The way I see it, Flay could simply disable /kill by making it a state. You can't /kill yourself while "DEAD" or "REIN," so if he made a state "FOOD" for the digesting marines act like the dead state, it wouldn't do squat.
here is a suggestion. When an onos has a marine in his stomach make it so there is a small animation that plays on the sides of the onos....like the marine is pushing around and trying to get out. This would make it so the other marines will single out this onos that is the keeper of another marine! Thus drawing all of their fire to the one onos so they can save their fellow marine brother!
Heh, hands clawing at the inside of the Onos' stomach would be a neat thing to see, but I doubt it could be implemented. Even if it was, it probably wouldn't be as easy to see as you think it would, unless the Onos remained perfectly still and the marines were fairly close to it.
Still neat, though <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
It is somewhat pointless to talk about balance regarding the ONOS or this ability, as we know nothing at all about the other 1.1 changes. The thread is really only here to give the masses something to drool over. Having said that...
Logically you could assume that the 2 abilities being removed would be paralyse/primal scream. Primal scream is a support ability, and a godlike one at that, if you assume the NS team are attempting to create a reasonable fighting scenario at the 3 hive stage, instead of instant death in 10 seconds, then the removal of primal scream is a step towards that goal. Paralyse is the onos JP counter, and a strong counter it is too. If the onos (Which is already very strong against HA marines as it is) is to get a hard counter to HAs (Devour) it would be sensible to remove it's hard counter to the only other option the marines have. Which means dropping paralyse. You now have an onos with gore, charge, devour and a currently unnamed ability - In otherwords onos is now a hard counter to HA and JP is a hard counter to onos. And if you want to avoid getting eaten, you get off the ground. That's all theory, as i've said we don't know how the rest of the changes are going to turn out.
If that is the way Flayra is thinking, it is probably worth pointing out that in their present form, a Fade/Lerk/Onos group is still significantly more potent than an equivalent JP/HA marine group, particularly if you introduce devour. JPers may now be more helpful against Onos, but the problem is that to fight an alien mix, the marines are now expected to mix their own tech's, JP/HA. To try and field the varying counters to Fade/Onos/Lerk - this wouldn't be an issue if HA/JP had any sort of synergy at all.... but they don't. They are horrible in combination. Having to move with a HA group immediately nullifies the major advantage of a JP, and a HA naturally requires welder support, which a JPer can't give because his light armour makes it a requirement for him to be constantly evasive. As it stands, HAs need to move in groups of 2/3 minimum with welders to have a meaningful impact, that cuts a big hole out of your players available to jetpack, and a couple of jetpackers have no ability to prevent a HA getting eaten. These marine techs don't complement eachother in the way the alien evolutions do, and if there is a requirement to mix techs this is unlikely to work in the marines favour. This of course is all dependant on the other changes made in 1.1, but it is something to keep in mind.

I love this idea, and I can't wait to see it in action. But, concerning the ability removal - I personally hope that charge and gore get merged. Right now it's kind of confusing, because onoses get TWO melee attacks, both of which are kind of similar. I still have trouble figuring out which one to use in a situation. The way I would do it is to make charge/gore into a single ability, and just call it "gore" for now. A single tap would act just like gore and take out a small chunk of energy (just like a regular melee attack), but you could also decide to hold the button down after that and get a charge with the "energy drain" effect. So, you could either click a lot and get tusk gore action (which btw should have a knockback effect), or you could hold the button down and charge things with your horn. This would give onoses better control over their attacks without adding a secondary fire button.
It'd be cool of eaten marines would yell, and the guys outside could hear his muffled screams for help. Then they'd hear a gooshing noise, and then silence. That would make it sooo sweet.
I think the idea is really supreme, think of it, you're next to the marine base, and there are five marines totally equiped, you enter, devour one, go out, one or two will follow you, to try and rescue the devoured team-mate, you can get those two easyly, and the last to are easy to kill with a single Charge.

It would be neat(but unmeasurablely annoying for a marine) if after death, he stayed in the Onos for a few minutes. Sure this *might* just toss off the evening but not by much and IMO, I think devour should be a level 4 attack. I don't mean replace primal scream or pointing out any other attack to remove.

Interesting to note that if this ability does replace paralyse it would be availible to a 1 hive onos, and the "all aliens at all times" idea has been thrown around a lot and Flayra said he really liked it so I'm presuming it's in the works. Would it be too powerful to allow an onos to swallow an opponent and keep on fighting with gore? (forget charge and ps for the moment) Maybe at 1 hive, although I say MAYBE, if someone has saved up the res for ages to get an onos at 1 hive they don't want it to die easy. But I love ps and charge to much to want to see them go. As for PS being overpowered c'mon, it's a 3rd hive ability. These abilities are supposed to be game enders; the marines arn't supposed to be balanced compared to them.
