Old classic fighter top-down jet shooter (like Raptor: Call of the Shadows - another good one). I haven't played it myself since I can't get it to work; a DOS game only. There's also supposed to be a Tyrian 2000. Haven't played that one either....
Hmmm.... going to see what version DOSBox is on now...
Any 2D games you're looking for in specific? Not just sidescrolling mario-style platformers, right?
Alien Breed I and II and tower assault Gunstar Heros* (Best game for the Mega Drive/Genesis bar none) Cannon Fodder (You can probably still find that in stores) Flashback* Blackthorne General Chaos *(I think thats what it was called, for the genesis/megadrive neway) (Excellent action strat game) Gauntlet Super Starwars/Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi for the snes Vectorman * River City Ransom Double Dragon* Streets of Rage* Ninja Gaiden* Castlevania series *
* Indicates that the game was console only afaik, so you'll need to buy them second hand (Or download an emulator, but thats bad and nasty as the developer and publisher won't get any money from it unlike purchesing a second hand game.....*Ahem*)

Vectorman 2 is good as well, and there was this one game that I used to own for my Genesis, I don't remember the name but it was 2 player cooperative and you were a ninja, at the end of each level there was a one on one boss fight, much better than gunstar heroes, although Phantasy Star 2 still trumps them both, but thats an entirely different genre..
[edit] Oh yeah, and anything with "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" on it kicks ****, no matter what it is, as long as it isn't a movie [/edit]
I used to play that with my little brother in 2 player mode

Blood Zero, Yuki's Vacation, and ZombieSmashers X. (They took off Matrix Smashers X for no posted reason). http://www.totallyScrewed.net (no I am not kidding about that URL)
Crimsonland is excellent, but sadly enough turned to shareware for a while ago. And Tyrian is also one of the best shooters I've played, and one of my favorite games all-round.
Zupico, Allready told you, I HAVE Crimsonland, and a paid version too
