I've made a marine-side low poly pack (contains low poly versions of most marine structures)
Its all ready to be uploaded but I need someone to host it.
Its 318kb zipped, which is too big for the NS forums to host.
Here's an extract from the readme.txt:

...that's a lot!!! (i.e. u could create 3 of these bases using my low poly pack; and it would be LESS gfx intensive than 1 base using the original models)

This Pack does NOT contain player models, weapon models, or alien structures.
Also it does not (yet) contain an observatory, resource tower or phase gate.
NS will use these default models
Also stating the obvious - this is not a cheat, hack, exploit etc...
if server enforce mp_fileconsistency 1, use original models

But i wont be doing low poly weapon models (just replace the mdl with null.mdl if the weapons bother u)

This screenshot shows the low poly buildings.
The SGs may look highly see-through, but dont worry - you wont have any trouble locating them.
You'll notice my FPS on this pic is 22. This is very good when you consider that i am playing on a p450 Voodoo2 (no jokes), and there a quite a few structures in the pic (includin a high poly RT behind me)<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The .gif may look 'bitty' this is simply because it was transferred from a .bmp to a .gif. Also i am running in the 512x320 resolution.
If this release takes well, by the end of today (saturday) or sunday ill get release 2 out of the way. It'll feature low poly:
-Player models (i think ill keep the original skins (as opposed to using one plain colour) otherwise it'll totally kill the atmosphere)
-Alien structures
-An observatory
-A marine RT
-A phase gate
-Possible bug fixes (some structures are see-thru depending on where you look at them. if u find this a huge problem (i dont) then ill fix them)
Oh - 1 more thing, i think this pack will be named the 'Lego Pack' - on account of the one color structures (check the attachment)

[EDIT] OK ive just looked at this pic, it is NOT flattering. i spent 1 minute gettin this picture. You may be thinkin 'WTH is that red block' etc, well if u've played 1.04/2.0 enough u'll have to take my word when i say DONT worry, u will be able to tell what they are (and remember i may fix them if i have the time)
Why don't you just make blocks ? soo much easier and pretty.
as for making blocks, spark - it was soo much easier for me to hack pieces off the orignal models, it means there are no problems with hitboxes or animations.
and about pieces missing, read my previous post. it says:
(a) in-game, its not a problem
(b) i'll fix it if u lot find it a problem

im not a fan of computers (apart from HL <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> ) so in those 4 years, the only things ive added to it is 64mb ram, and a voodoo2 card. so my specs
-P450
-128Mb RAM
-2 Voodoo2 cards (in SLI mode: 16Mb)
-Windows 98 1st edition
Anyway, the file is hosted now. 2 other people have been sent it as an e-mail.
<b>Remember this is a 1st release,</b> even NS was NOT perfect as a 1st release, so dont expect this to be. Im a newbie modeller, and this low poly pack was a 1 man operation.
but as ive stated many times in this topic, i WILL make it look better if u all find it looks too crappy (but remember: its gotta look crappy to have low poly)
