Default Players Tired Of The Same Old ?

camo ?
im in a posting mood atm so i thought id try something i thought of last night. quite probably been discussed loads or something like that but anyway.

Without seeming to cs-like i thought it would be nice to have some small distinctions within the armour of an alien or a marine which is a chosen colour. like cs has the 4 different skins for both ct and t , how about niches in the armours of ns have hints of red blue green and yellow ?? or maybe just an overall tint on the model ??

It may even help with the believablity of the ns universe ?? its not often you see a whole army of a race which is perfectly identical in every detail. Surely the kharaa would have different broods with seperate colouring for distinction, and TSA with different sections and their own colours. (without trying to seem too 40k-like). but thats kinda what this is starting to feel like. the general modeling is a cross between starcraft and 40k , which isnt a bad thing. its just, in those 2 there were more defining attributes towards the models which just added a nice touch imo.

anyway, its something to ponder on and discuss maybe ??

Actually I was thiking about this earlier, whereas cs has 4 different skins for each side to choose from ns had a single outfit, it just adds some variety ya know. And everyone always ends up with their favourite.

actualy it would be absolutly unprecidented for any one member of an army to have even the slightest varient in their uniform. Im in the Army and trust me, EVERY THING must be the same even down to how you lace your boots.

but the outfit of the british army is different to the US army, as is the outfit of different sections of the british armed forces.
so for aliens, the different colours could symbolise different specialisations.
for marines maybe different branches of the TSA or again specialisations. you dont see the royal artillery wearing same as Para's

but there are no classes in ns(well, for the aliens, but there are no skulk classes).

The TSA is a single political and military entity, not made up of multiple national contingents, as in say the U.N. or the armies of the Persian Empire. That said, the only purpose for uniform distinctions would be rank and unit, however, there are no ranks (and giving such would make certain models more popular for obvious reasons...), and there are only two singularly distinct units: light armor and heavy armor. You can also, of course, have light armor with jetpacks, which is about the only place I can think of where such a change could come into play. It would seem kind of silly, however.

For aliens, on the one hand, I can imagine different colors... After all, not all dogs are black. However, they are all being produced, en masse, by one (to three) hives, with a severe "hive" mentality, which shouldn't allow such hideous deviations. Note that you don't see purple bees. I don't imagine that gorges evolved form skulks dropped by one hive would plop down a purple hive that produces purple skulks instead of the old skulks.

I think a little varation would be nice, as I used to have customs and change them a lot, but then the people I play with often go on consitency servers, so I had to go defult, it is boring, so any sort of colur variations may be nice, but it is probably too late tro do it now.

Also, gameplay > realism, so you dont need plausable explainations for different colours.....

Heres a pretty good model-in-development by commandox20: Female Marine Model

Warhammer rules OK!!! But on a serious not, this is a great idea, however I think it would be much better if there were 5 or 6 slightly different skins (to represent different units/broods) for each class and those skins were constant throughout the whole team, but that skin was randomly determined by the server (not a variable) at the beginning of each new round. This would mean that you wouldn't get different looking marines or skulks on the same team, but the colouring would change from round to round to represent different marine units or kharaa broods battling it our across the universe. I hope you can see what I mean, that's as good a way to put it as any I can think of atm. That would be really cool imo.

What happens when it's Aliens vs Aliens? Surely there'll need to be something to tell them appart?

It would be interesting to see what the dev team have in mind.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a limit on the amount of models that the HL engine can load? Or am i totally off the mark?

The marines in the movie Aliens (which NS is mildy linspired by, if for some reason someone didn't notice) had different armor pieces and stuff. So I think the marines in NS could have armor at different places or different color armor or something.

for AvA and MvM this would be freakin' nice! All you gotta do is change the blue to green/red/orange whatever...

Red marines vs Green Marines. Orange Aliens Vs Yellow aliens. I like it. But I think in normal MvA this isn't really needed for marines, but it can work for the aliens.
