Case of the disappearing Solar Panels [Build 21960Feb-2016]

Not sure what exactly was causing this problem.. I had just began building my base in the Grassy Plateau Dropped 2 foundations and a 2 stacked multipurpose rooms... A hatch and threw a Fabricator on the wall... Put a solar panel on the foundation to provide some power Works great... In fact... 50 power points instead of the 25 I get when I build the Solar panels on the seabed..

Then the problems start...

I build a ladder to the second story MP Room.... Emergency Power only... 0/0

What the heck??? Go outside... Solar panel.. GONE!

Gather more materials... build another panel... Power Restored... 50/50

Go back into the Habitat... And decide I'm eventually gonna build a moon pool to one side of the main rooms so I throw a second hatch on the 1st level MP Room... EMERGENCY POWER ONLY... 0/0

HUH?!?!??!!?

Go outside... Solar panel is GONE again.... OK... That is annoying Build a 3rd solar panel on the foundation... it TOO goes poof when I add something to the base...

FINE! I start building the panels on the sea bed... 25/25 each and the DO NOT DISAPPEAR and I've built a bunch of additions to my base since then...

This is a particularly annoying bug...

I've got a ton of panels on my foundations/moonpool. No issues.

    Stable mode or experimental?
Have you tried attaching panels to other base components? (Roof of rooms, build another foundation and put the panels there, etc)

And yeah I tried also building the cells on the roof of the MP room.. it was very weird... After I lost 3 or 4 panels I decided to stop wasting resources and take what I could get from the sea-bed mounted solar panels

same problem on experimental. lost two times 3 solar panel and bioreactor near the multipurpose room

This has happened to me as well on the stable release.
I've had solar panels on foundations disappear and an empty exterior planter go bye bye.

Happened to me as well. Deleted most of my Solar Panels as well as my Bioreactor when I fabricated a Moon Pool attached to my base. Docked my Seamoth and things went badly, had to undock. I think it drew all remaining power from the base. Sorry to be unclear on the sequence of events. Late at night-too tired to play but couldn't stop since I finally found the required Moon Pool Fragments.

I would like to chime in on this. It happens to me SPECIFICALLY when I put solar panels very close to the base of the Modular Room that is being modified on the outside. My guess is the Modular Room is 'clearing' the terrain around it like it does when you push it into the seabed on construction. The solar panels are being 'cleared' to make way for other things, I believe, even though they are NOT in the way, it clears a 360 area each time. I can confirm this bug.

I can confirm this problem too on build 31112 Apr-2016. From what I can see the OP has nailed it pretty well. Any time you modify a building, or a building attached to the one your solar panels are on, the game deletes the solar panels. It's particularly troublesome at night when you get no light and have to sit outside in your seamoth or bob on the surface for air until daytime.

I had it twice when I build my first habitat in the Oculus release. No more problems since then.

I've experienced this on stable twice.

First time I placed them on a foundation. Second time I placed them on top of an i corridor. Both times near a generic room.

    1. Dismantle Solar Panels temporarily.
    2. Make additions to base.
    3. Rebuild Solar Panels.
    4. Power!

(Yeah, this is a nasty one; had it happen to me, once, too)

That's a pain to do every time you want to change a simple thing if you have a lot of panels. Slightly less painful is to just make your changes then use "nocost" to rebuild them before turning it off afterwards.

I've found a good practice is to put my solar panels on a foundation all of their own until this particular bug is squashed. Just be sure when building anything that it doesn't overlap onto that foundation.
