RE2: N64 version, that part where the licker jumps through the window in the room where you hear nothing scared me the most
RECVX: Hardly scary (except for 1 or 2 parts)
SH 1 AND 2: Never played
Doom 1: I LOVED THAT GAME! Wasn't scary at all AND I was 5 years old it didn't scare me once (sometimes, horrible graphics can lower the scare rating on a game)
Doom 2: Not scary and a little too long.
ALL THE OTHER GAMES: Never played and probably never will.
But really scared me THE MOST WAS...
the game over thing in MK4 (lol) where a pit of spikes pierce your entire body *shudders*. I've yet to see any other scary thing in a game.
Pokemon on GB color was by far the scariest thing to happen to me, my little cousin scared the pants off a me with it! And the Sargeant Major doesnt scare me like that did!

System Shock 2 comes to mind, and I just played the demo. Other than that, the most obvious one in remember-able memory is my first playtest. I don't remember such scary games since Oct 31, where the sheer immensity of maps I'd never seen put me into a mode of "Where am I? Is anyone out there? WHAT WAS THAT NOISE? Please don't let them eat me don't eat me don't eat me..."
Hehe, I just started playing System Shock 2 again, Im almost done with it. Its graphics were outdated when it came out actually, but you dont need good graphics with this game. Just put some headphones on, turn off ALL the lights, and eventually you will forget about the grtaphics and be more worried about the "Join Us" That you heard behind you.
Protocol droids in it, they can be sacry when they surptise you or if your out of ammo like I am most of the time. I never seem to have enough ammo. The spiders, I hate the spiders, especially since they can poison you. SHODAN's voice, its just disturbing, as well as the manys when it just pops up from time to time. Cyber midwifes, I hear the mechanical whirring down the hall, and then I realize I have 1 bullet left, and am low on health.....
Oh, I remember another game that scaried the **** out of me... Fade to Black! But I played it on the PlayStation... for a looooooooong time before. The thing that scaried me was the lizards looking animals... BRRR!
Silent Hill was definately the scariest game ever for me since i haven't played System shock 2 (though i've heard from many people and this thread that it is reaaaally freaky). The scariest things in silent hill were the demon children and the invisible guys. In the school, me and my friend were playing really late at night trying to find our way out of there. We went into one of the class rooms, walked around for a while, and heard this really, REALLY creepy noise somewhere in the room. We looked around for about 5 minutes trying to find out where it was coming from but we couldn't find it. Finally we got too creeped out waiting for it to attack us so we just saved and turned off the ps They hunger 2 was scary too, those stupid skeletons and those really huge guys scared the living crap out of me when i first got through it. The noises the skeles make gave me nightmares, i swear.
system shock2 is teh most frightening game ever simply becasue of the sounds and amazing ability of every hostile to kill you if you stop paying attention. the game is flat out the reason im apranoid to this day.

Older games scare me a lot more than newer ones,
Resident evil series? Bah! I can't imagine anyone over the age of 10 getting scared by those games.
System Shock 2? It probably would have scarier if I had actually played it You guys have convinced me to buy it instead of JK2.
They hunger scared me shitless at first, but a little ways through it just got funny, the zombies became more common and nearer to eachother, which caused their voices to become intermingled "Whyyyy do we come to mommies fresshhhhh meat" me and my friend were in stitches after that one, maybe if manke fixed that "problem" it would scare me again, but as of right now, every time I think about it I laugh.
The two scariest games that come to mind right away are Daggerfall and the Starship troopers mod for Duke3d. the starting dungeon in df almost convinced me to throw the cd out the window, especially the my first skeleton, the game on the whole isn't *that* scary anymore but it would cause anyone who thinks RE2 is scary to die of heart failiure, it made good use of surround sound too. The SST mod, which I found 2 days ago is a masterpiece, you'd be walking around minding your own business, usually in an area you've already cleared, and suddenly you'd hear a bug behind you, you turn around and... there'd be nothing there, then you'd hear it again, behind you, you'd turn around and... nothing again, then a split second later you were being eaten alive from the side, causing you to fire your morita in random directions and scream as you tried to get back into your chair. It also has what I consider to be "teh best weapon ever!!!!!!111oneoneone" I consider this the NS of D3d, if you have duke, and lets be honest, who doesn't? You should download and play it ASAP.
Do you think any chance of seeing a System Shock 3 in the future? I would definitely buy it, after the rave reviews of the other games. They don't make scary games like they used to, maybe survival horror is beginning to go out of fashion like the Evil Dead movies?
Well, Looking Glass is dead and I don't know if Irrational Games is still around, so chances for SS3 seem pretty slim. However, if they manage to break all the laws of probability and produce SS3 that is better and even creepier than SS2 was, I'd be happy to buy that, even if the price tag said 100€.

Agreed, the graphics are somewhat old but that doesn´t matter. The lighting and overal ambience of the levels is more than enough to keep anyone on his toes. And sound never played so much a role in a game before. Nothing but the lowpitched humming of the engines. Bleeps from some distant coputer consol. And then, somewhere far off, you hear a door open.... That really drove me nuts.
That and the fact that monsters respawned when you were not looking. You could never be sure that it was safe even after passing that hallway 10 times before.
Btw. The day I bought it, I played it for almost 16 hours straight and ended up being very late for my job the day after.

I sure can't anyway.

Silent Hill didn't scare me one bit. I think the PS's graphics were looking too old and unclean when I played it, and I was finding it hard to be afraid ofsuch pixellated scenes.
I never played RE1, but there were a couple of bits of RE2 that made me jump. However, to my mind jumping != scary. Making you jump is just a cheap trick.
I just played Undying... god i HATE! that game! i couldn't play it more then 10 min and then i started shaking and after 15min i couldn't play it anymore...
Yeah, when that red haired family member (<s>I can't remember his name</s> Aaron) starts appearing behind you silently and then rushing towards you, it starts getting pretty heavy...
I had to stop playing System Shock 2 for a while after opening a door and finding a shotgun wielding zombie guy ready to smack me over the head. It freaked me out so much (I WAS SURE THIS LEVEL WAS CLEAR!) that I had uninstalled the game and put it away for several months.
the scariest game i've ever played was i guess silent hill. other games like the RE series didn't scare me...sometimes i was more scared of the sounds because all of a sudden you hear glass bursting out of no where. i'm pretty good at knifing zombies...i'm so proud.
i've only played a bit of SH2, seems just as creepy as the first one. i should hurry up and play it before SH3 comes out...
I'm going to have to go with Doom 2. No game before or since freaked me out so much. (Of course, I was younger when I played it, so I was a little easier to scare.) The dark flickery lighting, low growls of demons in other rooms, the roar as one spotted you and the sudden *WHOOSH* of a big freakin' fireball narrowly missing you...

I wanna see a horror revival.

That is seriously one twisted game. It put you in so much suspense while playing while you don't know it.
And then theres the Sanity Effects.
Best
