<div class="IPBDescription">omg</div> I just read on planethalf-life that theres a NS singleplayer version being worked on. <a href='http://spns.thehivemind.org/' target='_blank'>http://spns.thehivemind.org/</a> this is so own.
Come on everyone throw a penny into a wishing well and wish for me to win the Storyline <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> You have to Steve cause we played together <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> But we have just begun. A few textures, a map, and a concept is really all we have. This 11th the storyline will be decided and then major work will begin on Singleplayer NS. I reccomend you join the forums early so you can call yourself "Old Skool." <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Go check out the <u>BEGINNING</u> of my story. It's called Colony 9. It's a port of an unfinished fan fic of mine. Come on! We need to have these boards crowded so I can beat the masses down with my admin stick. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
So...singleplayer ns. Hmm...sounds fun. Remember to give player the possibility to play both sides and Commander <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
*Stares blankly at Nem* I sure hope Amckern did cos I sure as hell didn't. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Will be interesting to see how this would work, provided it gets the goahead from Flayra. Will be fun to play a SP game as a skulk <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> (in theory).
Then you might want to do that quickly. This is not meant to sound mean, but Flayra put two years of his life into the intellectual property you're basing things on here - ask yourself, how would you react in his situation?

no body knows that.. but well, its just an addon, there are copyright problems with addons, and flayra should know since a long time were doing it.. and.. amckern???
but well, id say, just work on it, when flayra thinks its crap we just dont release it, if he likes it, then everything is ok.. its easy, not?
Nope, they didn't, as far as I know. I've said it before, I'll say it again. This is a BAD idea...
1. Intellectual Property 'theft'. If you do it without permissions, its theft. Even if you get permission, you're still making Flayra's world your own.
2. Workload. It doesn't seem like anyone has a clue how huge this project will be if its to work. AI alone will be huge.
3. Quality. Flayra and a good number of others are professionals in the game industry. NS is a retail strength product. Even if you DO pull this off, I doubt it will match NS' quality.
I'd LOVE to see NS single player, but as an actual single player game, designed to BE single player, set in the world of NS. Making a Metamod plugin so you can play a multiplayer game by yourself seems really, really stupid.
Theres a difference between being a pessimist and being a realists.
Realists use logic in deducing there conclusions. Logically, this project has snowballs chance. Why?
-Immature dev team. Not personality wise, but skill wise. How many people on it have seen projects of this size or even close to this size get completed. -Unprofessional approach. You didn't get Flayra's permission to use HIS ideas and HIS game? -Unrealisitic expectations. Saying "it'll be a lot of hard work" doesn't acknowledge exactly how difficult this is. You can't whisk away problems just by saying "I'll give it 110%!" This isn't an eighties movie.
I have to agree with Jammer, what is your qualifications other then some amature mapping experience? I am just as "qualified" as you to do this, what ever it is your trying to do.
Well, if you guys actually <i>read</i> the thread, you'd see that (according to one of the team members), Flayra has no problem with this. This most DEFINITELY hints that Flayra has no plans for SP at this moment in time, so what's the harm?
And jammer. While I agree with you on many of your points, you ARE forgetting that this is a completely optional thing.
A) It will never be packaged into an official release B) This isn't a life-or-death thing.
I can tell you now that I plan on checking it out, regardless of my moral and logical feelings about the entire deal. Otherwise, I'd like for everyone to reserve judgement until a finished product is in hand. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
This will never reach completion. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
i think this is a great thing. they may be an immature dev team, but at least they're not sitting on their **** all day posting how pwnzor it would be if there was an NS single player.... and i also heard that Flayra said he didn't care...
i hope all goes well for you guys. look for me in the forums! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
If we assume for a second that Flayra didn't give his permission, how exactly would this project violate his intellectual property?
It would be an add-on with original maps you install into your NS folder, which in itself is freely distributable. The NS artwork would be used, not copied. As for the name, it doesn't need to reference any trademarked terms, even if a term as common in everyday life as "Natural Selection" is a valid courtproof trademark. And if any of the accused is not resident of the USA, things get even more difficult.
Intellectual property is a very muddy thing to begin with because the concept of owning ideas has little foothold in reality. It's more or less a lawyer's invention to protect Disney's Mickey Mouse.
Legalities aside, a look at the website didn't inspire confidence into this project. It seems they don't even know the difference between a story and a plot.
