Heh, I should have read the changelog more thoroughly. Was wondering what was causing this and just chalked it up to a bug, but now I know. Yeah, it is annoying.

These are the binds that I use for weapon switching and I haven't had any problems with switching from bite to leap and being able to still leap. Also, I'm sure that using the "lastweapon" method still works too. Sorry if I'm saying somthing that was already said before - I didn't want to bother reading the entire thread.
I have my mouse4 button bound to last used weapon to switch between bite/leap quickly, so I run into this issue a lot. I don't like the idea of this anti scripting stuff. The only problem I ever saw was pistol scripting, but everything else I think is fair game.

I get this a TON as skulk and it's annoying to no end. I don't use quickswitch, I use 1-4 normally, just out of habit. Normal scenario is: run around with leap active, find a marine, leap at him, immediately press 1, and sit around on his face for a while because I'm not allowed to bite until the timer runs out. Or I slip off the marine before I can bite him and end up across the room with a still-alive marine for my troubles. I can't see a reason for aliens to have weapon switch timers. Adrenaline is limit enough for special attacks. Please please please please fix the skulk timers at least.
P.S. Current timers only allow 1 leap after xenocide. Perhaps its best that way but it's still rather annoying only having a very small timeframe to execute within.
<!--QuoteBegin--Droggog+Aug 14 2003, 04:49 AM--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Droggog @ Aug 14 2003, 04:49 AM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> This issue annoy me too. And when the attack doesnt happen, it still consume energy ... really annoying. Anti-script? bah, first of all scripts are in HL for a good reason; to be used. Second, i can manually switch weapons at the same speed that a script will do (hud_fastswitch 1, and slot1 slot2 slot3 slot4 bound to keys near my arrowkeys.. instant change).
Useless. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> scripts were never part of the original HL (if you go by the GUI configs) nither were weapon binds (untill opposing force) and seeing a moron use the 180 turn tau/nade/missle jump combos over and over got lame. So dont whine about anti-scripting being bad. (HL wasnt supposed to be quake remember? and NS isnt supposed to be dominated by scripters)
Until my script AIMS for me, it will not be lame. Scripts do one thing, an exact sequence of steps the same way. Completely useless for leap/biting.
And this is NS. I don't really see my skulk pulling out a tau, tau-jumping, switching to shotgun, firing, and doing some obscene weapon combo. I'm willing to say that using scripts makes it HARDER to play than just using your hands. (for instance, take leap/biting. with lastinv, you first select bite, then leap, click, hit q, and click upon contact. As opposed to a script, where you'd probably be holding a key down to execute the move. Does it take less button presses? Yes, but you have to hold a key. It doesn't seem like much, but tell me, could you play well without the ability to use one of your fingers?)
This is (IMO) a very artificial way to limit player ABILITY and does little to combat the issue of "downloaded" skill. Scripts != skill. They provide nothing to a player, just because I'm smart enough to realize how to make a use toggle doesn't mean I have any sort of massive advantage over any other player.
BTW: Flayra DID have an anti-script thing in where you couldn't weaponswitch REALLY fast, and AFAIK, it was for the purposes of making scripting harder. So its not like this is something completely out of the blue, he is known to not like scripting.
How many of you people have experienced the one hive leap bug? One game I had both Xeno and Leap slectable with one hive, though Xeno didn't explode, it did do the kamikaze death scream and I did scare some marines shitless on a rush. I was able to leap infinitely because it didn't require any energy, yet it did leap properly. Even after I died and respawned, I could still leap.

when i switch weapon and fire quickly then it uses the previous weapon instead of the one i switched to for the first shot at least then when i see that i think that it didn't switch and then i hit the switch weapon button again and go back to the first weapon. it very confusing. i'm annoyed too. it's not right to be punished for being very dexterous.

You view it as if its flawed. Look at it this way: The alien can't bite and then leap away insantly just as the marine can't fire 20 grenades in a row. Sort of a reload time.
If you want some logical reason...biting or parasiting as a skulk throws you off balance a little bit. You can move and regain but a leap wouldn't work because you need perfect balance for the leap. Therefore you must wait a sec or so to regain your balance before you can leap.
<b>The Anti-script code gives a HUGE unfair advantage to those who use timed scripts</b>
Yep, the only way around the code, is to get a <b>SCRIPT</b> that times your weapon switches just right. Then you have a supreme advantage over someone trying to manually switch, screwing up by a fraction of a second, losing all their energy and dying.
I made a script to combat this for 1.0 and it worked like a charm (I was so TICKED at dying as a newly spawned fade just because I was trying to normally use my abilites). 2.0 Isn't quite that bad, because you don't face immediate death for pressing fire a hundreth of a second too early, but the frustration level is getting there... espcially since this isn't even looked at as a problem by Flayra.
But the harsh irony is <b>THE ANTI-SCRIPT CODE ONLY HURTS NON-SCRIPTERS</b>, the scripters get full ability benifits, by having everything timed automatically.
Im stating to ask myself if there ist anti script code includet in 2.0! If we assume that 1.04 was script preventing free, the onlty things which have changed in 2.0 are the weapon change times.
The problems with leap, blink and chage also cold happen in 1.04, but you could switch to leap immediately so the bug(pressing fire during weapon activation time causes an graphicless, soundless and movementchangingless attack) did not occur.
To solve the problem two tings can be done: 1. set all weapon activation times to zero -> will increase gameplay for alien players... but will make them very powerfull 2. fix the bug -> pressing fire during weapon activation will not cause failed attacks(leaps)
