How in gods name do u kill those things?
Ok, I may sound like an idiot for bringing this up, but what is the best way to kill an Onos? It seems that once aliens get the ability to build Onos, they are completely invincible. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Focus fire is the only viable solution i can give you. Go for quick damage first. Pistol, empty the clip, then go your primary and focus fire, then take out your knife, i dont suggest reloading.

With 2 other or so teammates doing this, 3 vanilla marines can kill an onos pretty quickly.

    The key is teamwork.

I guess focus fire would be the trick; only problem is that you have to dodge bile bombs at the same time...

Strafe left or right, never back or forward. And focus fire.

really, the only thing you can do is unload your ammo into it and pray it dies before you do.

if you see an Onos, the game is practically over anyway.

Shotguns are a good way... the trick is just to survive long enough to empty the damn thing into him. If you're at close range (and not dead) he goes down inside of those first 10 shells.

The problem, of course, lies in encountering an onos in a non-viable situation.

I've dropped em from vents and tight spaces a lot

Focusing fire is by far the best way. Had an onos rush me and three teammates in a tight pipe once... and it died before it got to us. Why? We all just unloaded LMGs on it, and frankly, NOTHING survives 2000 points of damage (except a hive )

Shotguns are nice for onos, as you get that nice relaxing moment between shots to actually aim again, and they're so big nearly all the pellets will hit at most any range. It's burst-style damage also means the onos doesn't always realize it's time to run, becuase there's no constant drain to time it by. If the alien's have onos, you're screwed, but if you can get a shotty or two focused on it, you can at least make the alien's win HURT.

The Knife does the most damage against Ohnos, it only takes a few quick swipes to bring them down. The best tactic to use is the "Ohnos Rodeo Spectacular", jump on their backs and slash at the dreads, you get the most damage this way. I've seen countless Ohnos fall to the mighty blade of a brave cowboy.

These things once made the aliens victory prolonged for about 15 minutes:
The map was.. eh.. the one with Gargo Bay Feve or something, and we heard an onos coming (RAWR) but at the entrance of our base was 3 turrets positioned (luckily) so that the onos couldn't get thru (he didn't realize he could've duck-jumped over), and so the onos got stuck and died in 15 seconds

There was MORE onoses coming, there came another one from the other entrance but we, marines, were lucky enough to have few spare hmg's but no resources anymore so we took out about 3 onoses with our "Let's not let them have an easy victory"-attitude.

Then, there was an onos who came thru the triple turrets I told you earlier about, but he (probably was the same guy) didn't get stuck, but got hurt badly and ran away. I remembered me good ol' welder and ran after him, burning his fat arse, and it died in 10 seconds (onoses are sooo slow.. luckily..). Too bad there was about 5 fades welcoming me and I died in acid rockets within a blink of they eye, get it?

So, well placed turrets, attitude and welder can kill onoses pretty easily for minutes

Why not shove a hundred cc's in front of the doorways (I am exagerating, of course 20 should do well =D). Build them and then you have a great spikes/bile/spore/onos blocker. Works fine. Just make sure you repair them every second.. those aliens do some heavy damage.. of course so do grenade launchers and hmgs.

When people get Onos they get cocky.

I was on NS_Tanith the other day. It was late on in the game, the marine team was tiny (3 people including myself), and we were hurting badly.

A single Onos kept charging into the base, killing everyone and dashing out again to heal.

And then he said "These things taste like chicken."

I dont know why, but that got me so riled that I dropped a shotgun, jumped out of the comm chair and the next time he came through the door, unloaded it on his backside.

Managed to drop him before a Fade came in and got me. I bet that didnt taste like chicken.

Jetpacks + Concentrated gun fire = downed Onos

If you're lucky, you may have something in a map that can help if one is chasing you. Like jumping over a bit or on the edge of something so that the Onos has to jump up on it. I did it before, but I was a skulk vs. a marine. Marine tried to adjust his position for a shot at me, but fell lol.

Jetpacks+marines=just as useless as marines without JPs.
Paralyze. You fly, but get shot down, falling for damage, and from there, the onos swipes you once or twice and you are dead. 9 RUs wasted.

Actually, if grens hold the way the are in the current(1.04b) patch, then get 1 guy with gren, sit him at the back, get 1 guy with LMG LA.

Have the LMG LA rush the oonos(and die).

