Web Limit

<div class="IPBDescription">Don't use up all our webs!</div> Sometimes you've been a gorge and noticed that web doesn't seem to be working. The web animation still plays and you hear the proper sounds, but you just don't see that web you just placed. That's because IT'S NOT THERE.

There is a maximum limit to the number of webs you can have active on a map at once. I think it's 64, but don't quote me on that. As soon as the second hive goes up I've seen gorges use up all the webs on a single hive entrance and then continue trying to spray webs over the rest of the map. You're not helping, and the marines usually won't help you out by welding that massive clump of webs for you.

Be economical with your web usage so you still have some available at that critical moment when some heavy armor rounds the corner. Battle gorges can be a massive asset to your fades by tripping up those marines with heavy weapons and making them easy kills. You're denying your team of a serious tactical advantage when you use up all the webs over some corner of the map where no fighting is going on.

The problem is simply that it's not widely publicized that there is a web limit. I certainly didn't know about it when I first started playing.

Given that webbing is a fairly simple entity, can't we increase the limit? Does it increase server load and therefore latency?

I can understand having some limit on web, but a global limit seems odd. I can picture a per-gorge limit, perhaps.

    Aye, couldn't agree more.

It's a frustrating thing when you're gorging in a tight game is walls of white web when you're going to assist the attackers. Almost as frustrating as seeing another gorge on a team of 4-5.

Not quite as frustrating as seeing one of these other gorg's build walls of lame at the hive entrance and in the hive leaving no OC's to build in the area. People say "those 2-4 OC's and 4 webs don't fortify the hive" Well buddy, neither do 40 OC's in hive if you have no OC's out of the hive in the marine's favourite siege positions.

Anyway I got side-tracked with my pet hates, it happens a lot because I don't like people. I believe a gorg should be able to spit down a web. Problem solved! I also believe they should be able to unbuild a structure (no res regain unlike recycling) by holding the 'use' key on a fully built structure (where unbuild takes the same time as build). If one of those people who really care wants to post it in the suggestions forum go for it. It'd just be nice to undo the mistakes of lesser the gorge.

    Cheers

What makes it worse is that there's no easy way to eliminate the webs that are already down (unless you ask the marines nicely to come weld them). Sometimes a single gorge will drop the entire quota trying to defend himself or his towers in a really tough situation, and then the rest of the team is left with a total of 3 webs

Yea..having webs run out within 5 minutes of the second hive being put up isnt good..but if there was a feature to take em down u'd get llamas coming and removing all the webs :/
Unless u was able to remove ur own webs, but u'll prolly be the person putting them in decent places so would eliminate the idea of it being a useful feature..the same goes with structures u could take down.

Last I recall, the autohelp feature, which is on by default, tells you why you can't make any more webs.
  • TempestTempest Join Date: 2002-11-10 Member: 8083Members
Yes, autohelp does tell you when you're at max. That doesnt help the fact some people web too much. (If a newbie keeps webbing and then gets that message it's already too late, you're at max webs)

i always thought that there was a web limit for each area of the map. So you can lay a whole bunch at one spot, max out, and go across the map and lay a whole bunch at another spot and max out. Its just you have to space in between.

What I like to do is get carapace and andrenaline, web a marine two times, then whip out the healspray. Normally they just kill themselves and save themselves the humility of getting healsprayed, though. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

i believe the autohelp says that there are too many webs in this area (much like chambers) but by "this area", in the case of webs, it means the whole map.
  • BadVoodooBadVoodoo Join Date: 2003-01-14 Member: 12283Members
Just a quick FYI. There is two auto help messages. One that tells you there's too many in an area like chambers and a second that tells you there are too many team webs.

If you use web right, you can seal up ANY entrance pretty damn well with 2-4 webs. You just have to compensate for a couple things when placing web:

    Can they jump over it?
    Can they duck under it?
    Can they go around it?
If no to all 3, have you used more webs than the minimal amount needed to cover all three of these questions?

Obviously the wider entrance and wider/longer the hallway, more webs are required for complete coverage. But if placed properly you don't NEED complete coverage. Don't lay down enough web to halt their entire team, just enough to stop the front runners and get your reinforcements there.

Also only 3 webs in a triangle pattern around the top of the hive will definitely stop any jump-happy jetpackers...no need for more.

Just tryin to give some help about efficient placement of webs <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

prahaps an additional item on the HUD for gorges when they have web selected or use web.

a little text on the side or in corner of the screen 33 out of 64 webs used OR 33/64 Webs

at least this would let even new ppl know that they gonna run outta webs.

I wish there was a little bar that shows how much web you hav left, like an energy bar in other words ;0

a few webs with a few OC's will block an entrance just fine. Marines can't sit and weld the webs cuz they will get shot by the OC's. They can't run by because of the webs. They compliment each other. I think the max number of OC's in any opening should be 3. And keep the webbing to 5 at most. The only thing you have to worry about is OC range and regular checking of the webbing. If the marines can sit back and have a field day with the OC's then you placed them incorrectly. If you don't check the webbing marines may eventually break through the webbing by sacrificing themselves. Oh and throw a web or 2 on the ground behind the OC's incase a marine "jump-welds" over them.

what IS the gorge web limit, where should we be using?

    Kitsune?? Kitsune?? where are you when we need you! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Who? What? Where? Huh. Y'know, it never did occur to me to find that out. I'll look into it. Been lazy since 1.04's release, not much in the way of new stuff to figure out.

It needs to be more apparent that webs are limited. Once I just kept spamming the entire map with webs and suddenly lost it! D'OH!! So now I place webs more intelligently and save most of it for battle gorging.

    I prefer:
    1) web marine
    2) chuckle
    3) start building OC
    4) chuckle
    5) web marine again
    6) finish building OC
    7) chuckle

cause kitsune is my stats hero, i decided to test this out. the TOTAL MAP limit is 64 webs. a total AREA limit is around 24-5.

hope that satisfies the hardcore stats counter in all of you <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

can't believe noone picked up on this.

if you have hivesight on while placing webs, you hear the sounds and see the animation but you will not see the web you just placed, but it WILL be there.

    Be aware.
