Lerk is fun
It's a versatile class and, with skill, can win in almost any situation. Plus it's good for dodging bullets and getting away fast.

And as an occasional fade I KNOW how much a lerk contributes simply by standing near me and spewing umbra.

Lerks give umbra cover for fades under base assaults.
I usually use the adrenaline upgrade, cuz then i can make LOT of ubmbra or/and still have energy to fly or shoot, it's very effective

Umbra and Spores. Lerks are like the post-apocalyptic "bean burrito" reprocessing gas bombers. I wish MY gas stopped bullets...

I chose the lerk because it was unlike anything I had ever seen before. What initially caught my interest was the way you control its flight. You have a lot more control over lerk flight then JP flight. I just found it fun to fly around everywhere and not even engage marines. Spikes were good for a while, but what really solidified my love for the lerk was bite. It just feels so cool swooping down from up high and taking out a target. Umbra is nice, and spores were alright...mainly just used them at the end of the game to get a bunch of kills fast.

Many people are probably trying to master the lerk's abilities as well, since it's probably the hardest alien to learn to use effectively. Also, as others have said, being able to fly, eat marines, and use poo gas is pretty fun as well.
Though IMO, the fatty is the funnest of them all...too bad there can only be one most of the time. Ah well, looking forward to 1.1 multiple fatty love.

Been said before.
I like the Lerk because you play a valuable role in supporting assaulting Fades in Umbraing the vicinity. Sometimes spiking away a badly guarded TF phasegate, or simply distracting Marine forces by spiking stuff that would get destroyed wouldnt the COMM send troops to save it.
I LOVE the Lerk for having the spore cloud

A lerks umbra will save your hives from a Jp/HMG rush if you get a second hive up that is.

I simply find the lerk the most interesting class to play. I rarely go fade unless the team desperately needs them. As a lerk I escort Fades and provide umbra support or simply go on biting sprees.

Best Lerk Moment:

We lost our last hive. I was hanging out by a defense chamber on the bridge that runs across the top of the viaduct hive. (NS Nothing)

Not wanting to drag the game out for my teammates, I decided to make one final stand.

I jumped off from the bridge with a quick flap or two and zoomed directly down on top of an unfortunate marine. I was able to finish him off with a few quick chomps before his teammates nailed me.

I havn't had a chance to pull off a dive-bomb maneuver like that since. I'd love to have seen how it looked from the marine?s perspective.

Dive bombs from ns_nothing (viaduct hive, top bridge) bring back so many lerking memories. I used to go gorge...build 3 defense chambers up top, then go lerk and stop marines from taking over viaduct the entire game. That’s where I really found out how amazing bite was. Diving off the top ledge and swooping down right next to a marine chomping him, and fly back up before I get shot from another marine. Now you think spikes are ownage, try doing those dives. Once you kill a few ppl that way I guarantee you will change you’re mind about bite.

Experiment with bite b4 u diss it. Anyways I'm out. Good luck chompin' the marines

I like the lerk simply because it is the most versatile class. The skulk has its moments, but the ability to fly simply makes the lerk a killing machine. And then umbra get thrown in the mix, not only can you dodge the bullets, but stop them in their tracks!! Talk about unstoppable. (The lerk, not the bullets =p)

Best moment as a lerk:

Hiding in corner after corner in Engine room hive on ns_bast and spiking a marine once every 30 seconds just to keep 4 of them pinned down looking for me.

Worst moment as a lerk:

Getting knifed out of the air while retreating from a base assualt on ns_eclipse. That marine won bragging rights for the next 5 games....

Well, for me, they have the best line up. Spikes are great for sniping solo marines from unreachable places (i.e. top of Power Silo hive - it's hilarious the way the marine will keep spinning around, desperately wondering where the pain is coming from), and Umbra + Bite are lethal to LA marines. Add to that the rather cool flight system, allowing you to fly by so fast and kill so fast the enemy thinks you've been fired out of a bat-launcher, and you have a winner.

I like going Lerk cause it's a real teamplayer-class When everyone else goes fade (that is when 2 hives are up), i usually go lerk. Unless im feeling very evil and wanna swipe marines as a fade
So i just gather up some fades and get them to attack a marine position, and protect them with umbra while they do little work of the marines. I also like to fire spikes as support, just to add even more damage..

Just makes me feel better

Lerk is a damned good class for its price. Too good, in fact. The only reason why I support removing lerk bite in 1.1 is because lerks are better killing machines than Fades are at ANY hive, and it's because of bite. Removing bite balanced the lerk, making it more of a support role, laying down supressive fire (by spikes or spores) instead of the uber-killingmachine it is in 1.04. The lerk has an incredibly small hitbox. And unless you have a shotgun or hmg it's damned near impossible to kill a good carapaced lerk. It's so EASY to just fly in, bite, and fly out. And when you get umbra, you're killingmachine * 2.

I choose lerk sometiems when all 3 hives are up

but thats only if i have less kills per death. Im not a statwhore or anythign i just dont like having less kills per death it makes me feel pathetic.

so when u own the marines base i just spore it and get a heap of kills..

ugh, lerks are not better killing machines then fades. Unless your comparing a skilled lerk to a nub fade. In 1.04 fades are usually required to win. An army of lerks could be taken out really quickly by HMG fire. Kill wise, I usually find it tough to keep up with fades. I hope you know that by taking out bite and putting spores in its place will make the lerk less supportive and there will be a ton of kill-hogs. So as for the 1.04 lerk being overpowered, you are completely wrong. If anything the 1.1 lerk will be overpowered due to its easiness. At least in order to bite you were required to practice. I guess that's ok for your pub games but in competitive play this 1.1 lerk will not cut it.

The 1.04 lerk made a perfect hive guard. Since the 1.1 lerk cant kill quickly anymore what class will we use for hiveguard?
skulk <-- to weak
fade <-- cannot hide, plus it had better things to do.
onos<-- lol, by the time u get an onos your hive will already be gone.

The problem with yesterday's lerk argument is that I was thinking in terms of match play not the average pub.

Hmnn.. I love the lerk for one reason and that reason is "spores". Theres nothing quite as nice as smoking marines out of a defened location with the spores of doom.

in 1.04 add silence to a lerk and as long as you can use your energy effectivly you got the ultimate biting machine, able to move quickly and silently in all directions.

of course this is only really fun against green rines, pros will take you out too fast without umbra, but when you can, you should stalk some newbies and discover the best aspect (imho) of NS.
*note* offer valid only untill 1.1 when 'sadly' (?) youll no longer be able to swoop in for dramatic bites.

just once again, for those with short term memory problems, silence + lerks + bite = fun!
