@Foxy - Please and thanks
Ah, yeah.... @Captain_Epic sorry for the rude welcome. It's just that multiplayer's a bit of a dead, tenderized horse.
A bit of hope for the multiplayer crowd!
Its not something I'm to fussed about myself, I love the game as a single player, I would be kind of cool though to show of bases and stuff to others players in game, that said, what I want more than anything is to see this great game finished to a high standard and would not want multiplayer development to distract from that.
Bad multiplayer community, bad
All kidding aside, while I enjoy these lovely threads for such an original request, people still keep missing the sticky thread "Coop or multiplayer in Subnautica? I'm afraid not." Could the devs change the font size/style of the sticky to be more eye-catching, or better yet add flashing text colors on a glowing background? Then maybe new players can be smarter when suggesting "new" ideas that won't get shot down faster than the Sunbeam making a rescue attempt...
you realize this was probably posted ironically right?
I don't think so mate, why would the head of development troll his customers like that, it looks to me like he is trying to get an idea of what many players are asking for
Multiplayer can't be added due to the complexity of interaction; it's no longer the player character interacting with just the environment and the AI, but a mind-boggling combination of environment and AI spanning multiple player machines with multiple player characters, all of which can interact. (At least Subnautica wouldn't have the wide scale ranges of other SF multiplayer games, which makes this all much much worse.)
Multiplayer has to be decided first, then whichever engine is picked for the game has to be adapted to that. And a whole lot of interaction questions have to be decided to make them work together in the context of what the developers want to happen in Subnautica.
I think this is long-range audience research for a possible follow-on multiplayer game expanding from or similar to Subnautica. As in years after Subnautica releases.
