Emperor Mining Walker. I was thinking about ideas for another vehicle idea that is not huge but is no just a repeat of the cyclops and i came up with this: If you know a lot of star wars trivia you probably know what an at-te is (if you don't look it up.) it would not have a huge gun on top, and in the spots the smaller guns go there would be mining lasers or drones that would mine nearby resources and collect them in a room at the bottom of the walker. there would be 6 rooms: a engine room, driving room, storage room, entrance, laser control room(change the lasers power cells and such.) and a multi purpose room where you could possibly put a fish tank or a nuclear reactor even, or to just make a home. I think the tech should be precursor tech and that the only way to unlock it is a data download in the gun emplacement cargo bay. i think it would also be cool to find broken down one near their bases. what do you all think?

I think it is a terrible idea.
    1. Size: The Cyclops is pretty big, and immune to all damage already. I expect that the damage system simply isn't implemented yet, but it's still a very large vehicle. If anything bigger is added, it stretches suspension of disbelief TOO far.
    2. Weapons: They didn't add guns/lasers for a REASON. I find it a refreshing change to NOT fill everything full of lead/plasma for once.
    3. Balance: You didn't specify numbers, but I get the feeling you're not thinking about "how can this thing be useful, but not TOO useful so I don't get bored."
    4. Movement: Walking is slow and there's some places where that's REALLY not a good way to get around. Much less if you try and go down a hole with it. Prawn only works because the Cyclops can tug it around.

Something that is too good is just as bad as something that is worthless. Many people will get anything they can, and if that thing removes the challenge, they will get bored.

The size does not need to be that big i was thinking about the same size as the cyclops just it has more width. i also put that instead of lasers they could be drones, that go pick up mineral deposits only.

I like the idea of a walker of some sort, but not in this scale.

...About the size of a Prawn? Oh, and it needs jump jets to get out of holes. And maybe they can make drill arms, grappling arms, and a heavy projectile gun for it! ;)

I've toyed with various floating base ideas, but I can't really come up with anything large enough to be significant, without getting silly-large. And most importantly, within the constraints of the engine.

Walking vehicles don't really do anything much better than the Cyclops (which needs a scanner room and ROV itself...), but walking vehicles run into SIGNIFICANT terrain issues that the Cyclops simply doesn't face.

Go visit Blood Kelp, Grand Reef, Underwater Islands, for three biome examples. Imagine attempting to move a walker around there.

So, what you want is just a 4 legged PRAWN.

Well, since terraforming is removed, why not a drill-mech-thing? I don't know if you guys ever did much with legos, but as old as I am I can't force myself to stop collecting and building. But anyways, the Atlantis series would be great inspiration for this type of thing. Or even just the Mega Miner line.
Here, this one fits the bill.

Just replace the cannon with a drill, and have the arm on the other side. Then is turns into this. It'd need to be a big drill though.

No, your sarcasm detector just needs some tuning. I'm of the opinion that small subs are taken care of, and medium has Cyclops. Some sort of ROV based out of the Cyclops would be decent, though.

Anything larger would be even HARDER to pilot than the Cyclops, and it bangs into things often enough as-is.

Perhaps... have the player make a floating base? Then fill it up with resources, build some stuff, dock the Cyclops and whatever else in a dock/moonpool or two, and trundle off to a second map?
