One game that I was suprised didn't do better than it did was Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption. A lot of people don't like this game, but its the best RPG I've ever played. Ever. It was just so immersive and stuff. Plus at the time it was quite the graphical masterpiece. Even by todays' standards their fire particle system is damned good.

Command & Conquer : Renegade. This game absolutely bombed, but I still thought it was great!!
It's a FPS version of the Command & Conquer RTS line. In single-player, you play as some sort of uber-soldier and can drive/control most of the vehicles from the game in first-person.
The multiplayer is a blast, although aircraft wasn't available when the game was first released. IIRC, there was going to be a major patch to include aircraft, but the novelty of the game wore off for me long before then. It eventually boiled down to everyone using the same few tactics, which really got old kind of quick.
Still, it'd be a blast at a LAN party if you're looking for something different. Pick up a copy for $10, install it around the network, and get a big multiplayer game on the go.
You can get Soldier of Fortune for less than 10 squids. It's got loads of sickening things, you can blow peoples heads and bodies to smithereens. Lots of blood, guts and gore, yeah one of those games that turn you a bit psycho, character models look great on this old game.
X-COM: UFO defense. Incredibly old but still amazingly fun... and who said System Shock 2 doesn't work on XP? I have XP and it works for me, albeit without cutscenes. Also, it's wareZ, not wares. Wares are things that you sell, warez is illegal trade in games

Renegade is pretty kickass, the graphics are great, mostly because they are super high res textures on somewhat low poly models/terrain. The only thing I hate about it is it has a stealth mission, I can't STAND stealth missions in a FPS game. You blow away crap with a RPG and machine gun 2/3rds of the game then all of a sudden your supposed to be uber catlike assassin dood? WTH?
I could see why it bombed though, it was pretty bland veriety wise, and it manages to lag even on my rig (and it was released like 2 years ago).
Baldurs Gate 2 - Im not sure is Baldurs Gate 2 bombed in sales, but that was the greatest RPG ever. It was just epic, complex, it had depth, it felt like the world was moving and you could never really explore it all. After playing Neverwinter Nights though, it felt like Bioware really lost its touch, and since they are starting to work on non-D&D stuff now BG2 might be the last great RPG for a long long long time.
Majesty - This was a really cool innovative RTS, its a bit awkward at first but its really cool all the combos you can create with various god structures. The tech tree was sweet.
Max Payne - Hm, would this be considered a bomb or not? I dunno, seems like it lost alot of steam real fast. Anyhow, best story I've seen in a game for awhile, and the story telling is a review in itself. It also has the best muzzle flashes I have seen to date. Good part is, Max Payne 2 is on its way! Yay!
Jedi Knight 2 - Not sure if this is a bomb either, but it has a very sparse community. Was a breeze to beat single player, but it was kickass fun. There is NOTHING as cool as force pulling 10 stormtroopers over your head into a pit behind you. Or better yet, knowing your badass enough to take down 10 stormtroopers straight up without a sweat. Maybe it was too easy, but hey, you ever seen a Jedi have a problem killing a Stormtrooper? Yeah, exactly.
Im runnin outta games. Some good sequels and new games coming out though: Deus Ex 2 (RPG of the Year) Enter the Matrix (FPS of the Year) GTA3: Vice City (?? of the Year) Doom 3 (PC Killer of the Year) Breed (Think Halo with better graphics and for the PC)
I don't know if anyone remembers this one. It was called NAM. Just NAM no numbers or dates or anything else. There's a new version out now, crappier and by a different company. The one I'm talking about though, was ripped directly from the Duke Nukem 3d engine, so much so that the vietcong were called lizardmen in the coding. And the M-16 was whatever the heck that 3 barrel machine gun was called. Anyway, this game never got big circulation, but was fun as heck on lan multiplayer and co-op.

get yourself a super nintendo, (or download an emulator), and download as many games as possible, the SNES was by far nintendos biggest success, everyone likes the "Gamecube" and the "N64," but there games just dont even come close to the quality of the SNES, even the NES is better than the N64, seriously, get the original Nintendo to, i own the original nintendo, and have lots of roms on my pc, they are just so fun to play.
good nes games: Crystalis - a guy that wears pink, (yes PINK, and you are a guy!!), and you whack things with a sword, imagine zelda, except the guy is pink, and you can shoot things out of your sword without full hp!!!
Zelda - the original, kick *** game, the only one of the series better than the original is Link to the past, on SNES.
Mario - All 3 of them, particularly the 1st and third, the best mario games ever, 3rd comes super mario world, then the 2nd.
Battle Toads - good game, bad game, depends on personal taste, but you are a frog toad thing that beats stuff up, need i say more?
Final Fantasy 2 and 3 - you need to download an english translation off the internet, but they are good, (never released in US).
Kung Fu - i guess its ok, good enough to be listed.
RC-Pro Am - both, they are some of the best racing games ever, (except death rally, and the gt series).
something
Snes games that rock
Final Fantasy 4 and 6 - released in the states as 2 and 3, or Chronicles (4 and Chrono Trigger) and Anthologies (comes with 6 ans some other square release).
Chrono Trigger - Its a must, really, greatest rpg known to man, (really, few games compete).
Uni racers - wierdest racing type game ever, but fun
Bahamut Lagoon - another square release, hard to find in english, but it is a kick **** rpg (the * just wont do in this case), you get dragons, feed them stuff, and they get the ability to kill stuff faster, and you can torch forests, blow up buildings and freeze rivers, all part of whatever strategy you want. Great Great Great Great Great.
Terranigma - you have to download, (i think), best of the "Soul Blazer" series, 2nd come Soul Blazer then Illusion of Gaia. Terranigma is also a must.
Link to the Past - Best Zelda ever, end of story, the others dont come close, they just dont, the others lost it compared to this one, not even the graphics of the 64 help Ocarana of Time and Majora's Mask win this race.
Ok, so there are many other games, just cant think right now.
for pc:
Duke Nukem 3d Doom Doom2 Master of Orion II Battle At Antares Sacrifice Lords of Magic Civilization (any but 3, best is 2) Half Life Unreal Tournament (original for cheap) Force Commander (if its cheap, it rocks to run around with AT-ATs and blow stuff up. Power to the Empire!!!)
more games than i can think of.
games NOT to get
Black & White Jedi Knight 1 (dark forces 2) Diablo II (expensive and ****) Natural Selection (just kidding) Outpost
