<div class="IPBDescription">Abusing voice-comm.....</div> The introduction of the voice communication system in a recent Half-life update is both a blessing and a horrible horrible curse.
True, while 95% of HL gamers use this system for good other's feel it is their right to abuse the system; be it unconsciously or deliberately. While the 12 year old AOL user truly does not appreciate the pure comedic value that is his pre-pubescent voice others are simply there to annoy the living crap out of us.
I myself have just returned from a server where I had to inconvenience myself and activate the mute button. Why?
Because 2 players decided to join a server and have a conversation they should have had on the phone or on IRC
The most I was able to discern from their wonderfully distracting conversation was:
"Wow. Do you remember her picture from Grade 2..."
I would like to say a big THANK YOU to the 2 following individuals:
<b>#inf ( Mraltz )
#inf ( Pieman )</b>
Not only did you little mother's meeting annoy the HELL out of the other 6 Kharaa players, you also forced us to help other users who didn't know how to turn mute on which cost us vital minutes in the round.
Am I being a little too antsy about this? Perhaps, but the fact of the matter is I don't join a server to talk about the weather or how pretty Janet's hair is. I come to play and it's idiots who don't even realise how ANNOYING they are is what cheeses me off.
I am so glad muting has been made simpler in 1.1.....

Should have told them off or went on to another server. I still can't get over the fact that they got on ns to talk to each other about this crap instead of play.
The last person that I muted decided that it was Natural-Selection karaoke night. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
If I were you there I would just join the conversation and talk about something completely different but as stupid as their subject of conversation.
I know what you mean...
Once this guy kept spamming seinfeild quotes. That was funny, for the first few minutes. But when he kept doing it, and doing it and doing it, and a friend of his joined in with counter quotes from seinfeild, the entire team had to mute them both (both were banned for voice spamming).
Of course, you also get the three year olds telling each other to shut up over the mic, or two people that must, nay, INSIST on talking at the same time as each other so you cant understand a word being said...
Put simply, everyone whom is anyone feels your pain...
"shot through the heart, and your dum dum, you give love a dum dah da de da oh my god im like so drunk that the room in NS is spinning, like how cool is that...its like when i was out tonight *Burp* and this person..............etc etc etc"
i may try to develope a breathalizer connected to the NS executable so if your too drunk your computer just says NO!
(of course i cannot claim to have never done it myself, well, actually, yes...i can)
ah the charecters you get late at night... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
I was about to say, usually when people do that their cool enough to stop after finding out the answer.

Some people don't care if they win or not, and chatting while they play a game of NS seems to them to be a perfectly good idea.
So that's why you can mute them, if you don't want to hear them. They have every right to talk. However, spamming is quite annoying, and that should always be banned.
Perhaps they should make the voice system work differently in that you can choose WHO you are sending your voice too... this would effectivly make it so you can just talk to your buddy over a game of NS without hearing 10 other players complain about it first.

It says "<i>Congress</i> shall make no law...". Server admins are not congress; therefore they are not bound by that law. Neither are Forum Admins.
Others are the chatterboxes who just can't shut up and have to give a running commentary on every darn thing they do, where they are, when they are being attacked, screaming when they die and so on.
PLEASE only use voice com when you have something useful to say. When you're desperately trying to listen for the sound of skulk footsteps you don't want to listen to some asshat waffling on about their favourite band, or trying to be amusing by screaming "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh" every few seconds when they're chomped/shot.
Occasionally, this gets out of hand but i force my self to stop after the 20th complaint <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
i dont consciously do it, we in =X= are just v.gd mates.

And that's exactly why they have every right to talk, unless the server admin doesn't want them to.
Honestly, we do have a god dang mute button... what's the problem? Don't like them? MUTE THEM.
Also, I think my idea of choosing who you can talk to is a pretty nifty idea.
was playing on a server with 12 people. After the first game 8 stayed in the ready room (not sure what they were doing ) while 4 of us played the game for 30 min
Which prevented any one else (who wanted to play ) from joining the server <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->

Tea that annoys me. Thats y I like admins to force people to at least specate or to join a team or get kicked.
Servers arnt for making them your private chat room.
As an aside, that's an interesting thought. Someone could easily make a half-life mod which was designed specifically do *be* a private chat room. Maybe it's even been done already?
Imagine if it was set up so the map was a reasonable model of your club, office, school or whatever. People from around the world could hold meetings there, using it as a form of virtual reality, chatting to each other over voice-com without the cost of international phone calls.
PS. if you do this, I want royalites! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
1) The idiot who constantly plays music
2) The jackass who never shuts up, like someone said before.. they walk around describing everything they do.
3) The person who thinks he's being funny and doesn't shutup.
4) The person who was funny.. for the first few minutes and then beats a dead horse into the ground.
5) The guy who talks about himself and never shuts up.
6) The guy whose not comm, but thinks he's comm, and then calls everyone a dumb <random expletive> for not listening to him.
7) The girl who won't shutup because the guys on the team won't let her. (Or she doesn't want to)
8) The people who use NS (Ready room or game) as a chatroom
I'm sure I could think of a few more, but they'd get even more watered down.
I think you should be able to chat a little but if someone complains u either type or tell em later, games are more fun if you feel like your playing with humans that you can talk and interact with, rather than advanced bots.
The servers should be a place for fun for all not just an auditorial playground for all the bloody gimps with voicecomms.

One other thing; How do we mute someone in game? I always thought there was no way to do so... <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo-->

Hold down your score board and then click mouse to bring up curser, then click on the annoying ones name.
This works in all mods. However there is sometimes a glitch with NS where it doesnt work. I m pretty sure it will be fixed in 1.1
One time there was this kid and as we were playing Nancy and he started asking for DCs nonstop and asking when he could be fade because fade is the bestest, , so we muted him. A little later in the game he types, "OMG! How come you guys didn;t give me backup in Messhall. I kept asking and asking." We then told him, we muted his **** in the beginning of teh game.

I have played with these people before. They should always be muted. As a rule.
