Plot Idea: The Swarm

Alright, hear me out. I propose a plot based on a parasite infection of the planet. In my story line, the Aurora was destroyed because of the escape of a unclassified life form found in deep space on the way to explore the planet. The life form escaped while being studied, and infected several crew members. A fight aboard the Aurora ensues, and the infected crew and the life form are trapped in a section of the ship. The remaining crew decide to continue their mission, and arrive at the planet. Upon arrival, the infected crew break through into another section of the ship. This section is the armory, and the infected rampage in the armory, and accidentally set off the "Black Box" Antimatter generator. Normally, the Black Box is only used by the United Galaxy Military Planet Destruction Division, but it was included with this mission to destroy the planet if rival companies where found mining there. The antimatter tears apart a large portion of the ship, but because it's not being aimed or used properly, it destroys itself, along with about a quarter of the infected crew and around half of the non-infected crew. The ship then sits in a decaying orbit for a minute or two, and crashes into the planet, deploying the escape pods. Over 50 pods are deployed, but only one contains human life. The rest are full of the infected crew or empty, and luckily, most are burned up. Only one other pod besides your's survives, and lands in a deep ocean trench. It drifts around, full of infected crew and the life form. Eventually it finds it's way into the resting place of the sea emperor. The Emperor, startled awake by the pod, lashes out and breaks the pod open. The parasite-laden pod burst open, and it's contents rush forward, infecting the Sea Emperor. The parasite will infect the Emperor around day ten, and at about day twenty, infected animals will start to appear in deep biomes. Eventually, it works it's way to the surface. The player learns about it, and trys to create an way to destroy it. He/She/It learns about it through logs found on infected crew that will attack you in the night. After a long fight, the player finds The Emperor. The Emperor is not fully infected, but is being controlled. It is basically the Controller of the hive mind of all the other infected creatures. The player is then forced to decide between saving the Emperor and sacrificing themselves, destroying the emperor (but the parasite escapes), or destroying the planet and all traces of the swarm with it.

Also, because I think this game has enough potential, I think that the game should have multiple possible storylines. Not in the way you're thinking, but something like a chance system. Sometimes you will have one plot, involving a completely different aspect. Sometimes you have my plot. It should be random.

    Nothing but brilliant. Love it!

I do like the general idea of a parasite plot, or invasive species. Earlier today I had come across something I had noticed about the Emperor and Dragon. The Sea Dragon looks alot like the concept art for lava lizards. Sea Emperors look alot like a large bone shark. Perhaps the Leviathan's themselves are a virus/parasite that transforms these normal creatures into gods of their domain?

As for your second proposal that'd be a cool addition to any game, maybe you can have a check list of stories you want to have a chance to get, also opening a potential for people to create their own game modes and stories? It'd be cool knowing the game itself doesn't have a set story and anyone can say how the story goes.

Thanks for supporting my idea. The idea of a parasite that turns little lizards into the Sea Dragon is actually a really good idea. Thinking about it, Reapers aren't that different than stalkers. It would make sense to have the Reapers around the Aurora, because that would be the only other source for the parasite.

Sry but i don't like it... I seen to much of the same plot in games and movies... My idea would be human failure on board the Aurora or a meteor shower hit it, so it crash landed. The idea behind subnautica is "unknown worlds". The world we explore is not always nice but its harsh and dangerous with lots of animals that want to eat you. It doesn't need parasites to transform the fauna.

There are already parasitic creatures within subnautica, and parasites themselves are a common thing in nature as it is. These 'parasites' are really nothing more than a way to explain how things came to be on another world. With the arrival of life unknown to a new planet there would be diseases and if any species came along they'd begin to take over the enviroment (invasive species) that come with it, for example when the America's were discovered by Europe. It's a realistic idea and would be cool to have as a story idea.

I get the feeling you don't know what a 'Black Box' is.

That is what the games reffing to when it brings up a black box.

I didn't, but now I do. It sounds way cooler as an anti-matter generator though. I'll have to think of an new name. Thanks for correcting me, and technically it can still be called that. The chance that it would still be called the "Black Box" that far in the future is slim to none. Unless subnatica is set in the immediate future, I'd assume something like "Automatic Ship System Log" for what you've described.
