Reaper Leviathan in the Safe Shallows?

JerrilJerril Join Date: 2016-11-19 Member: 224074Members
After my first trip to the Aurora, and repairing the drive room, there is now a Reaper Leviathan in the "Safe" shallows lurking around my life pod. It keeps swimming through the terrain and then chasing after me, then returning to it's new home at my life pod.
Is this a broken tethering bug, or is this The New Normal and trying to push people into base building? Luckily I already have a base, but if I didn't it would be VERY hard to make one with a reaper keeping me from the lifepod fabricator :P

It probably followed you or other fauna after leaving the aurora. So not really a bug. It clipping through the flaw has been a know bug for sometime.

You are either going to have to get it to follow you away. Or do some cheats and set your knife to like 1000 damage to kill it.

There have been reports recently of Reapers and Reefbacks straying into the Safe Shallows when they shouldn't. This could be an example. Or it followed you, like kingdoo10 said.

It usually happens to me when I push my seamoth to the limit on speed. I think it's a spawning issue. And it's not limited to the fish. Items in wrecks and welding doors have the issue too. I think it is because they do not have enough of the map as a static load and render it live as you move. This is especially apparent in the mushroom forest which even with my xfx R280 I have to wait 5 min before it finnish loading.

Couldn't get it to follow me - it really seems to think its new home is the life pod. Oh well. Killed it, and thankfully the corpse despawned quickly. I was worried I'd have a giant monster draped all over the scenery ruining my fung shuei ;)

By the way, I'm pretty sure it didn't follow me - unless it was stealthy ninja-like and has a great sense of timing. I didn't hear it or see it at all on the way back to the pod, and I stopped to pick up things like quartz and peepers on the way in so I was puttering around a lot. I heard the first roar while I was in the lifepod cooking some fish, went O.o and went outside and AUGH leviathan eating my seamoth!

I was reading the Trello and there was discussion of problems with monster tethers. They're supposed to go back to their patrol area when they get bored of chasing you (and they do get bored) but they've been fighting bugs.

Yes I have had a reaper "follow me" to the safe shallows before. I am not sure how they get there. I've also had a reef back get there too. I tried to get the reaper to follow me out of the safe shallows. It sort of worked: he followed me to the deeper water in the kelp zone but then he came back into the safe shallows.

I can confirm this. At my first start I had 2 of 'em lurking around my lifepod - I restarted the game.

The second time only one of these guys showed up and he destroyed my seamoth two times...

Thankfully at the second time I was able to build the cyclops.

It's more than just the Reefbacks and Reapers....

Biters will chase Reefbacks as food-targets now(It's how I got two of the MASSIVE buggers stuck in the shallows next to my base)
Once i killed the biters the Reefbacks seemed to putter off of their own accord.

Somehow a few Bleeders spawned near my lifepod/base in Safe Shallows (i'm not "close" to the Kelp forests)

When using the Cyclops to gather salvage in the Debris field a Reaper spawned next to the sub, swimming away like a bat outta hell so that it clipped into the world. I thought it was over and done and made my way back to base... head inside to start making plasteel when *imitates reapers roar* "well shit.... That's where it went."

I think some creature spawns(any creature) may zero in on the lifepod as their own "home." sort of like an NPC version of the Bounding Box error... except, instead of a static object teleporting to 0.0 on the map, they make their travel way to the lifepod or built structures(which reminds me of the "creatures will attack your base" mechanic the dev team's spoken of before just massively blown out of proportion)

Fighting with the Reaper(thank you SPD) i also magically found that a crabsnake had spawned around the base in the shallows and because the terraformer is gone and the crabsnakes like to hidey-hole i can't find it to kill it with the SPD... so now i'm plagued with constant, unending crabsnake screams.... i even think there may be a Boneshark wherever the crabsnake is too cause i hear that on occasion.

I have a reefback that is attempting to mate with my near surface base in the shallows and a stalker that seems to really want to take the base back to the kelp forest as tightly as it keeps circling it and before the stalker showed up and scared off everything but the reefback, I had two gasopods attempting to fumigate the base.

The reefback will occasionally move out of the shallows long enough that it's not 100% out of the water but keeps attempting to return to the base.

I have relocated to the thermal near lifepod six but left the old base up as a reminder of the folly of seakind.

Semi-related question: if this happens to me and I kill that particular reaper with my kung-fu PRAWN skills, will it respawn in its original habitat or are Reapers a "limited resource"? I was operating on the assumption that things respawn in this game, but I wasn't sure.

Edit: A cursory google search yields a suspiciously vague answer that they probably respawn like most things - so this is my assumption.

Reapers will, indeed, respawn but only in their designated locations.... As long as you don't venture into Reaper territory(Dunes, Arora, Debris field) there shouldn't be a Leviathan that heads to the shallows to harass you.... Since the closing of the Grand Reef entrance to the Lost River you can access it through Bloodkelp... bypassing the reapers at the bow of the Aurora....

    Fix for reefbacks
    Open console commands
    Type
    Damage 500
    Hit reefbacks with knife.
    Open console
    Type
    Damage 1
    Damage is now normal.

    Fix for Leviathan
Prawnsuit punchies... That's about it. The damage command increases all damage dealt and done.

True but them being unable to move and trapped in the safe shallows looks to me as a long painful way most probably die anyway.

I've got two reapers to the immediate south of my pod. I decided I like them, they're named Larry and Bob. Normally when I scan reapers I pull out in a cyclops with a status gun firing away, scan and book it back. But Larry and Bob aren't like the wild reapers, they're my pets, I go out to swim with them and get scanned nice without using any nasty guns. They give me love taps which I did use health packs for, but it's not like they're trying to kill me they're just playing. Not only that but I play with them while the pink frame bug is still happening. Some might say Larry and Bob are bugged, but I say they're a feature and I might keep them rather than start new games like I normally do.

I’ve got a reefback lurking around my pod, shaking it from time to time so that even cooking a fish can feel like having Parkinson's disease.
I’ll try to "delete" it now with the console-hint. Thanks for that.

Also I came back from the Aurora and now I also have a nice, friendly and happy Reaper in the safe shallows. :#

I got a Reaper as well and had to restart because i couldn't get to my life pod without my seamoth being destroyed and every time I tried to build a new one it was immediately destroyed. On my next game I had a Stalker show up which wasn't nearly as bad with how slow they are, but I throw any materials that I don't need at the time in one of the giant coral tubes instead of storing them in lockers because I found out that nothing happens if you do this and it saves on resources. The problem was that the Stalker kept grabbing my metals through to walls of the corals and taking them off to put in his own little pile, and didn't like it when I stole my stuff back. What makes it even funnier is that I moved my stash 3 times and the darn thing kept finding it and stealing all my stuff!

all fauna can de-aggro if either far enough away or in a position where it cant deal damage, therefore hiding in the lifepod/base will de-aggro it... after a long time, so i hope you have enough rations

I was not only killed but ambushed by a leviathan while i was treading water at that sand bank that comes out the water thats along the hull of the Aurora. i kinda figured a stalker or those pests biters would kill me in the shallow water not a behemoth that cant even fit in the shallow water an this is on xbox.

I have a base on the edge of the kelp forest, and in between it and my life pod I believe two Gasopods are having a war. Everytime I go over to my life pod I have to speed through a minefield of around 50-100 fart bombs. It's a good kill area for stalkers who don't know how to leave me alone.
