and needs, and let us help it grow, develop, and survive. Perhaps different creatures could be unlocked through achievements in the main story mode. After all, many people believe that the best thing about Spore, for instance, was the very first Cell level, and this game from what I've seen has the potential for far greater immersion into a complex biological environment.

    We should have terraria-like glowing mushroom biomes or something.

    Semi-destructible terrain too please (ie, only certain materials).

    @coolitic :

    In the subject Permanence Brainstorm They said that :
    - Being able to dig tunnels into the terrain with the drill-arm of your exosuit. You could alter the appearance of the landscape or connect caves together.

    - Being able to pull the DNA out of one creature and inject it into another creature, giving it the ability to glow, increasing its size, or making it more or less friendly. You can also do this on yourself, giving you new permanent characteristics (changing your vision mode, making your skin glow, etc.).
    - Being able to make an entire race of creatures extinct.
    - Being able to take a race of creatures from near-extinction to abundance, through careful stewarding of eggs on your sub, then releasing the newborns back into a safe environment.

    Available for all wildlife i suppose.

    For mushrooms look their art :

    I hope i could search R'lyeh in Subnautica and try to not wake up Cthlhu.

    -Creatures that light up darkness I.E anglerfish
    - A type of creature that spews ink to get away from predators (or the player) I.E squid.

    Yo.
    So i've been playing alot of project zomboid lately (much fun)
    Particularly sandbox mode.

    ... now one of the unique parts of sandbox mode is that when i die.. the world i was in, persists. So i would just create a new character, and waltz my way to my old safehouse, pick up my shotgun and fireaxe and continue rampaging against the Shambling dead.

    ..Does subnautica plan to have something similar (not the zombies) If... death is implemented, that is.

    I would love to find a previous attempt at exploring the deep alien seas, all wrecked and ruined.. or just abandoned, if i died in my scubasuit, thingy.

    Wait a minute.

    If Firaxis is allowed to have Firaxite as a resource in their games,
    shouldn´t we be technically allowed to use "Uwerium" for our nuclear warheads and bomb them out ?

    War has been declared !
    For Goats sake.

    I would like to see exploration of the physics and dynamics of moving vehicles around underwater, especially large ones. Some early Subnautica prototypes* experimented with very rudimentary nods to the idea that WASD/Mouse might not be the only way of controlling larger vehicles. I hope we can explore this more in future. We have an opportunity to delight players with non-traditional, unexpected, and potentially very rewarding control schemes and physical behavior, as there are so few games that involve large vehicles moving through liquid.

    *These prototypes might be public very soon!
  • LudwigXLudwigX Join Date: 2013-05-23 Member: 185351Members
    I think that controlling large underwater vehicles with WASD and mouse is rather complicated. They also need a very long way to come to a complete stop.
    I think you should add a navigation system that controls the ships movement. At least for areas that are already explored.
    The player could do other things on the sub: Eat, sleep, research, craft.

    With larger vessels in mind:
    I would like to see crew members onboard larger subs. It would be best if you'd be able to train them, or even send them out with own smaller vessels

    Some advanced physics/science. (examples below)

    Rocks will melt at certain temperature (if we decide to do semi-destructible terrain), realistic electromagnetic pulses from certain creatures (with special shielding that reduces some of it), etc.

    Also, perhaps strange artifacts/underwater structures. Would depend where you send the game's lore.

    I would love to "see" a great mining and crafting system with building large stuff - like submarine rooms or consoles, taking multiple stages and time, kinda like in Space Engineers, where you have to have all the sub-components seperately, or your construction will only get to a certain point. Its a game that I think does the construction part quite well, (and being able to break down stuff you dont want to salvage the bits!) its just a pity that space is generally so damn boring if you arent on a multiplayer server!

    I agree, looking at games like Minecraft for instance, that arent about combat/shooting, the experience of interacting with the world and creating something is enhanced hugely by involving friends in the experience. If you had integrated voice chat you could have someone out mining resources and dropping them back to the base/mothership, whilst the other person is using said resources to repair/extend/maintain the ship/base, whilst you can chat over the comm link.

    Anno2070 is my zen building game... right up until i get bloody annoyed that im just balancing production ratios and rage quit. (Usually just as i get to needing the 3rd level populations).

