When You Download Ns 2.0

help out the community!
put it on your favorite P2P network. kazaa, or what have you. even limit the upload so that it doesn't impact your NS too much. maybe add 10-30 latency. but it'll result in faster distrubution of this much sought after client file!

help out the community and let other ppl P2P it off ya.

i know i will.

cheers!

The least intrusive way to do this is with official bittorrent links, instead of making people use the absolutely **** **** p2p clients/networks.

well, I was actually thinking that maybe if they can release it in the morning, I'll d/l it directly to my shared folder, and then I have to work so it'd be on my fav file sharing proggy (kazaa) all day long!

Yeah, I'm most definately sharing it on Kazaa. Make sure you give it proper keywords, descriptions, name, and integrity rating, nubs.

Damn fine plan. Unless it gets nixed from above, I'll have it up on p2p once i have it. (file)share the love...

heheh, yeah, but the most popular, and most user friendly, is P2P networks. Kazaa Lite isn't _that_ bad.

ok, i'm an utter and total nub. check my last points to see my nubness.

for some reason, my "BEST EVAR 23 TURRENT" strategy was VERY poorly received.

soo, couldya enlighten a nub on how to do what you mentioned? i just put it in the kazaa shared folder....

***WARNING***

If you are going to download NS v2.0 FROM KAZAA or any P2P program that can't be trusted, MAKE SURE YOU SCAN THE FILE BEFORE EXECUTING IT. This is for your own safety. I know you guys want to be helpful and all but kazaa and other P2P program users have been known to include viruses and trojans along with popular exe files. SO BEWARE@!!!

If you share on Kazaa all morning you won't be able to play it.

Yeah we wouldn't wat that 50% of the ns players out there get some trouble with thei comps just because some freaking lamer decides to have some "fun".

Is bit torrent always slow, or is just that all the files I have ever downoaded were from russia?
• ZekZek Join Date: 2002-11-10 Member: 7962Members, NS1 Playtester, Constellation, Reinforced - Shadow
Frankly I doubt that Kazaa will ever be faster for getting 2.0 than just downloading it from a mirror, unless a LOT of people share it.
• Dr_AwkwardDr_Awkward Join Date: 2002-11-20 Member: 9395Members
The speed of bittorrent depends on the number of users that are currently handling the file. So the more ppl downloading, the more who are also available to upload, which means that you're more likely to be less hops away from someone you can download from. Also, you are asked to leave the window open after downloading so that others can get the file from you, so if many people do that, the speed goes up marvellously. I often get 100-200 kbps downloads for popular bittorrent links.

If someone knows how to set up a torrent link, please do so and post it on these forums once the file becomes available. I'd be happy to download from a torrent, and help out the community by doing so.

You guys can do all the file sharing crap you want, but for the safety of my comp, I'll gladly take a mirror anyday.

As for bit torrent, I don't have it or use it, so mirror it is for me.
• HauntedHaunted Join Date: 2003-03-01 Member: 14178Members
When a file first comes out, bittorrent all the way. There's so many people downloading and uploading the file that the speed is insane. Case in point, any new episodes for redvsblue.

Weeks later, a mirrior is more reliable for getting your file.

I'll be using bittorrent, rather than spyware ridden kazaa, on launch day.

Ah, I suppose I'll share it once I download it from a mirror. Even though I have a 1.5mbps downstream all my P2P downloads usually hover around 20kbps to 120kbps. My normal downloads stay at a steady 50-150kbps, which really sucks considering the downstream speed I supposedly have. I'm off to track down the guy who said his download manager keeps his downloads up around 700kbps...

bt would be better than kazaa i know some jackass out there will rename some sheep porn to 2.0exe on kazaa.

i just trust bt more than kazaa

If you download kazaa lite, it has no spyware. I dont use my kazaa lite though for the fear od viruses. My freind got the kletz just from downloading a 1 song threw kazaa.

The virus took over its whole harddrive and he had to wipe it clean.

Im too afraid to wipe my HD, hence i dont use kazaa alot.....

well, since my computer scans twice a day and updated daily for viruses, and it's going to a partition that includes nothing but kazaa shares, I'm not too worried. BT is a little hared to set up, and I'll be getting mine from a mirror anyways.

when it starts up, go to the butten "my kazaa lite" find the file (should be under software or other), and right click and do properties. there you go, name the file, give it keywords, rate it, etc

Just downloaded BitTorrent, figured I'd try it out... How exactly are we supposed to find what we're looking for(like, for example, 2.0 on release day) this way?
• JammerJammer Join Date: 2002-06-03 Member: 728Members, Constellation
BitTorrent is the way to go :-)
I beleive Comprox (or another mod) said he did a test of BT and loved it, so he'd try to get a BT release. It was in a previous BT thread.

Kazaa-lite is the best p2p network.
Hooks up to the Kazaa/Grokster/Morpheus network.
NO SPYWARE/ADWARE. (thank heavens)
Hides your ip and files from scanners (RIAA)
Has AVI preview (that actually works)
as well as built in search and download accelerators.

http://www.kazaalite.tk/

You can thank me later.

BitTorrent is also fine, but mostly underground and more foreign material than one likes.

And yes, I will also be sharing NS 2.0.

you could just use the edonkey network if you are worried about someone altering the file, put in the folder, get the ed2k link, and share away, a good edonkey client is overnet, its "serverless" and so can connect to about anyone on the ed2k network, i'll be sharing it on overnet which means edonkey and emule users wont be able to connect, but someone else could share on emule so those users can find it. and how is it virus proof some may ask, well i dont know, but its hash file or whatever its called should only match up to the correct files.

70+ mirrors, guys. Don't sweat it.

BTW, setting up a bittorrent tracker is much harder than most of you think. Downloading and sharing is easy, but there has to be a central computer that tracks clients. Running a tracker also sucks up a fair amount of CPU time and bandwidth. Sharing, however, encurs little overhead.

70 mirrors? Shouldn't be too bad, then. And for you geniuses with kazaa who are worried about viruses, I suggest enlightening yourself on today's lesson.

::START LESSON::

Hello boys and girls. Today we're going to talk about viruses. Viruses are bad, Mmmmkay? So, to stop Viruses, we used what is called an Anti-Virus. Now, since we have this neat little program like kazaa that lets us download anything you've ever heard of or had the time to think about, why don't we download ourselves a fresh copy of Norton Antivirus 2003 Professional with a free complimentary one year subscription to virus updates. That way we can get rid of all those nasty viruses, Mmmmkay? Remember, boys and girls, be safe, not stupid!!
