Turning speed

This is something I've been wondering about for quite some time:

- Background info before question because I sed!
In most games/mods, your character is able to turn as quickly as you can move the mouse.

- Question
Now, is this the case with the bigger aliens - Lev. 5, specifically - or do they have a maximum turning speed?

- Follow-up info/further questioning, again, because I sed!
If I picture an alien the, size of a small bus, turning in place without moving it's feet, it looks pretty silly. If, however, I picture the above situation taking place at a very rapid rate of speed, it looks rather ridiculous. Has this been taken into account? If so, what has been done to remedy it? Please understand that though it may look odd, I have no problem with however this is handled. I'm just curious. My dreams need a bit of structure every now and again.

As far as I know, there are no present limitations on turn speed. The team tends to forgo realism when it endangers 'fun factor'.

Anyone found altering my sensitvity (14.63) and my m_pitch value (-0.285) will be packaged into a small box and sent to the Sounth pole.

In other words: I repeat what Mole said.

I think it would be better if there was a maximum turning speed, it would cause people to think more about attacking before they do it

    But that's just me

bad situation: attacked from the side, you jerk your hand over to see what it is, the character lags behind and you're stuck trying to reorient yourself as you die.

Yup Gwahir. If you reduce the turn speed, and someone spins the mouse quickly to face an enenmy, they would over turn and get everyone quite annoyed. Rampaging around a base as level 5 is hard enough right now cause you are so big, no more handicaps please

There's no way to slow turning speed, as it can always be turned up by mouse driver applets and through the OS. Trying to limit it in any way is folly and will only be circumvented by those in the "know".

Bah... the highest sensitivity is the only way to go.. anything lower really annoys me.

TiCK, You realize theres a sensitivity console command right? (I tried putting it to 9999, Don't, You spin around faster than a helicoptor rotor, 0.1 is lowest noticable value, Any lower and you can't turn, Period.) The slider in adv. in controls menu i think just puts it to 16 max, Or you can set the # in the customize menu... mine is ALWAYS 8.000000. If i am playing a new mod for the 1st time, i just use the console command in case i forget to put it to 8... Basically: I'm saying no, No limits on turning speed.
Also, You could have a turnleft/turnright animation for each model, That is not played while moving of course, Or it could have a different (runturnright/runturnleft or something) moving-turning animation...
[edit] yes, i know its just dumb to put more than 3 9s in a value for a cvar and stuff, only exception would be for the gravity, especially in NS, where it could be a large ship, and the artificial gravity system is malfunctioning, and the marines can repair it, possibly with a func_weldable? more of a mapping suggestion though, might try posting there somewhere... (if i get the right time to put it or see the right spot for it...) [/edit]

Putting anything with three or more "9s" in the console after a c_var or other input is just plain stupid. There is a reason why the setting in the controls area maxes out at some number, I'll take your word for it being 16.

I just got a new mouse (a mircosoft wireless optical) and I have had trouble finding a smooth setting for it does anyone else have one that knows of a good setting for it?

    Tell us what os pweeze

Make sure you have mouse filter on

The lowest sensitivity possible is 1

And lower sensitivitys are always better

I am on Windows XP and I am not sure about the mouse filter where can I check that?

So you guys are saying that an alien the size of a bus is able to just spin around instantaneously? Not that I mind (it would certainly be more fun for the player controlling the alien). I'm just curious.

    Yup. You've got it exactly.

It's simply a case of fun. This what the PT's have been doing the whole time; trying to find a decent balance between realism and fun. Realism doesn't always equal fun, it's best to tread the line between them Besides, including something like this that can be quite easily hacked around is a bit pointless anyway
