Do People Realize That Structures

look diffrent when unbuilt?
:: begins rant ::

This is getting very annoying. There is a bug in 2.0 that prevents me from issuing BUILD orders most of the time, I just end up getting "go to waypoint" message (this is a bug thats known) but WHY of FARGEN why do people run by unbuilt structures? ESPECIALLY when this structures are dropped at SPAWN for craps sake.

Almost every structure in the game looks diffrent before its deployed (OBS isnt open, ARMS lab isnt open, turret sits with barrel pointed to the ground) and ALL of the structures have YELLOW circles around them indicating that they have yet to be built.

So PLEASE i beg you, pay attention when you spawn, and READ your damn chat text, dont rely on VOICE spamming to tell you everything

thank you

the most annoying thing is typing "BUILD THE PROTO LAB NOW OR WE LOSE" and yet people just run past it.

I've been known to hop out and build stuff myself.

Alas, this is a VERY bad practice. :-/

/sarcasm Why? You dont get any res for building stuff, only for goin and killin some stuff, why would I want to build any of your silly structures? /sarcasm

Sorry, works better if I can add "I just want to save for Onos" but its a marine perspective

Not always... You just have to know when it's okay... Not when marines might need healthspam, for example. And not when some nub is ready to steal the chair. The fact is, turning that commander into a PLAYER is actually a huge boost to small marine teams, especially in the early game, where a commander who is actively defending base can save the team a guy at marine start.

But, uhm, yeah, the whole "why should I build?" complex is annoying.

In psychological terms it is called diffusion of responsibility. If you ask a group to do a task requiring only one individual then they are less likely to act because each one of them doesn't feel responsible for it. But if you ask an individual out of the group to do it then that individual is more likely to do it because you have identified him/her as having the responsibility. So instead of yelling at your marines "Build this!", look at who is near the structure and ask that specific person to build it. I think a few lesson in psychology really would help people command.

All marines need to know is that if they build that thingy near them, they get big guns. And big guns = win.

I've walked by unbuilt structures before. Sometimes, when I'm in a hurry to get to my WP, or to save an outpost, I'll forget to sweep through the MS and look for something that needs to be built. Granted, some people die frequently and never notice, but it can often take me 1-2 deaths before I will walk by a structure and realize it hasn't been built yet.

Don't step out. Very bad very bad very bad. Never get out of the chair. Comming requires 100% of your attention, 100% of the time. Give them waypoints to build something.

Also, newbies haven't yet learned to recognize the difference between built and unbuilt structures yet, so give em a break. Waypoints work miracles.

Yeah it is all the new players. It will wear out as more people get used to NS. Reward players that own and do what you say with shotguns.

yes I too have found that it comes in VERY handy to call people by names. They react promtly and don't question you as much

THe groupthinkl mentality can get pretty bad. I would actually ask sometimes: "who wants HA + GL ?" and nobody answers. But they don't shy away from begging for them in situations where they aren't available :/

The only thing that pisses me off is people named \|422509-x.24.5b ....

i've noticed that...I rarely get "build structure at waypoint" anymore. Its always, move to your waypoint, and marines never listen to that. weird

Odd, I find that I can still do the 'Build structure at waypoint' as a commander. I don't even click on it sometimes, whenever it shows the health ring I click and it waypoints to build.

Easiest place to do that is bast marine start, but then we all know how cursed that marine start is to marines....build structure waypoints always worked for me there

Same problem on the alien side, really. Not only with players who just want to play the Big Cow, but also gorges who don't build their structures. They put a structure there, and then bounce around a bit waiting for it to grow on its own (which it actually does in the alien case, but it takes some time). Some people don't know what the use key is for.

Anyone else experienced the entire team screaming at you to upgrade, but they just keep running past the unbuilt arms/obs/protolab/etc,all the while ignoring you telling them that the structures are unbuilt?

I get this sometimes. Waypointing to the item, giving explicit orders over voicecom and over teamchat usually does the trick. And if it doesn't there are some serious problems, because that means your marines are ignoring you and it's time to use FOOD.

I've been having trouble with getting that 'Build Structure At Waypoint' thing to come up very consistently as comm in 2.0; most of the time, it simply tells the marines to go to that waypoint. I don't remember having this issue with 1.04.

Otherwise, I have been noticing marines running past unbuilt structures and ignoring orders, repeated multiple times over voice comm and text, with even explicit directoins on -where- aforementioned structure is located in the base (eg., obs is by the cc!). Once again, this happens to me on almost half the games I comm in 2.0; for some reason, I don't recall this sort of problem being nearly as prevalent in 1.04. Maybe being able to do that whole 'build structure at waypoint' more consistently would help. Marines do seem to be very good at building turret farms, though I can drop 10 turrets all over a hive, and my marines, without fail, will check every turret to make sure they're all up.

Odd - since the team gets res, not you yourself, I don't see why one would not want to build.

I *LOVE* building. Gives me a sense of accomplishment when I get killed by a Fade 2 secs later.

<-- actually getting better at killing things. Downing Onos with an LMG and reg armor is one of the more satisfying things to do.
