I know it doesn't look like the XM8 on world guns.ru, but I saw it from a newspaper clipping and thought it looked pretty cool

    reference:

    *edit* I had to delete a few "varients" (command, grenade launcher, etc) to get the reference picture to fit since it's so big....

    i'd like to see those other variants

    is it possible to have the different variants go seemless into eachother when you swap guns ingame?

    looks sleek and tasty to me....but just make it any other colour besides banana yellow. <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

    About 90% done. You'll have to redo the scope, burn. The lenses aren't modelled, which means they'd have to be drawn ontop of a face. That would look ugly. Also, the scope has what you could call a brim. But it's not modelled on the inside faces. I managed to optimize the model a little and cut about 100 polys.

    Man, that curve on that model of the xm8 makes it look like its from the future...yuck.

    Good model, though <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I'm not sure what you ment about the lens, but i remodelled the scope and hollowed it out.

    When I say 90% done. I mean the skinmesh of course. It still needs skinning, animating, smoothing and compiling.

    helloooo! this weapon will maybe replace the current m16 / m4 series in the us army in some years .. thats why he meant it looks sci fi... this gunney is a real concept (eeewwwww <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ) and not a brainfart from some sci fi authors

    Burn.. great work again dood..
    but that one isnt really my taste... looks like a regular xm receiver with lots of polymer stuff build around.. another "drastic plastic"
    and i thought the vector21 assault rifle was eewww.. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    And now to label this mess...

    This thing is taking six 512x512s! It really is an utter mess.
    I really have no idea how this gun works either. I don't see a bolt anywhere, and this charging handle confuses me.

    It is based on the G-36

    The charging handle is the rectangular thing under the carrying handle; the G-36 has two I believe but cant' remember off the top of my head.

    Jamil: To be honest this is my first model that was ever skinmeshed so I'm not sure how to make it clean and easy for skinmeshers/skinners since I've never had experience doing it <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> but lemme know how to make it better for skinmeshers in the future and I'll try that. I usually label all of my groups but I didn't this time >.< sorry

    Now the reason I made this is because it's an xm8, but it doesn't look like all the other xm8's out there <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> I thought neato, and gave it a try <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    u2 jamil.

    burn, the g36 has a single khawking lever, it just swings both left <i>and</i> right.. the germans are smart like that.

    Right, to actually use it, check out the animations on the G-36

    <a href='http://gunshop.clandeadgoat.net/rifles/GIjoe/rifle.htm' target='_blank'>http://gunshop.clandeadgoat.net/rifles/GIjoe/rifle.htm</a>

    might have to do it in slow motion in HLMV to see it

    btw it IS a real weapon and it IS replacing the M16 in a few years (some friends of mine in the SF stationed in Fort Lewis WA have put their hands on a few of them for testing purposes) also they might be sent a few to go play with over in the desert.

    very nice work on the model and skinning, I'd like to see this finished and with animations.

    I had to change all your groups anyway.

    Umm, the skinmeshing wasn't all that easy at all. Biggest problem was, the gun wasn't just one solid mesh. It was built by parts stuck together. There are a lot of hidden faces, and partial faces poking out. The only reason two meshes shouldn't be joined together is for animating purposes. My skinmesh isn't the greatest either. I give space to things you'll probably never see or see much in game. For next time, you should probably fill in the slot for the magazine. I deleted a lot of inside faces, but they might need to be remade depending on how the animations will work.

    It took me about 14 hours to do the whole thing.

    I'm not so sure about the accuracy of the charging handle, burn. You've got a spoonshaped thing going there, is that really how it looks?

    not sure, just had a side view to work with. I couldn't remember how the animation on the G-36 actually went when I was modelling it, I thought the whole thing cranked out to the left or right and went back but I guess that was wrong <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Its a g36 with a different shell over it. Even the same variations, short, long, and machinegun version.
  • ChronoChrono Local flyboy Join Date: 2003-08-05 Member: 18989Members
    just a question has anyone started animating this thing or do you have to wait till its skinned? sorry im learing about modeling
  • JamilJamil Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4829Members
    No, you don't have to wait until it is skinned to animate. As soon as the mesh(that means model, don't confuse with skinmesh) is complete, you can add bones and go.

    does this weapon strike anyone else as a blatant G36 ripoff? or is it a H&K?
    *just did some reading, it is a derivative of the G36*
