    I like the new sight so much that I use it nearly all the time!   <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

    which is where my question lies, how is it that this will be restricted in use, does it have an energy level that decreases with use, like the flashlight?

    Not at all. Use is unrestricted. I don't see why it should be either - it's just a handy tool to see where your buddies are if the area is very dark. It makes it a LOT easier to coordinate and see what's going on, so I think that restricting its use could only have negative effects on the gameplay.

    Well, it only shows aliens and alien structures, so it's not a *huge* boon.  It also only shows aliens in sight; Hive Sight takes care of those you can't see.  It's not a huge advantage, so being able to leave it on at all times doesn't cause balance issues.

    Just to clarify: It turns out that this is NOT hivesight. Don't get them mixed up. Aliens are still just as hidden behind walls as with this feature turned off, but all aliens which aren't in direct LOS will have a sprite drawn at their location.

    so does this mean that when u turn ur flashlight (its late watever it is) on then u cant see/use hivesight? soundz ok to me

    Flashlights on the alien side have nothing to do with the hivesight feature... the sprites that you can see through walls (the white/red circles) never dissapear. The flashlight key illuminates your fellow alien players/buildings making them easier to pick out in dark rooms.

    A lot of the principal behidn this addition (I believe)is that Flay and Co. wants the alien's navigation and coordination to be organic and almost natural, like a hive of insects. Hive sight not only shows where buddies are behind walls, but it also shows you any marines that your buddies can see and tells you when alien structures are under attack and where. Because the aliens are more skill based, this info is most useful if you know hte map and vent layout. The flashlight see aliens thing is there to assist in the heat of combat (EX: hey, my buddy just ran into that shadowy groove in the generator, I think I'll come too and ambush some silly marine when he walks by) All in all, the alien system of navigation feels very cool and makes you feel like these things are extensions of yourself or a sixth sense. Nice job FLay. As for y'all, you wont be dissapointed. <!--emo&:angry:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':angry:'><!--endemo--> (oops, wrong emoticon)  <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

    did Flayra not say that there will be an upgrade to illuminate marines as well?
  • KidzeldaKidzelda Join Date: 2002-06-25 Member: 819Members
    It will only illuminate the marines you see, so they can't hide in corners.

    Full explanation of alien vision:

    1) AT ALL TIMES, aliens can see white sprites for teammates and hives through walls, and can see orange sprites for any marine or marine building that another alien can see.  These sprites DO NOT APPEAR if you can actually see the alien or marine in question.

    2) WHEN YOU TURN YOUR "FLASHLIGHT" ON, any aliens, alien structures, and webs you can physically see are illuminated in this new vision mode.  Great for finding teammates in dark rooms.

    3) IF YOU UPGRADE "ENHANCED HIVE SIGHT," your flashlight key will also illuminate any marines you can physically see.  It has no effect on anything not in your direct line of sight.

    I am suprised that I haven't posted in this topic yet.....I must have been alseep when all this happend,  Anyways is there a biological reason why the aliens can see the marines when they have upgraded the advanced hive sight?  Like do they see the humans pheremones or something?  Just a question,  I know its not a weapons mod. <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

    I say it should also change the color of the screen slightly or something like that, so you can more easily notice it's activated.

    I think all active TSA Marines just simultaneously poo-pooed their pants.   <!--emo&:0--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'><!--endemo-->

    Time to die...

    Now just if the Marines didn't have the rip-off (of hivemind) motion sensing we'd be ready to go.  <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    You can't run, and you can't hide.  The new alien sight looks r00t. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    If I can't run and hide exactly what can I do?  Stand there and soil myself?  That dosen't seem like a strategically sound idea.
  • BedwettingTypeBedwettingType Join Date: 2002-07-26 Member: 1001Members
    Lucky for you, the TSA has taken this into consideration, and engineered a complex high-tech device I like to call, a "trigger."

    I was talking to people while play Tour Of Duty,  and some people still think that the alien hivesite is a wallhack.  Its those closeminded CS thinking people that shouldn't be allowed to play NS.  They will just whine that there is no deagle or awp.
  • SurgeSurge asda4a3sklflkgh Join Date: 2002-07-14 Member: 944Members
    They're gonna <i>really</i> be angry/whiney, since no weapon has a usable scope or alternate fire, for that matter.  <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

    Kick-arse, now <i>we</i> get to 0wnZ0r CS players and make them look like pieces of meat.

    To quote Mark Rein: "<b>You men play like GIRLS!</b>"
