Performance concerns - is my PC up to Subnautica?

Hi, I've been finding out a lot about Subnautica and like what I see. However, before I get my feet wet (doh!) I was wondering if the game needs a high-spec PC to run on. I have a good PC (memory, CPU) but with an average graphics card. I can run games like Farming Simulator smoothly and hope the same would be true of Subnautica. Any advice would be appreciated.

I may have answered my own question in checking the FAQs on the main site. It says you need a very powerful GPU. Not sure In have that. My PC config is currently:

NVIDIA GeForce GT 620, 4010Mb (Acer display - 1920 x 1080)
Processor: AMD A10-6700 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics (4 CPUs), ~3.7GHz
Memory: 6144MB RAM

Is this enough to run the game in its current form?

You are going to run into issues with that Geforce GT 620.
It is as low as you can go for a video card, it is only 10% of the performance of the 600 series and is more meant for desktop applications than it is for gaming. (farming simulator is a 2D game like a webpage)
Judging by the fact that you are running an APU I am assuming you are on a laptop, so it's probably a 620m

Unfortunately, you would definitely need a different graphics card, one meant for gaming.

A GT 620 gets a score of 434 (see this awesome site for all GPU comparisons - http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/) and is on the bottom of the "High to mid range" GPUs.

Compare that with the top half of the high end gaming GPUs and you see they are scoring upwards of 4-5000. I have the GTX 780 which scores 8,042.

So as you can see you may need to upgrade to one of the higher end GPUs if you want to start running games like Subnautica with any decent sort of frame rate.

Thanks for the info, guys. Looks like Subnautica will have to wait. Appreciate the facts. Any suggestions for a reasonably priced GPU?

FYI, IronHorse, the APU is running on an Acer desktop PC.

If you have a desktop. the GeForce 750Ti is a really fast card at a very reasonable price. You dont even have to replace your PSU either. Will run Subnautica quite well indeed

I have a 750 ti, works great with the game at doesn't drop below 50 to 60 fps on highest detail.

I have double 970 gtx with 4770k, but it still doesnt run all that smooth, game is more CPU intensive, and SLI not working yet.

Actually, after going to get a 750Ti they say my 300W PSU won't work. So yeah, AAAAAAND, a new PSU won't fit in my tiny PC case, so to transfer it into a bigger PC case, then get them to transfer the stuff, then for us to buy the PSU and GPU I am looking at spending $400, well then.

basic build for a custom computer I usually go with and have been told by a friend of mine who builds computers as a profession. Minimal 1k spending on a brand new spanking gaming rig, you wanna go with at least 650W PSU If you want to link two graphics cards or more your going to need a more powerful PSU.

If you have Surface Pro 3 "i7" version, it should work (with a mouse). If you have an "i5" version, it would be slightly below the minimum spec, but might be able to run it (no guarantees). If you have the low end "i3" version, it would not be worth trying.

Yeah, think of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 as our current Minimum Spec machine SN should just about run on, at around 30FPS. If you have the i7 Surface Pro 3, you'll get a little more, but not much.

I've been looking at subnotica for a while and finally got it. when i started it up I ran into a graphical problem.
My specs are:
ATI Radeion HD 5570
Processor: Inter(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz 3.20GHz
RAM: 6 GB
Would any of my specs not being up to par cause this or is it something else? My driver is apparently fully updated, not sure whats the problem. Any help appreciated

@ANARCHYTHEREAPER You're running a version of Subnautica which is severely out of date. Please update your steam version.

run dxdiag (search in the start menu) and hit "save all information" then copy that file to pastebin, or upload it to something like Google Drive or Dropbox and post a sharing link. Then we can see your complete system specs.

I think my laptop meets/surpasses almost all of the minimum standards, but I don't know much about this sort of thing so I wanted to get an outside opinion to make sure.

Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
Memory: 12288MB RAM
Graphics: Intel(R) HD Graphics 520
DirectX Version: DirectX 12

I know it doesn't meet the recommended specs, but would it run with at least decent framerate?

Answer: maybe, and install Subnautica to SSD if you have one, and use this:
