another example of a stupid rule is that in CS you must stand still when firing the AWP coz the game designers didn't see fit to make the crosshair move around and the bullet go to the crosshair instead of making the crosshair stay still while the bullets move around it. if it was a good game then people wouldn't have to tell newbies that rule; they would just assume it from seeing the crosshair waving around while they run.
in FLF i bet nobody would figure out by themselves that their accuracy increases when in a group and if they did see the pattern they'd probably say to themselves "no way, this can't be, this makes no sense" i thought FLF was supposed to be realistic. if that's the case then it isn't really good to always go in a group. haven't you seen Vietnam movies? what happens if they are all in a group and then one of them steps on a mine? HAH! why didn't they just leave that code out and if they did a few other things properly like have friendly fire then they'd probably find that people stay in groups anyway. one of the main reasons for staying in a group is so you can easily keep track of where your buddies are so you don't accidentally shoot them by thinking they are an enemy.

People stay in groups for the advantage in firepower, the sight advantage, the tactical diversity offered by each man (if one man has a slightly different bit of kit) and many. many more reasons. People dont group up simply so they dont shoot each other, or else in your case the entire army would have to move around in a 1700's style Line and block formation.

let me put it this way,
if you were playing as an alien, just hit f4 before the pain starts. ;-)
NS sure has come up big

don't diss CS if you've never played it.

that is a cheap hack. i don't like it. if you want to encourage grouping so they advance together in small teams you have to come up with a logical intuitive way to make that happen. i'm glad this was never implemented. i wouldn't play NS if it had game rules like this.
a rule like this is as bizarre as making the damage of bullets weaker in dark rooms to simulate that your aim is worse in the dark coz you can't see your target as well.

it is a stupid game rule coz it's AI code for like an RTS and that game has FPS, so simulation of emotions or other mind things is not supposed to have an effect on the character you're controlling because you are supposed to be in control of them. and it's stupid coz maybe in real life people's aim gets worse when they are in a group. and it's stupid coz it is illogical and counter-intuitive and players will not know that rule by just using their common sense, they will have to be told that rule which makes it kind of like an officially sanctioned cheat or exploit. in a good game things are supposed to work the way the player expects if they are smart and things that are new to the player like something sci fi they are supposed to realize they need to ask about it. in the case of FLF there is nothing strange that the player feels they need to ask about. so i think a lot of people lost in that game simply coz they didn't know about this stupid rule.
another example of a stupid rule is that in CS you must stand still when firing the AWP coz the game designers didn't see fit to make the crosshair move around and the bullet go to the crosshair instead of making the crosshair stay still while the bullets move around it. if it was a good game then people wouldn't have to tell newbies that rule; they would just assume it from seeing the crosshair waving around while they run.
in FLF i bet nobody would figure out by themselves that their accuracy increases when in a group and if they did see the pattern they'd probably say to themselves "no way, this can't be, this makes no sense" i thought FLF was supposed to be realistic. if that's the case then it isn't really good to always go in a group. haven't you seen Vietnam movies? what happens if they are all in a group and then one of them steps on a mine? HAH! why didn't they just leave that code out and if they did a few other things properly like have friendly fire then they'd probably find that people stay in groups anyway. one of the main reasons for staying in a group is so you can easily keep track of where your buddies are so you don't accidentally shoot them by thinking they are an enemy.
The aren't exactly the same, that was a very early screenshot after all and the weapon models have surely changed some, after all the weapon wasn't released in 1.0, so they must have made some changes for the 1.1 version.
