Lucid Dreams

Have you had any?
I've recently been having a lot of them. It's cool, but weird at the same time. Like, the day before yesterday, I had this dream where me and some people were staying at this house, and i only had control during certain parts(fight scenes) it was so awesome...I was like the kung-fu master, and I was putting the beat-down on Jason and Freddy Kreuger, and I killed Freddy with his own glove blade thingies.

And then yesterday, I was this uberl33t vampire Slayer/Immortal from Highlander and it was just pure awesomeness.

What will happen today???

Anyway, the point of this thread is to make a thread where you can post your lucid (or just really cool) dreams.

Umm... What's this... lucid... you speak of? Is he a friend of yours?
  • docchimpydocchimpy Join Date: 2003-07-19 Member: 18266Members
lucid dreaming is basically a dream where you can control yourself. No he is not my friend, as I rarely converse with psycological concepts. (Except on Fridays)

I wish I had some of those! Dude, I like... can't control myself... at ALL during dreams. It sucks cause like I'm in a dream and stuff. But I like do stuff... without... actually... wanting to... I guess. Actually! Wait! There was one that was sorta like that! I once dreamed that I could fly, and in this dream I did actually control myself. But I never though of trying anything like becoming a ninja or anything, cause I can't really THINK in my dreams or a wake up (my brain turns on or something- I once dreamed I was at school in my PJs and then I wondered why and right when I started thinking, I woke up.) Man, your dreams must be sooo much cooler than mine. Ah well, sleeping is really fun anyways.

Yeah, a lot of times I don't remember funny/fun dreams, but I remember almost all nightmares. I do remember some, however; AND, when I have a really good dream, I usually at least remember what it was about, but no details.

AS far as I can remember I've only been able to "control" myself in one dream I ever had. It was a cowboy dream (complete with grainy black and white) I had when I was a kid. And by "control" I mean that I could order the people in my dream (including myself) around by being a disembodies voice from the sky.

    Weird, huh?

It's pretty weird seeing a bunch of cowboys would just sit aroudn and stare at the sky for a few minutes while I shouted at them.

  • TychoCelchuuuTychoCelchuuu Anememone Join Date: 2002-03-23 Member: 345Members
The way I see it, there are 3 types of dreams: dreams where you sit back and watch, either from a first or a third person view (or something in between...), dreams where you THINK you are controlling things, and dreams where you CAN control things. I've heard of people who could literally control every part of their dream, so if they felt like flying through a yellow sky avoiding flashing blue cubes and eating taquitos, they could have that. I have dreams where it feels like I'm walking around and choosing which way to go, but I'm pretty sure that's just the 'experience' of the dream and I probably couldn't choose which way to go if I wanted too. Then there's just the weird ones, like when you play baseball with golden pomegranites. I had one of those last night.

Whenever I have a wet dream, I am capable of stopping the you know what from happening or just letting go. If I am tempted in those dreams and don't want to submit, I would stop from further actions happening. Also, in some other dreams, I am capable to decide what to do, like I am actually capable of choosing certain actions. I guess my mind must really be powerful or something.

Nah, I think it's just mental conditioning. I'm not sure though; I read a book that talked about it a while ago.

When I was a little kdi I had a problem with nightmares, so I tried to train myself to be able to control my dreams, but besides the cowboys, it never worked. I did manage to be able to get myself out of a dream though, when I realised I was having a nightmare I'd hear myself start yelling "Wake up!" off in the distance, and eventually it would get closer (not affecting the dream itself) until eventually I listened to myself.

Arr... Most of my dreams be lucid ones. I used to get nightmares quite bad 'till I learned to fight back in 'em, and now they be more like action movies. Quite fun, actually.

The trick is to keep in mind that you control whatever happens next, no matter what. Think happy thoughs, as they say. If you're convinved that something bad's going to happen it will, and it'll scare the livin' daylights out of ye.

If you wanna have lucid dreams, try keeping a log of all your dreams. Make sure that after you wake up, the first thing you do is record every detail of your dream in that log. Eventually, you're suppose to be able to develop the ability to control your dreams. I think this only works with reoccuring dreams -- which have never happened to me.

Er... and I used to wake up crying from dreams. Anyone else?
  • MedHeadMedHead Join Date: 2002-12-19 Member: 11115Members, Constellation
Yeah, I can do that. In several dreams I have simply jumped in the air and become weightless, flying around like a bird, anywhere I please. It's quite fun.

damn, I miss those pure action kicking **** dreams.

