I do think people will learn *QUITE* quickly to work together as marines; example: a single level 1 (from what i've read) can be a scarry thing to kill, esp. if it droped on the marine; and when the lvl 1 xenocides, it usually takes out 2/3 marines if they were close together.

so hard to live solitary it forces you to live with someone (which you WILL be doing in the game, because you'll die quickly. see example above ) if the people dont like teamwork, then they can play as the aliens and see how hard it is to kill
4 marines.

imo; there will be lots of teamplay on both sides.

That's why you need a group of at least 4 marines. You can have each marine watch 90 degrees in their direction or something. Like, one marine could watch the ceiling, one watches the back, and maybe one or more watching the front and sides.

I never understood why the rear guy in a squad always carries a shotgun, and it seems to be true for all the armed forces, what advantage does the shotgun have when used at the rear?

To all those who think this would separate the community: I dont know what you guys are getting at, we are only talking about having a little release party with all the forum regulars as soon as NS is released. Just a couple of friendly games and then the server (maybe) gets disconnected and everyone heads off to the public servers.

It would b e nice for NSF to have a server and have like regular meetings or something though. Just some friendly bashing every now and then

Basically, this is just a release party, not a way to discriminate newbies etc.
• TiCKTiCK Join Date: 2002-05-30 Member: 708Members
Rico, how exactly do you classify "newbies"? As a person who hasn't played the game before? Who is new to the game?

Of course it isn't descriminating against "newbies" because if it was, only playtesters would be allowed since hardly anyone else besides them have played NS.

GGrrr.... This game need to come out faster, I hate playing DOD buts its all I have right now, I don't like how in that game camping is rewarded, usually with a sniper rifle or a machinegun, I prefer games like FA which emphasis assault, But I played FA to death and am fresh out of thing to play, Is that Gloom mod any good?

I never said 200~ ping is unplayable. I'm ALWAYS playing on 200~ ping... But the PL is what disturbs me.. I have huge spikes which are rather annoying... So playing in the USA servers is undoubtly not for me... European servers is what I need.

And BTW, I don't want to be the 'party pooper' but a T1 line CANNOT hold more than 16 people... Sorry to say so..
Unless the machine is really powered with loads of memory and a good processor then maybe.. It would be able to have 18.. But on a game like NS I think 14-16 is the idle

Hmm perhaps i need to clarify this:

Newbies: People usually new to the game or comunity. Good players that are inexperienced in the ways of the game.

n00bs: Annoying llamas who do everything to ruin the game for other players. Includes cheating, blocking and other kinds of stupid ideas that make other players angry.

Now since NS hasnt been played by a lot of people, by newbies i mean people who havent been in the comunity for a long time. And as i said, i never said we wouldnt play together, just that we would organize a little get together and only give the server passwords to those people who usually post on the forums or at least post sometimes in the forums. (meaning that people who just dl the mod off PHL and have never registered in the forums wont get the password)

Ferret, maybe we should talk on IRC and see what we can put together
• GobyWanGobyWan Join Date: 2002-02-22 Member: 234Members
A newbie to NS is someone who knows nothing about it. So, anyone who doesn't follow the forums or playtest or work on the dev team is pretty much a newbie, unless they thoroughly read RR.org.
• BattousaixBattousaix Join Date: 2002-06-25 Member: 822Members
so none of us are newbies coz we know the game completely and all the features..... but we never used them

I will be happy if NS has a community the size of SI, in servers I mean, In SI there is always a near full game to play in and you know pretty much all the regulars in the community, I like that.

Usually when you're going through place, the places behing you you've already been through. Not to mention the guy facing the rear is probably the only one, so he'll need some extra firepower, or something that can spread.

Either that, or if they're in tight quarters, something that comes up behind them is likely to be close, so a shotgun would come in handy.
• LongtoothLongtooth Join Date: 2002-07-02 Member: 863Members
Another reason I just thought of was that with the spread of the shotgun, when you are facing the rear there is no chance for you to accidentally hit your squad mates with the spread.

If I made a game, the lowest you would be able to put Friendly fire is 50% damage. I want people to feel sorry for their actions, and to take heavy consequences. Quick boot for multiple TKs in a certain amount of time. Like, if you TK 3 or 4 people in 4 minutes, you get booted.

I like Friendly fire. Makes people watch their fire when using explosives or spread weapons. I say whenever we play a forum game, we have Friendly Fire on, unless we vote it out or something, because... um... Friendly fire is good! Yeah.

In games like DOD FF is crucial, without it the game becomes a grenade spamming war....

I think the problem with having a release party is not so much pings or dedicated servers, but time zones. For some it may be 5am, others 1 pm in the middle of a work day. While this is unfortunate, it makes me feel bad to think those who post regularly and are part of the community (ie not me) will be left out.

Oh and Longtooth why don't you play SI 0.98 beta? I played with you and Gwahir a couple of days ago.