While this is happening, dump all 4 grens RIGHT into the onos(damn big target, u can hardly miss) - 200 x 4 = 800 damage!!!! More than enuf to take an onos! (plus with lvl 3 weps, it does 260 x 4 = 1040, so more chance to kill if you miss one gren)

Otherwise, just get 3 HMG dudes to focus fire, one from left, one from right and one from centre, the onos will fall QUICKLY.

Even LMGs work, thou it is beter to have 4+ focus on the onos

Not hard tbh, one game I took down about 6 onoii by myself, due to 2 things

    1) my 1337 JP + HMG skillz
    2) (more of the real reason) the onoii were spastic and could phathom the use of paralyse on me ( when I finally died, I fell and died due to paralyse )

Jetpacks do work against onos if you use them to get up on a higher ledge than the onos can reach. Then even when you land (due to paralyze), he can't charge or gore you, just continually paralyze. The broken catwalk right outside the marine base on tanith is a good example. You'll still die to paralyze, slowly but surely, but it gives you quite awhile to empty your gun.

Quite frankly, my favorite way (and several people already beat me to it) is.....

There are two easy ways to kill an onos:

1.) Several marines focusing HMG/Grenade fire on it (If you dont have heavy armor and HMGs, dont even try cause your screwed without them at this point)

2.) This is my personal favorite. A *VERY* brave marine with a jetpack and a shotgun. The reason this is my favorite is because people who play onos mostly think they are invulnerable (Which isnt true unless cheats are enabled ) and they normally will ignore a sole marine if he doesnt have an HMG and continue to trash the base.

A smart onos will run at you. At this point, jump and pray you land on him and not infront of him (An experenced marine can do this easily, with a little controled jumping) if you get on him, stay on him, cause if you dont, your dead. Once he starts flailing around, you have to work quick, use your jet to stay on top of him, unload with the shotgun, unload your pistol clip (AS IN FIRE THEM!!!!!! Had to put that in... someone stupid will post and say that reloading thier gun didnt work, and then i would get rather angry) If he still isnt dead, reload the shotgun, get in the air, AND STAY BEHIND/ABOVE HIM! Fire after you get two shells in the gun, and if the commander upgraded right, it should die. If not, to put it bluntly, your *not a word for the kiddies*

BTW, i am thinking of holding an anual onos rodeo, anyone intrested?

Before they reduced the welder damage, I got a few kills on onos by hiding behind a corner in the main base with my welder out, waiting for him to charge in and start eating a turret, and sneak up behind him and literally weld his **** shut.

The best way for a team to kill Onos is for the comm to plan for it in the beginning of the game. If he builds the buildings in a manner that will persuade the Onos to get stuck, he's done for. Basically, put all the heavy-duty buildings on the sides of a little trench going through your base. A few turrets can be in there. if an onos comes in, he'll get stuck on the heavy buildings, in the middle of the base -- perfect for concentrated fire. PS: Don't put the spawn portals next to each other -- place them at opposite sides of the base.

I see most Onos deaths to concentrated fire; LMG, HMG and hopefully turrets. In NS_Eclipse I found a nice spot in the marine base, on top of the res tower surrounded by the little rail. With an HMG I killed about 3-5 in a row with some help from a couple of LMG guys further back and those lovely turrets. If I remember rightly I died when the fades arrived =/

Sometimes if you crouch tightly into a corner, the onos can't get you.

The best way to kill onos is with knife. I have 7 confirmed onos knife kills so far, and the gigantic body count is still rising. They will will be served as raw onos steak in the end.

My fave Onos kill was carried out by me. Alone.

It was in Nancy-one of my first games ever. I was in HA/HMG and turning around the corner to an alien hive. All of a sudden, an Onos charged out, into the hallway! It was coming RIGHT for me!

Anybody playyed the game Serious Sam? Do that.

For those of you who don't get this reference, it means to circle-strafe your pretty @ss off. If he charges towards you, jump sideways (all the while full-autoing) and continue to jump around in circles. The important thing to remember is to keep moving. After two full clips (the Onos blundered into the wall every time I jumped aside from his charges), he fell down to the ground! In my defiance, I began knifing his hulking dead body. Needless to say, a single skulk came out and 0wned me......

I would say the jetpack method is the most useful. Basically, if you're in the air, you are safe (unless the onos knows how to use paralyse, but most don't). Another good way to kill an onos is with a knife. See that onos rampaging inside your base? He thinks he's invincible, and the last thing we would expect is a marine sneaking behind him with a knife. The knife kills pretty quickly, especially if you have a little turret support. Just keep behind the onos and you'll be fine.
