Way back a long time ago one day I read the forums. In the old forums one could press "show new posts" so I never checked each forum individually. Oddly there were more posts than usual. I started reading them all and then I realize some of topics seemed out of place. Then I checked the forum they were from "Playtester forum." OMG! And I checked under my name and it read "playtester." I couldn't stop cheering and laughing with joy for over an hour. Then I realize that I should actually play the game. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
So I did. The map was Hera and I went marines. All these strange waypoints and the like. My fellow teammates explained what their were and I went to follow them. I got seperated and lost from my group. Fearing the worst, I ran around with my LMG until I ran into Hera's warehouse. There was a gorge (back then it was a mini-voltigore from Opposing Force). I fired and he fired back with his spit. Then at the same time, we ran away to opposing sides of the room for cover. The commander gave me ammo and health so I went back to finish of the gorge. He was planning to do the same thing so we traded shots once again. We then ran back and got healed. We repeated this until the game ended.
My second game consisted of me running around Hera as a gorge trying to get a %)&*)&$ hive up for over an hour (as I was alone and have no clue where hives went in Hera).
Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......I was playing on software...With all the pink lights...I was a marine with 19000 Ping......Was Terribly fun when i saw 2 onos Comin in teh base <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> ... It was the 1st hour of the NS release,I was playing on a 4 man server and i think it was dedicated
lolz.. I've got a laptop *366mhz celeron, 64meg ram, 2 meg vid card.. no 3d acceleration* that I have to run in software mode to get above 2 fps... I normally get about 12 in software, and it's funny to play off it's 56k modem... whenever I see a bunch of 'rines fire, or turrets, I get a pink og about 4800, and about 2 fps *since it only shows 4 fps as the lowest ratting*
Leme tell ya.. it's fun to play like that... for about 1 game.. then I hop on my nice, new althon XP system, with a g4, and a ton of ram.. and I play with some nice 72 fps action....*prolly could get more*
I don't remember my first one specifically. I <i>do</i> remember running round Bast on my own (because when NS came out UK servers were nigh impossible to find) before I got to play online, and being blown away by the atmosphere. My first few days of playing though were mostly spent getting lost and taking my first steps on the road to uber-gorgedom (though I've since stopped gorging because I'm well and truly tired of "OMG you built OCs first you NOOB" and such) and wallowing in a mire of my clanmates' <i>Aliens</i> quotes being spammed over voicecomms.
However, I remember the first time I was part of a HA train, pounding the aliens back across the map. It was the inspiration for one of my first NS models - the Death Squad HA reskin.
My first game ended when the lone skulk us 12 marines were fighting got fed up and left. Before that I had wondered around alone, or with a buddy moving from turreted base to turreted base each about 3 feet apart. Eventualy I got so hopelessly lost and then it ended. Oh yea and the pings couldnt have been less then 4 digits, but it was still fun.
I first played NS shortly after christmas (I was temporarily away from my com when NS came out). Fortunately I read the manual while downloading (and then some while after the download was done). I found the manual to be very detailed (a little messy to get around in though), and I really liked the small stories associated with the different alien classes and upgrades (especially how the Onos got its name). So after reading the entire manual (yes, I am that kind of a person, give me a training level for a game and I will play it before playing the real game, give me a well-written manual and I will read most if not all of it before playing the game), I hopped on a server and started playing. I joined random and started in the marine team. I knew how to build buildings, so I did that (it was early in the game and most people were just running off, leaving me to build the base). Later in the game, I suddenly for no reason found myself with a welder, so I ran around like mad (getting thoroughly lost of course, this is one thing a mnual or training level just can't prepare you for) welding everything that was broken (I think I spent half a minute welding the armory before I figured out that its health circle must be bugged <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> ). Even closed a vent with it, and got my first lmg kill (a skulk waiting above a dooway that hadn't seen me coming the other way). Shortly after that I was squeezed into the role of lunch for a hungry skulk, back to square one, where the comm was outfitting a ha train. I had the luck of getting my own ha and welder, a gl to boot. So we set out (even back then people seemed to know that ha's that stay together and weld each other live longer yay), I left most of the work to the hmgs, chucking a few nades round corners that aliens were hiding behind, and after a while we reach the hive. HMGs and gls took that out mighty quickly, gg. Next round, I decided to go alien (especially beause I am the sneaky type and like hiding in shadows pouncing on unsuspecting victims). Skulk kicked **** (or rather, chewed ****), so that's what I did. Of course I got even more thoroughly lost this time around (as I noticed, the maps get doubly complex when you're running low to the ground and have access the the vent system, and NS's maps are very complex to begin with). We lost. Very much. Ouch. Turns out we didn't have a gorge on our team, so nothing really happened for us, no resources, no chambers no hives, nothing. Next game, once again, nobody dared go gorge, so I did. I ran around placing rts, WOLs (as a rine I had seen that the oc/dc combo worked out fairly well), and finally, a HIVE! Oh boy oh boy. Suddenly there were fades everywhere, and the win didn't take long after that. So I played NS the rest of december and a few days into january, when once again I had to leave my comp for a long time. Got back to NS in the middle of may and have been learning hard ever since. I find that no matter what game you play, the way of the ninja is always the same. Yes, we all have a "ninja" phase, and this is mine. Bit late perhaps, but late is better than never. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
My first game of NS lured me like a fish. So I am now hooked to NS.
I had paged trough manual because it took about hour to download NS at the time. My friend had told me something about the game, but mostly comments like "It is cool game, try it."
So I knew there were aliens and I did know general appearance of all things.
All this but I wasn't prepared at all for the game. <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->
I joined to marine team as suggested, but I didn't understand half I saw. I remember vividly that I am at marine start in eclipse and I have no clue what is happening. All these odd sounds echo in my head and I just don't understand. So I walk out of base, because I have seen other ppl to do it.
Someone is shouting in my head and I see blue circles all around. I keep hearing all kinds of voices in my head (commander probably gave me WP but I didn't realize it then). I just walk trough quiet corridor (towards sation access alpha). Suddenly whole screen is occupied by big alien. I can vividly remember its teeth and that terrible chomping sound. <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->
I almost fell down from my chair before darkness of death covered my eyes.
After that I learned to move in team and I were usually last in squad. Sadly skulks kill last from the line too. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Sometime one team won and I decided to try aliens. After playing game or two as skulk I realized that I had more than one attack type.
I blushed behind my keyboard. After all I had scanned trough manual and checked out some newbie help that showed like 10 screenshots from game.
I don't react as wildly as before to alien attacks (or marine) but still I get surprised if a enemy jumps on me behind corner. That is one of the reasons why I love to play silenced skulks. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

I followed NS for ages before it was released, but i never posted on here (obviously, look at my join date), so i played on the first night it was released (well, it was the morning of the next day, but like 1:00 am or sommt... you get the idea), and this clan i hung around with a lot had started up an NS server already, so i joined. Unfortunatly, i had been having problems with my computer and i had NO idea what the hell i was supposed to do (i was a marine). I heard "Move to your waypoint, soldier", but i couldnt see it and i had no idea how to get there once i did see it, then i fell down a ladder, got up, went the wrong way and then got a message from the comm (who was the owner of the server) "Do you WANT a perm-ban stickman?" So i took the easy way out: I left. Then i was too scared to go back on for a while, i think i missed the first patch, but been playing a lot since then, so \o/
My first game I was completely lost as a marine. I just kind of aimlessly went with other 'rines or to waypoints and shot stuff. I had been mildly familiar with it but still had no clue what was going on. I picked it up in an hour or two.
I first heard of NS when it was mentioned on Penny Arcade. Sounded interesting, so I downloaded it and read the manual (really). My first few games were okay - lots of dying, as you'd expect. But it was only after I'd been involved in my first 2-3 hour epic struggle that it dawned on me how much different this was to all the other mods I'd been playing. Been hooked since. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
my first game was in ns_bast. i had read the manual. i followed the help text thingy and went marine first. i loaded up 250 ammo (no use denying it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->) and stepped on the phasegate. FLASH! i heard turrets beeping, marines shooting, i saw green and orange stuff, and i flashed back (1.0 <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->). wow! i really was scared <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->. after a while, i jumped back trough though, only to see an onos coming for me. We died shortly afterwards. the hive we were fighting for was feedwater, the phasegate was near the heating stove-thingies. (i found out later).
i think my games as a newb were lots of fun for me. i kept getting lost in the maps that seemed huge and never-ending. i was just walking around, getting lost, and getting killed all the time <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Just remembered : the very first game I played, I was a marine and the map was, umm... the one with Cargo, Silo and Viaduct (I still can't remember the map names!).
I had no idea what was going on, and it was made worse by the fact that the IP was badly placed so everyone who spawned got stuck. We all just took it in turns spawning and being chomped, while people who knew what going on were yelling at the comm to move the IP.
It started to get better after that, but most of the games I joined for the first week always seemed to be in the final few minutes, so as a marine I'd join the game just as the base was being bile-spammed, or as an alien the rest of the team would be wiping out the marine base and I'd be wandering around hopelessly lost. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I had been watching the website for awhile so i knew about it i downloaded the manual and read a decent chunk...but it did not help much mostly the forums have helped more.
i joined a server....i felt daring...and i joined aliens
what a rush. I found that despite getting killed very often, I would have these magical moments where I would eat a small platoon of soldiers. Each one i would take down caused the others to fire more erradically. Noting the marines were freaked out...I started to play on this not necessily concentrating on one marine at a time but taking a bite out of each and then running away.
after several days of playing i finally started to use parasite and upgrades. I would spend entire games in a hidy hole parasiting every marine that tromped out of the base. And then watch gleefully as the little yellow lights would blink out farther in the distance.
then everyone else figured it out better than me and now i am average <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
i have lately been trying to get my marine skills into gear.
all these replys made me wish i could erase all my NS memorys for 1 hour and play NS as a newbie, although it was more fun to be a newbie back then. the following story is based on how hilarious newbies can be. just felt like typing it out.
*click Click* i connected to a server, my friends advised me this game and told me about stuff like onos and here i was, waiting 'till the laoding screen would be lifted and i would glimpse at the world of NS. how did the onos look again according to them? a fat four-legged cow or was it a pig? suddenly the screen lifted and i stood in a contraption known as the... READY ROOM!!!! after 5 minutes of looking for a gun i saw a entrance called "join marines", join aliens", "random team" and "spectate". i went into the join marines entrance and i spawned in the mid of a room filled with buildings. and on a heightened platform, a big chair stood out. i walked over to a building where some otherguys stood and pressed enter, and my ammo started to fill up. suddenly we are being ordered to move to a big bleu circle we move out and before we even left our base a bunch of small dog-like beings jumped in the base and chomped a fellow teammy to shreds, i fired my gun in terror, i managed to kill one and others have been mowed down **** well, i try to move backwards, right before the alien was in range a mighty blast roared from behind me, killing the creature, i looked back and saw a teammy wielding a shotgun-like weapon. i typed thanks but he reponded only with: MOVE OUT, WE MUST HURRY. i followed him as we headed to the big bleu circle. SUDDENLY, somehting flew over us and bit our teammates before we could respond, the creatures managed to kill two of ours, reducing our number to him and me. "WTH" i said. it are lerks, small flying aliens, they do not have much armor and health so don't worry about them. wait for them to stop flying and then shoot. as we neared the circle my mentor got killed in action, i got his shotgun and started firing at the enemys, i managed to kill them and started to feel though. i progressed in a room with some lit that had smoke coming out of it and one thing that seemed to suck something out of it.
suddenly i saw a green fat fourlegged pig-like thing coming towards me. i ran for cover as it spitted some green stuff to me. immediatly i knew what it was, IT HAD TO BE A ONOS. immediatly i yelled: ONOS ONOS. i had to quickly build some round thing.strange, the onos did not come to me for some reason. as soon as i builded it, a sqaud of teammys cladded in thick armor and with big guns came trough, they stormed in saying things like: ILL KNIFE THAT FAT COW. and shot the onos, suddenly they looked around and asked, where is the onos? "you just killed it" i replyd. suddenly they all typed LOL. and the guy who owned the shotgun i now had said:"that was a gorge, he builds stuff for them" .
they mopped things up and i wandered off, soon i was lost, then i entered a big room and in the darkness of the middle i saw a big creature standing.i tryed aiming my flashlight on it, but it evaded it, when i managed to capture in a ray of light, i saw a amazing thing
it inspired fear into me, but calmed me at the same time with the thought that victory was at hand.
i hated it, yet at the same time loved it.
it staggered like a horse and was gone, i tryed to follow it but accidently jumped in a deep pit. as i respawned, the base was all buzy with making cannons and sentrys, i asked what was going on, and the one that owned the shotgun answered: "they got 3 hives" immediatly after that large creatures followed, shooting large projectiles. killing us, when i respawned, loads of cow-like things stood there. i backed off from the computer and regained my breath, i ran out of the base, hiding in the darkness, the pistol lies besides me, so i would be able to escape the creul fate my teammys suffered, suddenly i went berserk, rushed into a hiveroom, i watched with disgust at the sack hanging to the ceiling, gorges stood there spitting and skulks tryed to bite my ankles off, i managed to kill the gorges and skulks, and ran out again, i sworn to kill as much aliens before i die, but eventually i jumped into a pit when the fades surrounded me.
First -> I wanted help! someone help me! Then I get "Drop the damn welder you n00b!" Let me tell you, its a good thing I played TFC to drop extra ammo or I would have been hated on top of screwed.
sceond -> I fell down a shaft in BAST, thinking the damage would be unreal like in other games...learned my lesson.
third-> I spent 10 minutes building my first respawn portal tapping "E"!!! .....E-E-E-E-E-E-E....damn this is taking a long time.....E-E-E-E-E.....
fourth-> I ran off on my own...yeah...it was boring at base..ppl yelling at you...just ppl building...come on! I want to shoot some stuff! So I did...the ceiling...the floor...the walls...I think I was lucky and one bullet made it into that skulk in front of me. Man the things you do when you panic.
fifth-> I quit....a week before I gave it one last try, its a good thing I did or I wouldn't be here now
Ahhh, the good all times. I got the mod Nov. 1. Remember when it was released a day earlier in Halloween. Well I did marines first (duh) and I was on caged. Didn't know jack. I was tapping to build AND get ammo. Of course, I was quite a ammo hogger (nowadays, 100 fine for me) and rush rambo style (learned from THAT didn't we?). But I was astonished by the teamwork. Gosh almighty I loved it. We lost though, fade rush I believe. When I first played alien, I kept asking: what does 14/33 on the left mean??? (Later it was like: 35/66?? Whoa, it just went up. What happened???) Didn't like the jaws obstructing my view, but it was ok. Oh yes, the first time I saw an onos was tanith. It was truly horrifying (we were screwed with lmgs) and fun at the same time. The marine team survived in the comm corner with 15 turrets (nope not a mistake). It was truly fun fun fun!!
I downloaded NS just a few hours after it's release, and eventually found a server. The map was ns_eclipse. I joined marines first, as the game suggested, and looked in awe at this base full of many different gizmos and structures as i spawned. I run around a bit, looking at the base, thinking "Oooh, spinkee!... Wonder what these thingies do!". :)
Just then, the doors to the base slid open and this huge Rhino-Like alien creature bursts in!
"WOAH!, What is THAT!?" Was my immediate reaction. About 4 or 5 of us fire at it in panic. The creature manages to mow down three marines before getting drilled to death by the masses of turrets in the base.
After observing this scene, i thought to myself...
"I think i'm gonna like this game! :D"
I also fondly remember one of my first trys at alien. It was on ns_hera. We storm off in random directions, (Both teams, actually. :)) When two of us eventually manage to find the marines base through the Maintenance Corridor, and have a quick chomp at it, and get shot :).
The whole team was communicating, mainly with comments like "Wow, this game is cool!" ;), but then the Gorge asks "Hey, which one of these chambers shall we have?".
After a quick natter about what skills each one has, the entire team decides... "SENSORY! Cloaking sounds cool!".
We get our cloaking and run back to Maintenance Corridor and wait for the marines to walk by as me and another skulk sit and wait in the dark.
A lone marine walks past, and gets chomped within seconds. :D
The next time he comes down the corridor he's very cautious, and moves around slowly with another marine following him. I let out a quick chuckle and they're now very flustered.
We wait untill he's just below us then we both drop down and munch one marine head each.
"lol, aagh! Sneaky aliens!" I recall one of them saying. :)
Ahh, those first few days where Sensorys weren't frowned upon.
i remember my first game of NS. forget what map it was, but when i spawned in, a group of marines were circled around a strange building, and in my rememberance of reading the manual, i figured out it was the ammo dispenser. this in itelf had me well pleased, as i had never played a game or mod that had me press "e" to grab my ammo. it felt great stocking up.
after we all loaded our weapons, we got a group of 'rines together to go out and (as i thought) take out a hive or something. little did i know, when i spawned in the aliens already had three hives and were wasting us. but oblivious to this fact, i merrily trodded down the hall with the platoon, feeling great about such a great team-oriented game.
our first encounter was an onos.
two marines rounded a corner, and as fast as they did that they came bookin back. i had no idea what was going on until i saw the beast. the marine standing next to me must not have had any common sense at all cuz he decided he was gonna wrestle with the hunk of flesh. i turned and ran with the other 2 fellows. behind us we could hear the pounding of the onos's tusk against the armor of our comrade, to be followed soon after by the clank of his weapons to the ground. none of us turned around and ran to the best of our "w" smashing ability but alas, to no avail. the onos quickly laid waste to our bodies.
after that i f4ed and joined the alien team so i could be one <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
after the second page of this post i was pooped from reading. it was hilarious. but i'll make this short... the first time i played i connected to a server and landed on ns_eclipse, i couldnt get in marines so i became an alien. 5 on 5 and early in the game i decided lets try gest into something else of course i didnt know what res was so nothing worked but gorge. some odd reason no one complained so i somehow trotted my way into the marines main hold. But i saw nothing there but a futuristic chair of some sort and 1 round pizza looking thingy and an armory which i told my team looked like a large trash can with strange handles. so my teammates said build an "OT" I said what the hells an OT?!! so they explained quickly 2me, so i tried it but realize duh i had no res but i had enuff for a sensory, i then thought to myself hmmm...maybe i would surprise my team and build a sensory so i took the initiative and built one, i thought why not?i could win one for the team and be hailed as a hero, even though i knew nothing at the time what a sensory's function was. haha! next thing you know i was flamed through the whole game for being so dumb and a newb...the marine team gave me the coveted title of MVP for there team,we end up losing horribly and to top it off the admin temp banned me. All i could do was just laugh it off. To this day I think back on my first time at NS and just laff, and when i see a newb on my team and ask me how to play aliens all i type to him is "ROFL LOL LMAO"
The first game I can remember was on Bast in the water hive of which name escapes me at the moment.
I was playing as Aliens, and at that time, it seems like the Marines won 9/10 games. It was rather frustrating to constantly loose, but all I wanted to play was the Aliens. After both getting better at the game, and patches being released, I finally got to where I didn't have a 1/10 kill/death ratio. I'm much better now. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Edit : It's also worth mentioning that I kept trying to evolve to a Skulk, not knowing what you spawned as. Thankfully, someone pointed me in the right direction.
I followed the mod for some months before its release, and having been a fan of the alien team in Gloom, eagerly anticipated the moments I would enjoy waiting along the ceiling for some meat-pops to come by.
Halloween night I shut off all the lights and dressed up like a skulk.
For those who were there with me, I think you all remember how it was. Spectacular, amazing, all the things you ever imagined it could be, yet the ping spikes and flawed resource model kill the memory in retrospect.
Still, I couldn't possibly imagine any other way I'd want to have spent my Halloween night. The wait was <i>so</i> worth it.
-Ryan!

i am a newbie... i am a n00b my first game of NS sucked... that may have been because i was the commander and there was only one other person playing and he was kicking my **** but hey...
the first game i remember was as the only alien on nancy.
i went gorge and and wandered around completely lost.
i eventually came across a res node (i had rtfm) and sat on top of it to build the res tower.
stuck
noo
i also remember as a gorge not realising the use key onf builindg, so i would sit there for ages watching it build, thinking that if i left it would stop. :S
"Hey Scorpion!," Yelled my Auburn University gamer companion Solo, "You've gotta try this game called Natural Selection"
"What is it?" I asked.
"A half-life mo.." Starts Solo.
I interrupted with the typical overblown response, "Phhhh... you know good and well I hate counterstrike with a vengance. A quarter of the players are meth users, another quarter lame-*** hacker wannabes, a third quarter are brain washed idiots who honestly believe it's the best game in the world bar-none, a further eighth joined a CS server by mistake, a sixteenth only play because that's all their friends will play with them, and the rest actually genuinely enjoy the game but understand why it's not THAT good. And you know the people pointing to the number of PCPs only futher..."
"Calm down, it's not a CS clone. It's like...ehh...AvP and some RTS elements like Starcraft." Quickly blurted by Solo.
