I'm Sick Of Marines *****ing

<div class="IPBDescription">about aliens being 'unfairly balanced'</div> Happened to me today, and I was getting sick of it. This one guy tried to kill himself / readyroom / etc out of me when I was consuming him, and got mad when he couldn't. Then they go on and on about how aliens always win because they have Onos at 1 hive, etc. I wanted to slap him across the face, but I couldn't. So I ate him again instead.

Anyone else sick of hearing people complain about balance? It's perfectly damn well balanced.

While I'm a big proponent of the wonders of 2.0 balance, I doubt I'd go quite THAT far.

And, yeah, it's irritating. I heard a lot of whining first day especially, about how marines had no chance now that aliens got oni at first hive. Bah. I was actually doing BETTER then than now (*sniffles*).

Devour is fine....I just wish I didn't have to sit in there for 30 seconds watching a red pulsating thing.....I JUST WANNA DIE.

Which is why I have P bound to kill. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Three seconds is more than enough time when you see them coming and you know what they're after. As a LA/LMG, you're as good as dead anyway, just spend three seconds emptying your LMG, and then kick the bucket and wait to respawn.

When I <b>DO</b> get devoured, I can only hope that it's when I have about half or less of my HP left. Devour isn't that great if you're only eating guys with 20 health left.

the POINT of devour is that u delay the respawning, and if u press your kill bind as soon as u see a onos, your just stupid ;p

I don't. I still find it funny. But that's like me going... "Oh, they have sieges! *presses button and hive is now invincible to siege*". It's stupid, avoids a meaningful purpose in the gameplay, and should be an instant kick.

I dont know why people are crying about 1 hive onos.
I still see fellow onii gettings owned in mere seconds to LMG fire. Its sick.
Only decent one is if you have redemption.
And thats annoying because it pulls me out before I start to have fun.
    I dunno.
I would like an accurate progress bar for devour though.
I keep seeing a blue bar but nothing informative.
I like to know when I can get another meal under my belt.
Plus 100 res takes awhile unless you rox0r the skulk skillz.

Exactly. I got owned by a pistol while I was digesting a guy. FFS, I killed a damn Onos with an elevator and wit. I just asked him to come get me, he did and was promptly crushed. It's very easy to take down an Onos - unless you're too busy complaining.

Onos would be the last-thing I'd whine about.
    Devour wait-time's is another story.

Whether or not devouring is annoying, starting the suicide timer before you're eaten so you can die in the Onos is clearly an exploit(or an oversight depending on how you look at it, either way it's incredibly cheap) and I know there are many admins out there that will kick/ban for it. There are a number of very good reasons why suiciding was disabled inside an Onos' stomach; Devour isn't just supposed to be an instant kill, it's supposed to delay one marine's respawn and also allow you to carry his weapon away from the action so it can't be retrieved if you want.

That said, I agree staring at the devour screen for 30 seconds is annoying and I wish there were a good way to get rid of the boredom without impacting the purpose of Devour. The only thing I can think of would be to put people into spectator mode as "Digesting" but still allow them to be put back in if they're saved, but I just don't really like that idea...

Also, you gotta think that the onos cost 100 res. Think of how many different kinds of chambers that could put up. Think of what the rines could do with 100 res. Onos should be a pain to deal with if you are rines. Heck, I'd even go so far as to say that onos may be overpriced, when you think about how much more could be done with 100 res than evolving into a big always redeeming target.

I think watching HLTV while beeing degested is far more fun than looking about 5 minutes at that damn stomach (10 times eaten * 30 seconds)

I see no arguemnt while this shouldn't be done? Why can't you see your mates while being digested. I mean you are dead.... only 1 of 20 times they rescue you.

someone posted a way to remove it...
which also allows you to see the -level- from the onos perspective, but appearently no models appear.

it was a specific file in the folde that had to be deleted. I didn't feel to need to remember or use it, because I don't have you problem with it... I'll try to find it again...

i love devour as a marine - I was a heavy that got eaten and my teammates killed the redemption onos, but a glitch happened. I popped out right next to the hive with near full health. I allerted my comm, and he immediatly built a phaze gate and our whole team avoided a bunch of fighting and took down a hive with no resistance - it was way cool. - so there is a warning for all you redemption oni out there - it may come back and bite you in the rear.

1 hive onos devour is Not needed, WHO HASNT SEEN A GAME GO ON FOR AN EXTRA 30 minutes becuase a bunch of aliens go onos and just run and devour and do nothing else. Devour is ment for heavy battles not for getting that 1 guy running around. Devour is the same as marines spamming their base with multiple TF and turrets its just stupid.

BTW I love NS 2.0 in large games and i like the new features. Maybe ill just type retry in console when i get devoured over and over, i can connect in under 10 sec so all is good.
  • ZekZek Join Date: 2002-11-10 Member: 7962Members, NS1 Playtester, Constellation, Reinforced - Shadow
Well, compared to Stomp and Charge, Devour at 1 hive is much less of a problem. Devour is almost useless against LA stock marines and only hurts the Onos' chances of getting away, and nub Onoses have trouble getting Devour off anyway without Stomp...
  • bwabwa Join Date: 2003-02-02 Member: 13026Members
I would have to say that kill is not the only way to get out of being devoured.

There's another command that can be exploited, although probably not as favourable.

I won't mention it here, because I don't want to be responsible for publishing exploits. Besides the devs probably already know.

generally... it's been in for the gestation on the aliens' side. Commanders can see it for upgrades and such.

For digestion, it does replace the HUD health display, as you'll notice that if you're eaten with less health, it'll both a) take less time to die, and b) the bar will start off more full than otherwise.
  • saberxsaberx Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 3044Members
Onos stomp is my primary complaint. It's area effect, prevents you from moving AND firing. It's just too annoying to walk around a corner into a cloaked onos who stomps and eats you at full health with your hmg.

I think paralysis was way more balanced, since it required the onos to aim it, was only single target, and the marine could still shoot.

Just for the record it takes 3 marines simultaneously shooting an onos to have an chance of stopping redeem from kicking in. Any less and redeem kicks in every time.

And again the devour pops up.
Come on, what's so bad about watching that beautiful pulsating Onos stomach?? Are you al so addicted to continious sensory overload that 30 seconds is that bad? Come on... commercials on American TV take longer than that. I'd rather watch a Devour screen 6 times in an hour than those stupid commercials.

Seriously, people who kill themselves before being devoured deserve to be banned. You cheat the Onos out of his devour and you cheat the game balance (remember it is designed to keep you out of the game for a while). If people do it on our server they're gone forever.
