Make some type of Pong/Tetris type game that you can play in the onos stumac. The storyline for it could be that the marine's nano armor can tell that its being digested, so cuts off all sensory imput to the marine and gives him something to do to make death less unpleasant.
My vote is to have the egg view... you can see, but only just barely. You could just basically make it first person view for an onos, and add the egg overlay.
Presto, no more 30 seconds doing nothing.
This would also balance devour a little bit, as you could see where the onos would run to... I suppose you'd have to make all chambers / aliens invisible while you are in the stomach, but you'd at least have an idea of where the oni are running to.

The team randomizer tends to throw me at the Marines more, and though Onos are very tough AND annoying a few marines with shotguns or HMGs can still take them down in a reasonable span of time. I think it is late-game, assuming all upgrades to be had.
I wouldn't run from the onos, empty you clip, whip out your knife and kill it (It's probably more scared of you than you are of it), after all it's 2.0 and they do go down easy.
Onos can go down with a couple of shots from a shotteh!
I think devour is an awesome weapon. And I don't mind waiting to be digested. It would be cool if they a better digesting animation instead of pulsating red flesh. I want to see arms, legs of previous comrades that have fallen in battle and gone the way of the large intestine.
I think the solution is to have a very tiny center piece of the "stomach" actually be partly transparent (looking out the back of the onos): enough so that you can catch glimpses of what's out there, but the opening is too small to really see anything in detail.
Benefits:
-reveals very little, but occasionally some useful info "I think I can just make out a res tower, wait I think I'm in the noname hive... no subspace" so it WILL keep the marine's interest as they try to figure out where they are and any helpful info. It also gives a slight downside to devour/redeem: the onos has to consider that if it is going to redeem, the marine might catch a glimpse of hive status and defenses. Though of course the onos can also back up against a wall and shake it's butt just to taunt the marine and block any possible view.
-the marine can also catch glimpses of any fellow marines chasing after the onos, which is both funny and heightens the suspense as he yells out for them to save him.
I also think that kill/f4 is a really really lame thing to do in any situation. Especially with the res for kills, it's steals anyway what the other player rightfully earned. I could kill myself anytime my health was low and I was under attack by skulks, just to make sure they didn't get my res.
The problem is, those things need to be in there. The only way to really police them is to have admins ban abusers.
I only use /kill when the aliens are being hella lame. Like this one time on they were just camping outside our spawn ,cloaked, just eating us as we came out. They made very half hearted attempts to finish us off(one out of the four camping would come in the base, eat a marine, gore another and walk out) and kept making weak devour jokes. Whenever one would come for me, I'd just use my kill bind before he got me.
Eventually we decided to recycle the IPs after this had gone on for about ten minutes.

AHHAHA! You gotta be shittin me! Onos is not THAT weak. I've tried shottie fun with them before. I See the Ono fairly close, and BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG and I still die. Now if you had some shottie armed teammates joining in, then the Ono would be dying.
Devour wait-time's is another story. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Thats the whole f***** point retard.
I wouldn't run from the onos, empty you clip, whip out your knife and kill it (It's probably more scared of you than you are of it), after all it's 2.0 and they do go down easy.

Sounds like my kind of guy. When I was on n00b NS servers and I had time to play around while I was a marine, when we were screwed beyond all point of going back on bast and eclipse, instead of doing the F4 I chose to turn around, empty my clips, and knife the poor Khaara. It's quite amusing, seeing yourself get a 1:4 kill:die ratio, but that's the name of the game <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->.

I think devour is an awesome weapon. And I don't mind waiting to be digested. It would be cool if they a better digesting animation instead of pulsating red flesh. I want to see arms, legs of previous comrades that have fallen in battle and gone the way of the large intestine.
<!--c2--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->
Or for you guys out there who were talking about pong, I suggest maybe a mini-game like marines vs aliens for SNES or something. I would be willing to help out on that if I got a hold of the NS source code <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->.
But seriously, I don't see why many of you are complaining. This's just one way of avoiding the ever popular tech rush, and onos aren't that great. Personally I think that fade with redemption, adrenaline, and cloaking is better, but that's me....
I've seen this happen a couple times as a redemption onos: die and leave a marine in the hive. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Lucky for me niether of them were as quick to
capitalize on it the way your team did, they just
knifed the hive until skulks got them.
Step 1.) Scream like a pansy.
Step 3.) Turn 360 degrees.
Step 4.) <span style='color:red'><b><u>RUN LIKE HELL!!</u></b></span> <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
but why would you want to go towards the onos?<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Because you -Are- going to circle strafe knife his chunky arse .... what, don't gimmie that look, someone said an onos dies in two shotteh hits <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> pick on him *kiddin'!* <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
slightly more on topic, heh, yea lotsa whining and that about aliens but *cough, cough, choke* balance pfft <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> it's kinda accepted that aliens have an advantage, the advantage size is debatable, and that's why on most pub games i see aliens with 2 more players than marines (stacking, gracefull loosing obviously isn't as good as graceful winning <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> ). Doesn't help that too many com's have reverted to CC slime, heh never alterin' the plan to fit how the games going and still following the com's clipcard : "Tech, grab a few rts, but don't be ambitious, let the aliens have 2/3 the res because you will be scared to risk leaving base without HA and turret farm, never give marines attack orders for anything but hives, and never without spending hours letting the aliens prepare whilst you get those lvl 3 everything/full team HA... P.S -When- you are positively going to loose, and are stuck on 1 rt vs the whole map fulla alien rts/hives, turret up even more to drag the game on needlessly <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> "
<!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo--> ah, there's my rant(s) all in one, now put me on the pile... the big one over there with everyone who's ranted since 2.0, so i dun feel alone <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Anyone who evolves Redemption as an Onos deserves to be kicked in the face hard.
PM me if you think I am wrong.
