What Brought You Into Ns?

Feel free to use this thread as a bio of sorts. Fill in your reply with 1.)Why you chose NS 2.)What aspects about NS are most appealing and 3.)Past gaming interests and why.

-----------------------------------------

For me
-------------

1.)I chose NS on accident, thinking it was just "another" mod for half-life. I had exepcted the worst and it DEFINATELY proved me otherwise.

2.)I like NS for the classic Man VERSUS Alien genre. I especially enjoy The great way the team did it.

3.) I've been playing video games since my Atari. From there I went to Nintendo, all except gamecube. My favorites were ALL the mario games except 2, which was an atrocity in my book, Starfox64 and Mario64 were also good. Then, I got a computer. From there I played Warcraft 2, Starcraft, and arguably the best game/storyline EVER- Final Fantasy 7. After a sweet long addiction to that, I played a lot of mechwarrior games. Still do. From there on, I accidently picked up Half-Life at K-Mart 3 years ago. After figuring it out and 72 hours of single player. I went to Team-Fortress classic. After that, Discovered "MODS" My first was Counter-Strike, and after 2 years of embarassment, quitting was enevitable.

After Counter-Strike I stumbled upon "Science And Industry" and became OBSESSED with it. So much that I became what I saw as a regular on their forums. Got ripped on a lot, so I quietly went away. From there I tinkered around with different mod. Last june I fell upon Natural-Selection, my new favorite game.

I was reading a article somewhere about mods, and how games are being built so they can really easily modded, and they had a quote from flayra and a link, i read about it and thought, wow.

Many of my friends were raving about it about 6 months ago, ignored it, looked on the pcgamer discs about it, ignored it again.
Then after suffering a year of UO I thaught what the hell, lets give it a go...
I downloaded it, and seeign as I could only find a sucky link (took me ages) I read the manuals while I was waiting.
I was thinking "Umm WTH is this?? meh??"
I loaded it up when it finished downloading, then toyed around on my own "lan server". I worked out how the menu worked, how to build stuff, evolve and everything, and that skulks could wallclimb.

I then connected to a server and spectated. I saw aliens....TALKING.
the line of dialogue was somethign like this:

"weee look i can fly!! can you fly? no!! but I can!!"
    "Weeeee 50 armour"

I thaught it was hilarious seeing these freaky aliens talking in perfectly clear english voices . After watching a few games, I joined the alien team, and skulked around for a bit.

I fell in love with the playstyle, and it went well from there.

One of my roommates had found it. I watched him play it for a month or so knowing that I needed to get school stuff done and once I installed the game I wouldnt do as much homework. So I waited for a month and then I couldnt hold out anymore.

I installed NS and have been playing since then. I love NS, its always a great game. Its a lot better than the other crap mods out there I hate CS, I mean come on NS has tatics that are worth while..

I don't remember. I think I just found a link among the numerous comments on csnation, which brought me here and I thank whoever posted that link very very much.

i saw it in PC Gamer UK, it had an excelent review so i thought i would give it a go since i was board of DOD and CS.

I actualy quit, then tried again the next day. I fell in love with it.

unfortunatly i dont play as much now becuase its hard to find a decent british server.

I came across NS via my ex-CS clan because one of the members posted about it and recommended it as the best half-life mod in existence. At the time i was heavily addicted to CS and was convinced i would play NS, be disappointed and put it down never to play again, but i was completely mistaken.

The beautiful textures and map size/layout was the first thing that caught my eye. The next thing i was very impressed with, and perhaps the thing that made me stay with the game and want to learn how to play properly was how 56k friendly it is. On CS i would always get over 200 ping and lag harshly but with NS it's a joy to play and i get under 160 ping at times.

A week or so later and i got to grips with the gameplay, NS became my number 1 game. I rarely play CS nowadays.

A British gaming magazine (PC Gamer I think, or possibly PC Zone) had an indepth article about it plus the game itself on their cover DVD. I thought it sounded fantastic so I installed it and fell in love with it ever since!