    In that game I love:
    * pretty
    * slow paced
    * I love the community part (voting, global missions that need lots of people to complete for the bonus) even though i only play single player (it makes the world feel alive to know other people are doing the challenge missions and voting)

    Things I hate:
    * boring production gameplay (eventually.. i actually like the starting bits but once i need to make 3 new things for the next level of people.. well bugger that)

    I guess things im dreaming of for subnautica:

    * exploring a very pretty ocean
    * collecting building materials (placing auto miners? geothermal generators? oxygen extractors? maybe need these things to explore out further from base?)
    * collecting biological samples (... for... err.. trading? reengineering?)
    * variety of missions (not just collect 5, kill/capture 9 etc)
    * submarine construction/upgrades and pimp my boat... dayglow orange sub for me!!!
    * build and expand underwater base (or network of bases)
    * maybe crew management? (ohh, i'll hire that marine biologist (+1 sample storage time) and the engineer (+10% speed) for the sub and put the sub-designer (-10% design time) and genetic specialist (-10% dna extraction) in the base)
    * some unfolding story
    * ability to play at any pace
    * big world feel

    Id be dissapointed if it was a single play through story and not something i could just tool around in forever as my zen underwater garden.

    Stuff that would make me explode with happy joy joy:

    * coop (later is fine, but pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese!!)
    * random map generator (yes, i know you are not intending to do this)
    * expanding global map
    * global events
    * some kind of random story 'director' or ai

    Global events:
    * main starport oxygen extractor failure, all players need to trade 100000 oxygen units to starport to finish mission and gain reward of -1 oxygen price for 1 month
    * plague impacts food seaweed, we need to collect 4000 samples of 'bubble weed' to extract immunity and stabilise food supply and gain 50% discount on food extractor in base).
    * find crashed microsub within 10 hours. crash is about 3000m northnortheast of base, you will hear the rescue beacon when within 200 meters of the crashed sub. reward can hire character xyz for only $200.

    I would expect for the kind of casual play that seems to be desired that dont *have* to do these missions but if they do they get some reward.

    Expanding global map:
    By this i mean some way to expand the 'world' as you go (ie, not just stuck with the single manually crafted map).

    Maybe start with the initial map area but have the ability to 'bless' community maps to attach to the 4 sides of that base map. Then as modders submit maps and ideas, clean them up, 'bless' them as official and expand the game world. Then attach more maps to those blessed ones.

    Like the zombie game rebuild, once you finish a map you can select some people from your community, give them some stuff and then send them onto the next map. So for subnautica, build a sub (put a limit of say 1 cargo module on it or have a pre-designed explorer sub) load up some goodies and crew, pick a new area from the 'global' map and *boom*, it spawns in the new map.

    Story AI
    Most mmo type games (yeah, i know, grind) have an objective (pass/fail) and then a reward.

    The 'director' for l4d looks at the gameplay and spawns waves to make it exciting and match the players play style.

    Ive often thought that it should be pretty easy to make a story director AI for random missions with tasks having some impact on the next story step (if passed or failed), for example:

    * "strange fish detected - capture 3 bio-snakes in 5 hours" ... pass=new mission... fail population explosion
    * "bio-snake population explodes.. new fish blocks farming intakes.. cull 20 bio snakes to return operation of farmer units" ... pass (no fail option) = new mission

    * "find blackwater sub with unique angel fish DNA" pass=reward $5000+new mission, failure "intercept"
    * "intercept blackwater sub before it gets to transport tube" - pass=$2000+"research boat", fail "get to starport"
    * "research boat for blackwater spotted in NewVegas Sound... stealth approach and place tracker on ship" - pass $1000+new mission, fail="escape"
    * "escape blackwater hunter subs" - pass=$1000+new mission, fail=need to play $1000 ransom+new mission
    * "get to starport in 5 hours to block blackwater from leaving planet" - pass=$1000+new mission, fail 'angel fish prices drop from off planet cloning'+new mission

    So what we have here is a set of the usual mmo type missions (collect, goto, interact with etc) but if you have a director AI generating them in a logical tree (ie, 'escape' follows a failed 'stealth' mission, or 'intercept' follows a failed 'find' mission) to build a logical story out of these same common mission blocks.

    I used to play a lot of the MMO City of Heroes and the random missions were cool, but there was no consequence of failing or passing a mission. A 'meta-story' AI should be able to make a narrative and even do things like build enemy/friend with different organisations (or have missions where you pick one side over the other).

    Brain mush now... text long... blerg.

    Maybe it still wont be the focus of the game, but can we have just a few large, gigantic aquatic creatures that defend something and to get past them you must fight it by dropping rocks, making them charge into lava, etc.? Please, I need at least some action (awesome boss fights are what I love the most, hence why I love metroid prime trilogy).

    That quite literally sounds like the exact opposite of what I want from this game. Boss fights would be about as out of place as a racing or turret section, I mean for gods sake, this is neither Call of Codfish, nor Darterfish souls, or any other game like that. It is, if anything, a game about exploration and survival. Basically, devs, please do not get distracted by overly gamey concepts like this.

    Its really hard to say what we want when we really dont know the direction the devs want to take it, but I know what I definitely want is a comfy game I can stay in for a long time and explore/study/build.
