Does it have a... naturally grown gas mask?

And wasn't there an enemy type in Sanctum called Gasopod? ô.o

The concept art looks more gas-masky than the final version (last pic). The headplate is less defined and the snout now has two nostrils, rather than that round socket-looking thing, which makes it look more biological. I'm hoping there will be some animation to extend the snout a few feet down (into holes?) when feeding.

It could be a cloud of spors which will stick to your equipment when you swimm trough it. When you are back in your submarine, the spores get suck up in the ventilation system and start infesting it with some kind of goo. When the submarine is almost completely overgrow by the goo, some Gasopod will come and lay there eggs in it.