I love the RTS aspects and the fact that it forces teamwork on people. Plus map design, fun upgrades, the fact you can play as different aliens, etc.

I only started playing a couple of years ago and only PC games really. My friend introduced me to Half- Life and...well...that got me hooked!

    1) Because it seemed like very different from other mods and the developer team is so talented. Also the nice community really helped to adapt.

    2) Difference of Kharaa and Marine teams and the idea of Commander mode. Well polished.

    3) I started playing with Commodore64, moved on to Nintendo 8-bit and then onwards to 386, 486, pentiums etc. etc. Lately I've tried to cath up people with games that are practically have-to-know aka new classics. I already mowed through Star Craft and I'm currently playing Fallout 2. Now I'm determined to find System Shock 2 as a cheapy.

    Not the PR!11!!

I admit that I, also, was a victim of the excellent PR

    1) I downloaded and started playing NS the day it was publically released. The day after, actually. Fine...anyways, I discovered it on PlanetHalfLife, not surprisingly. I immediately went to the site and spent the next few days straight playing it

    2) Come on. Could I really give any other answer than this? The Gorge. 'Nuff said.

3)I would have to say that my first real gaming experience was on the good ol' NES. Duck Hunt, baby! From there, I really didn't play much other than that, until I got my Sega Genesis. i was positively OBSESSED with that thing. My favorite game? Vectorman . The next thing I bought was a Nintendo 64. This baby kept me enthused for quite some time, despite the mediocre software releases. I honestly didn't BUY many ames, so it wasn't truly a problem for me. Next, I discovered the Holy Grail that was half-Life, and the intarweb. After beating HL, I quickly moved on to CS. I've been playign ever sense. *dons riot shield and cowers*

You.....you guys aren't gonna attack me? Oh thank God... Anywho, I dabbled in many online games, including Starcraft, WC2, Diable 2, etc. This was when I got....the Dreamcast. God I wuv that little thing. i call it "the little white box that could." next up for me was the....the...X-box. Ewwwww. I said it.

    Biggest. Mistake. Evar.

I ended up buying it for the pure joy of Halo, and havn't really found many games that enthuse me yet. Of course, I wouldn't touch a PS2 with a 10-foot pole, so I naturally wanted a Gamecube (and still viciously DO, as a matter of fact). I continued this vicious cycle stated above. Well, mostly a Diablo-cycle, actually. Actually, ONLY a Diablo-cycle . Then I found NS. Oh glorious NS, hallowed be thy name. The one thing that broke this hopeless addict away from Diablo. The rest is history

    1) A friend was telling me about it on the phone, he had just played it that day. It sounded so good that I downloaded it immidietly, I wasn't dissapointed.

    2) Everything. It's not CS. It's much better than CS. CS sucks.

    3) Nintendo, and later PS2

My Half-Life mod veteran buddy told me about this. I didn't even download NS until a couple weeks later because I was so lazy and I thought it would be another cheap mod. I regret doing that.

I did very similar, playing SI religiously for a good couple of months before I found NS. I probably wouldnt have left, but many SI players seem to have an extreme dislike for anyone new. Its probably the reason why their mod isnt too popular, I know a lot of people who didnt feel it had the right kind of community to keep their interest.

Exactly, thats why I hope if NS because tomarrows counter-strike, (In the sense of popularity, cult-following, and extreme regard for the skill of the devs) that the COMMUNITY retains its current behavior. Another case of power-to-the-people. I couldn't resist, MonsE can peddle PR, I peddle my own brand of hot soup. TA DA! Anyway. Seriously, Community failure= death to mod. We are the blood of Natural-Selection....let us not fall...

I saw it somewhere so I came to the site and i thought it looked pretty cool. Although I had to wait like a year for the game. I kept checking back on the site and then one day they said it would be released soon. I d/l it the first day it came out and the rest is history.

I like the whole concept of the game and the mix of a RTS and FPS.
