Can they be shot?
Can skulks be shot through resource towers, I find myself coming around a corner only to see a skulk in the distance bust chomping a resource tower, a few times I whip out my pistol and try shoot them through the gaps in the RT's ' legs '. Is it possible to hit them through that gap or not?

Yes it is. Res tower blocks most of those bullets, but it is possible to hit

Yeah. Best bet is to whip out your pistol and nail them. If you are still hitting the structure rather than the skulk, close the distance and get in close with whichever weapon you prefer.

Thing is, if you whip out pistol and start firing you let the skulk know you're coming, they cant hear you coming while they're chomping so it may be better to just walk right up and empty your LMG into the skulk.

If they're behind the res tower they'll see you through the legs.

The legs themselves don't acctually stop bullets IIRC the hitbox is rather odd though. Needs testing probably.

Well you have very good view behind that tower as skulk. I always go behind it and start to chomp and if i see a marine, who is coming to get me, i just jump out, kill him and keep biting that tower

spot him, pull pistol and send him to oblivion asap. dont bother taking the LMG, waste of bullets in that scenario.

The hitbox on the RT is actually quite small, considering the size of the model - it's a narrow column at the center section.

Test it out in a LAN game - stand still and start spraying bullets all over the RT. Shoot once straight down so you'll have a reference point of where you were standing, then walk around the RT and you'll see where the RT blocked the bullets.

    No
Download half life model viewer and go to x:\sierra\half-life\ns\models
You can open all those models there by using that program and look them, their animation, hitboxes etc...

Here is a link for that program:

I'd like to see some pics of the other model hitboxes so we can see how screwed up some of them are - especially the Onos. It'll be useful to know where to shoot until they get the problem fixed.

The hitboxes you see in HLMV are all fine, believe it or not. Onos, crouching marine, "mansized" skulk, etc.

its in-game where the wierd stuff arises.

I didn't think that RT hitbox model looked right - after all, you can walk right through (as well as shoot through) the legs.

Oh well. /me wants 1.1 even more now.

Try crouching I have found that helps alot. You seem to hit the skulks alot more.

Using the RT legs for cover is why a good alien team will simply rush right to the marines first RT and slow down your team considerably. They don't care if they die, they just want to kill the RT as fast as possible, so don't play Sniper (if you're the only 1 there) and give them more time. You should simply rush in and put a clip into him/them. If they stop to attack you as you get around the RT and die... um, bye bye first RT.

Also, if you try to snipe them, they will simply move behind a leg and make it harder for you or even just get behind the body of the RT.

Whatever boxes the modelviewer shows, its def. not the hitboxes used in halflife. I had this problem in firearms as well. I think it was rc2.5 where hitboxes while prone where horribly mixed up. You got headshots if yhou shot someone into the neck, the head itself had no hitboxes at all. With modelviewer everything seemed to be right though.

Very frustrating as COM and very satisfying as skulk.

Most marines don't seem to realise that the RT is worth a hell of a lot more then them. I usually don't care at all about the marine, just keeping the RT between him and me. Most marines stand at a distance trying to kill me with potshots, once the RT is down I am of course dead meat, but I just cost the marine team 22rp vs (at most) 2rp for my team.

Personally I rush the skulk like crazy to prevent him from chewing the RT, even if I die there's a chance I have abought enough time for another marine to kill him or the COM to finish recycling the RT.

Sadly, Those are completely different than the hitboxes on the ents.

All hitboxes on the ents are square or rectangular, They dont have wierd shapes.

If anyone would want an example of what im talking about ill be happy to show anyone.

Someone with an older patch of HL, I think before the most recent one needs to install NS, then go ingame and type drawentities 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 or something, it will show you the hitboxes in game. Then again, maybe you can do it with sv_cheats on. I'll need someone to help me check.

the bounding boxes are square and regular, but that's different than the hitbox. The bounding box defines movement collisions, like so you can't walk through a wall. But I think that the bounding boxes maybe somehow related to the hitbox problems ingame.
