    the only problem I have is gewtting my maps to work, the maps somehow don't show up in the create game list, I remember reading something about info_player_deathmatch bu I 'm not sure.
    i'll show you some screenies when I've got a connection to my room

    For starters it's hella good. Kinda flambouant, and a "little" more detail would make it ideal for me. But I'm and idiot, don't listen to me. Once you're done it'll go straight into the pack. ~_^

    Not a good map, but it's still a great attempt for a newbie. I really like how you have a floor panel moved away to reveal a rescource node... not a lot of of the more extravagant maps give an explanation as to why there is a node spouting a possibly toxic or corrosive nanosludge right in the middle of the floor.

    Considering you're a mapper of 2-ish days, that's actually quite good.

    You've obviously got a good grasp of how to get around in Hammer already, which you'll be able to expand your skills in once you get a few weeks of experience under your belt. And if you spend enough time lurking around the Mapping forum, you'll find a lot of good suggestions, hints, and methods already posted that you can apply to your current and future maps.

    One hint you could possibly try to apply to your existing rooms - just mess with the lighting (<i>ie: make it a bit darker, and mess with the gamma</i>). IMO, it's the lighting that will make or break a map. Layout and architecture are way up there on the list as well, but it's the lighting and ambience that will usually get us forum zombies drooling when a mapper posts screenshots of his/her latest project.

    Good luck! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Looking good for just starting out mapping. Keep working at it. It's a skill that takes practice and patience, but in the end it's very rewarding.

    hey can someone help me, I ve got a problem with running my maps, they don't show up in the create game section!
    and I get an error message when trying to compile with hammer, so far I've exported my .map and .vis(or whatever its called) into my maps directory, but I can't actually see the map in my in-game maps folder.
    thanks for any help
    (plz don'tflame me I'm not a noob), I'm just confused

    Yeah I thought it would be a bit worrying to have one of those normally in a medical bay

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->make it a bit darker, and mess with the gamma<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    I reallise now that my map so far is too bright, I will now try to correct that.

    Nice job on the medlab tweak!! The new lighting looks a great deal more interesting than it was in the first group of pics. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