Granted, we don't remember most of our dreams and we dream all the time, so maybe I do kick lots of ****, but nowadays while I get some awesome fantasy stuff and wacked out environments and alternate universes, the action has slightly more fear and desperation I need to be like Robocop or Rambo or Terminator or playing Capture the Flag or soccer or something, landing on a tropical island suffering from a zombie invasion, and pushing deep into their caves and coming out the other side, and busting into abandoned homes with hall to hall fighting, not saving my sister from a knife wielder lol

that's pretty cool. I haven't nightmared in years, but all of the later ones (they were few but became always the same), I'd wake in paralysis, not even being able to open my eyelids. I'd lay there for a while, chilled in survival mode, and gradually grow very, very, very, very **** at my enemy. MOTHER **** **** WTH DO YOU THINK YOU R TIME TO DIE **** and I'd soon leap out of bed, snap the lights on, and snarl haha

I think I'd be REALLY cool to be able to control my dreams. I could be like Neo or something, but 10x betta.

I do have one repeating dream I usually get at least once every six months or so. Here it is:

So I'm in the middle of my sleep, right? Then somehow, my sleep goes through a transition. The thing is, this dream I speak of is only a matter of seconds long, though I wake up in the middle of the night. I think I dream of this once another dream finishes or something. Well, anyways, the one dream is where I see myself (1st person view) falling... falling... down a mountain side... the wind blowing through my hair... the feeling in your stomach when you are falling (I love rollercoasters)... and then I think. Thinking wakes me up. I think, WTH?! Why am I falling all of a sudden? Where the hell am I?! and I wake up. I don't know what this dream means or why I get it repeatively. All I know is that it's kinda fun, cuase every once in a while, I can lightly think when I dream (real light thinking), so I can like fall and enjoy it, cause I know I've seen this before- in a dream. You'd be surprised to know how relaxing it is to fall endlessly. Then my brain probably thinks a tad harder and I wake up.
I yap a lot... erm... I guess I should say I type a lot. Anyways, if there are any dream therapists out there, I'm just curious as to know of what these dreams mean. I don't really care whether or not I get a reply. Just don't ignore me. Bye. I'm off to bed.

if you think you never have dreams, or you think you do but dont remember them at all, then it could be a chemical thing.

try taking 100mg of vitamin B6 a half hour before bed..thats milligrams, not grams. itll be one or two pills depending on the size.

i used to never remember dreams, but now i do this about three times a week and i can wake up and remember vividly every stinkin thing i dreamt in very clear detail, it is amazing, thought provoking and fun.

1100 mg is a toxic dose, so never go over 1000 mg in a week, i dont want any of you getting sick or in trouble and blaming me

edit: if youre prone to nightmares it might nto be a good idea either...

    ARRRRR!

Last time I had a lucid dream it involved me being a skulk (in my dream). It was...kinda scary afterwards when I remembered what I did, and how I did it. Woke up with taste of copper in my mouth - blood. This was the scary bit. Allthough I realised afterwards I had bitten my tounge a bit, It was still scary to think for half a second that the dream may have been real somehow.
Oh, having being blessed with an incredible imagination, I am also cursed sometimes with uber-realistic dreams. Right down to feeling bullets ripping through your body when you are shot (The people I was eating while as a skulk in my dream were shooting me - they shot first...but still... Can you say overkill? ) Needless to say, human necks make a digusting sound when you snap them by force as in my dream :/. Oh and even though it was still a dream, It still hurt a lot when I was getting shot. GG stomach pains IRL and brain making stuff up about it I guess.

In terms of controlling things in dreams:

Do not try to bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead, try to realise the truth: there is no spoon.

...No wait, that's not right. That'll make you wake up.

Ok, seriously. The trick is to be sure that something's about to happen, not to try and alter something by force of your mind. It's very effective.

    Ummm....no wet dreams..please.

But i did hear that one way to encourage lucid dreaming is to question yourself all the time. Say- you're in the middle of math class. Ask yourself "Where am I? What am I doing? What Time is it?" I think that increases your awareness during dreams or somesuch. I am going to have to take that lucid dreaming course in my high school.

    EDIT: Arr Matey booty arr.

Ive done it a few times, usually I choose to fly! One time for some reason I chose to crash all the cars driving in my nieghborhood with the wave of my hand.

Supposedly, if you always do a certian thing in real life(until it becomes very common, like second nature) and question whether yer awake or dreaming, eventualy you will do that thing in your dreams also. I would look at my hand closely, turn it over and look at the other side to remind me to ask myself if I was dreaming or awake. Then I would look for something to read, because writting doesnt actually exist in dreams, you may think your reading but the letters dont actually form words. Your brain tricks you into thinking they do. If your aware of this in a dream youll see what Im talking about. Dont go with your first impression of what you read either, your mind will lie to you initially. study what your reading and youll notice it changes. Your brain will try to rationalize this, but dont let it trick you. Once you realize your dreaming, you can do ANYTHING you want!! After practice you can even manipulate your surroundings at will(I never got that much practice though) . It does work!!! Ive done it at least 3 times by this method in a 2 month period, but I dont do the hand thing anymore when Im awake, so I never try it in my dreams. Give it a try, if you enjoy dreaming, or exploring your mind and imagination its worth doing at least once.