"Oh, in that case... I'll try it." quoth the Scorpion who was already downloading it (gotta give every game it's due). At that time it was V1.02
Entered a game, random server. My friend Solo was with me. We were Marines. Apparently the marines were not having a good time; 2 hives just went up and fades were starting to trickle in. I'd love to say I made the difference, and won the game. (phhhh...yeah right.) I did however spawn right on top of a heavy machinegun. Me and a jealous Solo made out way through several dark spooky corridors. I was ripping through everything in our path with liberal use of the HMG, often shooting a corpse for a few seconds before declaring it "dead" due to paranoia.....for about 2 minutes....until we met our first fade without assistance or HMG ammo. We realised after death that we were the only ones left alive at that time, our small base had been removed within thirty seconds of our leaving. I laughed to no end.
Seeking to calm down from the adrenaline high, I decided to play aliens. Solo had other things to do. Due to my long stint in AvP (the original one with the uber fast drones) playing alien I picked up skulking rather quickly, though I felt the controls while wall-walking were awkward. We won the game with onos charging and fades buggy blinking. I never did morph from skulk though. The very next one we lost but I developed a love for the lerk, though I'l still not too great at using one.
Now for the people that need a bit of help with the lingo.
CS = Counterstrike or Counter Strike depending on hom much you care. If you dunno what CS is...I'd be very interested in how you got to this forum. For those that don't know, it's a first person shooter in which you play the role of a Terrorist or a Counter-Terrorist. One sets a bomb, one stops the bomb. One takes hostages, one frees hostages. It's highly logical. It's based on the half-life engine so many computers can run it, and I think there is a conspiracy as to why it's so popular, but afraid to type it up for fear I'm right and would be killed.
PCPs = Professional Counterstrike Players. AKA: The guys who waste 9/10ths of their existance studying and perfecting every possible method of play...in Counterstrike, thus being "professionals." They eat, drink, sleep, and wet themselves over this particular game and others who wish to justify CS as the "greatest game ever" simply point to PCPs and the amount of them. Named PCPs by me, due to humor and my own warped logic.
AvP = Alien versus Predator original, not AvP2. If you've never played an alien doing a death-roll through a hallway in the original AvP you don't know speed (nor motion sickness for the weak stomached) Everything in this game is geared to make the human players scream. It's a "must try."

Bah, deal with it. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
The first game I played had me turn into a gorge me getting terribly lost outside nameless hive. (I read the manual already) I built an RT and I built it on myself, but I didn't know... I thought building forced you to stay there until it was complete, so I stood there waiting for the RT to build by itself. When it was finally done, I asked people why I couldn't move. "Type kill you're stuck."
Hehe, I remember my first game... As marines: I woke up to an onos running about my base, only to see it die instantly at the hand of about 50 turrets, along with me shooting it. I could only stay about 5 minutes, had to do chores. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> Although later I killed a fade on bast, just sitting on the ladder, spraying acid upon us. Heh, I remember another one of my first games, I spawned and got a jp, lol, I thouhgt everyone could jump like that. I also used to think that the lmg looked cool instead of the hmg, I got HA and wanted to use lmg instead of the hmg.
As aliens: Well, on my first game, I had no idea how to get ugrades such as carapace, and I thought skulk was another evolution. Of course, when I tried going skulk, it didn't work. I went gorge instead, along with about 2 other gorges. I built a res tower at maintenance, on ns_hera. I also built an offense chamber. I was then told to go skulk, and I did so. I then happily rushed to their base, uknowingly not knowing that the marines lived there, where I died a horrible death.
my first game (the one I consider my first) lasted more than 8 hours on a server we managed to convince someone to let us use as our personal little space
We had adjusted the server so that the old resource bug that was in effect wouldn't be as much of a problem, so that while marines till got boatloads of resources, we had the entire World slowed to a crawl in terms of REsource Gain, causing games to be a half hour to hour anyway
then we played.... for 8 hours
I don't even remember who won
I just remember the excitement of playing it for 8 hours, the losing and gaining of territory, the sheer amount of time it went on for, all the different things, it was insane
It would also serve as a basis to a guild that would be established from some of the members of that game
I hope that when 1.1 comes out, I can get that same sense of something fresh, new, never played before, and that is an absolute blast
With out having to steal someones p4 2.5 ghz Windows Server and say "you can't even run a spreadsheet or we lag" and slow down the game to somethign slower than a baby yet faster than grass growing

Leme tell ya.. it's fun to play like that... for about 1 game.. then I hop on my nice, new althon XP system, with a g4, and a ton of ram.. and I play with some nice 72 fps action....*prolly could get more*
However, I remember the first time I was part of a HA train, pounding the aliens back across the map. It was the inspiration for one of my first NS models - the Death Squad HA reskin.
