what happened to?

IIRC i could use parts of various critters to augment my gear. now however the hoop fish is basically just food. kinda wondering if the "use biological resources to upgrade gear" is lost or if its going to come back?
I was kinda looking forward to being able to go fully native and not lean so much on the aurora tech.

there are still remnants of this in that the bladder fish can be used for flotation and the crash fish for flares but i am kinda feeling like I am not fully utilizing my resource base effectively.

my other question is how am i to use the magnesium and nickle and i believe a couple other materials i have found, that seem to be around but not used in any fashion. Or did i miss a base somewhere that has the blueprints to utilize these things?

Magnesium (crafted from salt) is used to make the repair tool (f/k/a welder)... and I think that's it. Nickel I believe is a new resource, and will probably get a purpose going forward.

Not sure when you could use parts of creatures to enhance your gear, but it was a looooong time ago if it was ever true.

I never really heard of that either.

Maybe he's talking about the concept...? Like how conceptually making an air bladder out of a bladderfish makes sense? I don't know, @ErnieW what were you talking about?

I'm curious too, since I never really heard anything like this. Closest that comes to it would be Stalker Teeth I guess?

Given the goal the game has though, I don't think this will be a thing. Unless they stick in more resources you can get non-lethaly like the Treader dung and stalker teeth.

Yeah the way he phrased that sounded a lot more like (wait for it :P) Monster Hunter than anything Subnautica ever had. Buuuuuut at the same time I wasn't around for the earliest forms of the game, so what would I know? Maybe back in the days where random generation was still a thing, they might have had plans for something like this but then dropped them? One of the Subnautica Veterans would have to enlighten me on that.

Yeah, I have no idea whats being referred here either. I've never seen anything like using hoopfish for anything other than food and havent seen any lets plays from older versions of the game. Alpha content maybe?

If I recall correctly, this was considered at a very early part in development, around the time they put Subnautica on Steam. However, this should be taken with a grain of salt, as I can barely remember what I had for breakfast.

Speaking of this, what ever happened to the transfuser? I remember you were able to spawn it in a long time ago, but haven't tried in the longest time. I loved the idea of augmenting myself or other creatures with random DNA.

The transfuser is currently in the v1.0/maybe list on trello. https://trello.com/c/Zs7VYHbv/37-transfuser

But they have been working on it a little as seen in this video on October 16th

Nope, looks like it's dev only for now.

it would be weird to use creatures in your gear but the devs are going more toward something like that since they changed rubber to creepvine seeds which doesn't make sense beacause in the tooltip (quartz) it says silicate in its crystaline form
