    *cough*

    i apologize for the maybe redundant post, but what's up with your map (top right corner of screenshots)?
    -> and are you testing the map in a beta 1.1? or is it still 1.4?

    just a question but has a beta of this been released? I'd love to give it a shot but I don't know whether it's even out there yet. Any server's have it? Or does kfs hand it out on a personal basis?

    KFS, perhaps one of your greatest weaknesses as a mapper is that you don't give yourself proper credit for your work.

    Eclipse is one of the most popular maps for a reason, don't mess it up in the name of being "satisifed" with your map. With you, that could very well be never.

    A mapper has to be satisfied with what he does. It's not beating himself up. How would you like to release something that's not your best work?

    Me, i'm my own worse critic.

    I've been mapping for HL since 1998... yet what do i have to show for it?
    1 map from my mod.

    I critic myself so badly i can't bear myself to even releasing betas and always end up moving on to other projects. I keep saying to myself, when i check out other people's work (maps):
    "ok.. this sucks.. this is bad.. this needs to be fixed... thats a nice touch.. etc... But still.. it's 1 more map then ill ever release."

    I'm getting to the point where i envy the noobies who release their maps full of bugs and without a single care. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    also i felt things like this...in the last times i'm not mapping due to computers problems...finally i got the new comp and now i have some inspiration <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> but i still have to try a sketch...
    btw i'm like you,what i call "mapping exercise" for some friends is beauty,i think is beauty, but it's an unfinished map,and i wanna feel good with myself, i'm not the kind of guy that build just 2 rough hallways to ends up the work for release...i wanna be satisfied in first place with myself, the release and the others thoughts come after. i consider myself just an half-mapper...

    work your way,don't envy noobs, learn from other mappers(not only from HL! look also to other games) and try also to merge projects...i read 1 time from an interview/an article from a mapper of cs(don't remember who now) that said "u are mapping and have a great idea...instead of starting a new map cos the idea seems to don't fit the map u're making...think of a way to use the new idea in the actual project"...ur map will be a sum of great ideas, with a bit of luck it will be a good map <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I can never bring myself to use an effect/something done by other mappers.
    I feel im better then that, so i ultimately try and push the effect to the "next level" and make it "bigger" and more impressive.

    You should see what i did with the particle engine.
    It's HUGELY underused in official NS maps cuz people don't realise it's potential for atmosphere.

Preferably, the ceiling right next to the wall...
    So instead of:
    <!--c1--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->_______________

    | | |

    we get:
    <!--c1--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->
    ____
    |  _  |
    |  |   |___________
    |  |             \      /
    |  |              HIVE
    |  |
    <!--c2--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->
    ...having it near the wall like that will disallow people sitting in the vent and shooting the hive anyway, with even LESS chance to get him for skulks and lerks... <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
    But does that mean you will not longer be able to LERK out marines base from the vent?

    Or is it gonna be something like CAGED marine start?

    Hardly. Eclipse has among the lowest entity counts of currently released maps and is no greater than 72% or so on any individual limit - most are at or under 50%. The main issue was a series of setbacks with allocblock:full, which I've now learned was as a result of the size of info_locations throughout the map, and have now remedied. I simply didn't have time to create a more visually appealing ready room.

    A new ready room has been in planning since the NS 1.0 final map submission date.

    that's cool about re-doing the rr and all, as long as it doesn't take you any extra time. Considering that the readyroom really doesnt affect the gameplay I don't care. Also I like the idea of the weldable vent at marine start, at the beginning of the game it's going to cost you 10(?) res which is very valuable early on. So it actually does make sense to have it weld-able at rine start.

    It doesn't really matter, but a new Ready Room won't hurt!

    Well, when it comes down to it, I just don't think that the Eclipse RR as it is now really feels like it's representative of the map. The goal of re-doing it would be to help it feel more integrated with the main part of the level.

    Ooh, and I just got a fun idea... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> *runs to most recent Eclipse .rmf file*

    The vent that ends up high, overlooking triad. It's a favorite of mine (as I like to lerk snipe from there) but at the other end where I'm usually entering the vent, it is very dark initially and I usually waste a couple seconds feeling around at the back until I can find the light and move on. I appreciate the darkness to hide the existence of the vent, but once inside the vent I was thinking there could maybe be small marker lights or something so I don't get lost for those 2-3 seconds (this sounds so pathetic now that I'm typing it out).

    Just a little pet peeve <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
