How Does The Obs Work?

<div class="IPBDescription">!!</div> I'm still confused about the obs. People say "ogm place an obs here and everything will uncloak" but it doesn't seem to? Is this true? And why place an obs when you can just scan the area?

I think buildings don't uncloak. Lifeforms do, however, in a certain radius. And yes, you could just scan the area. It's only a temporary measure, but if that's all you need, don't waste the res.

It does, and cos obs is more permanent and means you dont have to repeatedly scan an area.

an obs is 20 resources and a new pool of energy to scan from

if placed in a strategical position, it will prevent cloaked attacks anywhere within a certain radius

in addition, it will allow you to scan more as you'll have more energy

whereas with only one obs you will run out of energy to scan with

although you may run out of energy even with 2 observatories

which is why it is useful to have observatories in strategical positions when you can't scan

    because you don't need to

Within the Obs area of effect it will uncloak everything within a certain radius. An Obs is a more permanent solution to a sometimes permanent problem, or sometimes static problem, but regardless, in certain spots, it's a good idea.

    How big is the radius?

Like as big as a TF or so?

click the observatory.. it will have a green circle around it.. that is the effective area.. the same kind of circle around a comm chair or a tf

Pretty big. Maybe twice the size of the TF radius or a bit more.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it can only uncloak things if it is in the observatories field of view. If something is cloaked behind a wall, the obs will not uncloak it, even if it is inside its radius.

It will uncloak things that are not in its FOV

I thought it was siege range? Hmm. Now I'm confused. Which one's bigger, siege range or double tfac range? *sniffles* So confused...

    - obs decloacs cloaked unints in its radius. Structures stay cloaked.
    - each obs slowly collects energy up to "100" , 25 energy are used for scanner sweeps.
    - scanner sweeps decloak everything in its radius, it all shows up on the minimap, too.
    - obs are essential for phase tech. When the obs is gone, phasetech is gone, too.
    - obs are needed for motion tracking. When the obs is gone MT (motion tracking) it gone, too.
    - MT does not show units or webs in range of an SC, only if scanner sweeps are used or an obs is nearby.

    - when you drop a structure_hive in SC range its only visible for one second. when someone keeps the turrets busy for that second you can drop a hive inside of a turret farm and crush it with movement chambers / redemption. you could even do this with an obs nearby when the turrets cant aim at the visible gorge.
