Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Gorgey Gone?

Oh where, Oh where could he be?
Is "playing gorge" a thing of the past? In NS 2.0 it seems that gorging is a temporary role at best. Gone are the days of waddling your pudgy little butt into a hive, set some D and save. To me this seems counter intuitive that someone should only “go gorge “ to drop a building or hive then switch back to an assault class. So far it just doesn’t seem as effective or feasible to “play gorge”. Opinions? Is this what was intended?

Sitting in a hive waiting for my res to tick up to 80 is not my idea of fun. Notice how you don't need to do that now ?
Do I want to be a Gorge for the team for the entire game?
Do I want to be a Skulk and save up res. for a hive?
Do I want to go Fade or Lerk for team-support?
When I go Gorge, I am not going to be the one saving for the hive. I'm going to be the one capping nodes, dropping offense chambers and upgraded chambers. That's the true-role of a full-time game Gorge. A skulk on your team can help put up the hive by themselves, its just how it goe's.
From my (Admittedly limited) playtime, I think the new resource model is really much more geared to part-time gorges, since the ones with all the resources are the actual fighters (Because of the kill resource bonus).
the temp gorge tactice is used for rt rushing... resources are important and can easily be taken by the alien team and fast. if all members on the alien team take 1 resource tower... which they can then the aliens will get a huge boost in resources... but if everyone on the alien team changed to gorge to take a rt and didnt change back then there would be no skulks to fight the rines... therefore, alot of times, you will see gorges put down a rt and change back to skulk.
However, I do see far more gorges getting killed in combat which may explain why you notice that gorges are not gorges the entire game. In 1.04 if you lost a gorge it could almost lose you the game. Now it really doesn't matter. So the lack of gorges where you play might just be due to the fact that they now don't mind getting killed and spending 30 seconds or so as a skulk.
Now comes the part where I sit and stare at your post to figure out if that's sarcasm or not
In all honesty, the way I have seen things, is that early-game the skulks end up with a considerable amount of resources, since early-game marines are easy to pop (ambushing 2-3 marines at a time can net anywhere from 3-9 resources). Temp-gorges appear sort of at-need, and usually vanish soon after back into the little gnawy skulks that spawned them
I am considering waiting for a bit, killing a few marines and dropping two RT's. We'll see.
The one game that I decided to do permanent gorging, resource came in so slow that I got bored, went battle gorge and got myself killed. Since I had no resources I skulked for quite some time. Since other?s had gone gorge and put up hives / RT?s I eventually went lerk.

This is not what I did, I would drop a few RT's and some OC's and DC's slowly as I let my res build. I would patrol around the hive, healing skulks as they came, not hide in a corner hoping marines didn't show. Currently, the gorge is a much better fighter than he was in 1.04, but now the res is alot slower. It seems the best way to play gorge is to not "play" him at all but only go gorge to drop structures. Granted it has only been 5 days so more time is needed to adjust to the new res system. I was just wondering how many people percieved this as I did.

Not at all -- I'm just happy to hear people talking about the 2.0 version of the permagorge, which is a much more active, support-and-combat-oriented role (not to mention siege!). People are learning. (:

Yes they do.
I think Gorg is becoming more of a support class rather than the player the team revolves around, using heal spray and building cloaking towers to make skulks invisible. Maybe thatll change, who knows.
Holy tomato. I'm in love with this game.
As the game progresses, aliens get 2 or 3 hives, and marines get multiple bases and jetpacks, permanent gorges are needed more. 2 or 3 permanent gorges are even better, to set up structures as needed around the map, to repair/set up resource towers, to heal battle groups, to put up webs against jetpackers, and to bilebomb the enemy bases.
Often I find it comes down to a choice: Do I gorge and do what's best for the team, while having lots of fun? Or do I onos (which is also necessary for the team) and have TONS of fun. Lots of times, I base my decision on what's needed most at the moment.
Very smart man. If you're sitting on a lot of res, there's no better way to turn that into a res gathering investment. A resource node is a good trusty way, but a wall of ocs, perhaps healed with dcs or backed by a lerk with umbra will totally flow you some more res from the kills.
Or, spend it on a hive and help your teammates out.
Keep in mind, the game is resource focused right now. Resource nudes plus res for kills really make the difference. If you're not happy with the flow as a gorge, try to get some kills with teammate backup. My favorite is a sporing lerk and a spitting gorge. Gorge spit is wikkid fun.
i have seen 4 gorges spaming the bilebombs from vents to our base, and when we finaly got grenade launchers, I was told that I was SPAMING grenades in the vents.....please explain a way to counter this without grenade launchers, isn't that what they are for? clearing out vents and hives? we didn't have jetpacks, so its not like we could of flew up there to kill them that early on =p
If the aliens were complaining that by killing them in the vents you were "spamming", they were way out of line. Grenades are indeed the best counter to vent campers, and that's one of their primary purposes, along with clearing out walls of lame.
Now, if you were just constantly lobbing nades in there even though it was empty, that would count as "spamming", but I don't really see anything wrong with it.

eh, they're just upset they can't rip apart your base anymore.
Pay little attention about people complaining about others "whoring" something.
Plus, battle gorges are extra fun now. Super cool hammer and anvil tactics when combined with sens (and preferably silence).
Ack, being a gorge is very unrewarding..
i built sens in a hive and hid there, waiting for the last 5 res to build the hive but 3 rines managed to find me (silence would have helped so i could build more OC without them knowing)
still cloaking owns now as long as you aren't in a really-well-lit area teh rines have to waste ammo finding you (unless teh comm pings you)
skulks are much more effective now at killing without celerity - i could actually run into a couple mariens and take one down with me (also there was Mouse on our clan chanel in IRC: "skulk fu is back baby!" - ph34r it)
i've only played 2 games of 2.0 and i'm already in love with it....