<span style='font-size:7pt;line-height:100%'>[edit]Gee, 3rd edit[/edit]</span>
I had paged trough manual because it took about hour to download NS at the time. My friend had told me something about the game, but mostly comments like "It is cool game, try it."
So I knew there were aliens and I did know general appearance of all things.
All this but I wasn't prepared at all for the game. <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->
<!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

i think my games as a newb were lots of fun for me. i kept getting lost in the maps that seemed huge and never-ending. i was just walking around, getting lost, and getting killed all the time <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
<!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
i downloaded the manual and read a decent chunk...but it did not help much
mostly the forums have helped more.
i joined a server....i felt daring...and i joined aliens
what a rush.
I found that despite getting killed very often, I would have these magical moments where
I would eat a small platoon of soldiers. Each one i would take down caused the others to fire
more erradically. Noting the marines were freaked out...I started to play on this not necessily
concentrating on one marine at a time but taking a bite out of each and then running away.
after several days of playing i finally started to use parasite and upgrades.
My first game ever was on MISSLE COMMAND. Imagine seeing skulks flying down and chomping you. THAT was a surprise.
After that it was normal map, but I got lost all the time, and I couldn't tell the difference between a nozzle and a hive, jeese.
"WTH" i said. it are lerks, small flying aliens, they do not have much armor and health so don't worry about them. wait for them to stop flying and then shoot. as we neared the circle my mentor got killed in action, i got his shotgun and started firing at the enemys, i managed to kill them and started to feel though. i progressed in a room with some lit that had smoke coming out of it and one thing that seemed to suck something out of it.
suddenly i saw a green fat fourlegged pig-like thing coming towards me. i ran for cover as it spitted some green stuff to me. immediatly i knew what it was,
IT HAD TO BE A ONOS.
immediatly i yelled: ONOS ONOS. i had to quickly build some round thing.strange, the onos did not come to me for some reason. as soon as i builded it, a sqaud of teammys cladded in thick armor and with big guns came trough, they stormed in saying things like: ILL KNIFE THAT FAT COW. and shot the onos, suddenly they looked around and asked, where is the onos?
END

:}
i remember my first game of NS. forget what map it was, but when i spawned in, a group of marines were circled around a strange building, and in my rememberance of reading the manual, i figured out it was the ammo dispenser. this in itelf had me well pleased, as i had never played a game or mod that had me press "e" to grab my ammo. it felt great stocking up.
after we all loaded our weapons, we got a group of 'rines together to go out and (as i thought) take out a hive or something. little did i know, when i spawned in the aliens already had three hives and were wasting us. but oblivious to this fact, i merrily trodded down the hall with the platoon, feeling great about such a great team-oriented game.
our first encounter was an onos.
two marines rounded a corner, and as fast as they did that they came bookin back. i had no idea what was going on until i saw the beast. the marine standing next to me must not have had any common sense at all cuz he decided he was gonna wrestle with the hunk of flesh. i turned and ran with the other 2 fellows. behind us we could hear the pounding of the onos's tusk against the armor of our comrade, to be followed soon after by the clank of his weapons to the ground. none of us turned around and ran to the best of our "w" smashing ability but alas, to no avail. the onos quickly laid waste to our bodies.
after that i f4ed and joined the alien team so i could be one <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

The wait was <i>so</i> worth it.

death to marines btw
i went gorge and and wandered around completely lost.
i eventually came across a res node (i had rtfm) and sat on top of it to build the res tower.
stuck
noo
i also remember as a gorge not realising the use key onf builindg, so i would sit there for ages watching it build, thinking that if i left it would stop. :S
RTS = Real time Strategy, my 2nd favorite game genre. RPG comes in 1rst, D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) being #1 in that list.
Starcraft = The RTS typical Counterstrike junkies play but I'm not playing it down because it was a very good game for it's time.
TA = Total Annihilation, An RTS for RTS lovers. Not really mentioned, but I'm gonna plug it anywhoo.
