Many of them (like me) gravitated to NS because of its' offer of an uncompromising teamplay model. Finally a developer who is willing to deviate from the mainstream popularity, a developer who is not afraid to create a game that actually requires teamplay to be successful. Someone who is willing to take a chance and put in the work to nurture an idea which has yet to take hold but is slowly and surely gaining attention. Someone willing to work with a smaller teamplay community rather then going for the instant fame, recognition, and success of more mainstream ideas. Someone who desires to innovate rather then replicate.

When NS:C was first announced I did feel threatened, but not because a flood of CSers/DMers will be attracted to NS. I felt threatened because I don't want NS:C to overshadow the fundamental idea and genius of NS. I have no doublt NS:C will be popular and chances are probably more popular then NS. Maybe it is this reality that threatens me.

All your worries are pointless! This is soooo much fun and not comparable to CS or anything else! It's just great pure action

I hate when the playtesters get to play stuff first.

Hopefully NS:C will come out quickly and I won't have to endure 3 months of the PTs talking about how much the game rocks while I'm stuck just picturing it in my head .

Yeah, one of the greatest things about NS 2.0 was the removal of the score. Now people are focussing more on weakening the opposing team ,and aren't scared to die for other players shouting about how many kills they got.

I hope this new method of play doesn't go ahead for the other points raised here. Unforunately I think the devs have already made up their mind.

UMm Ricky, thats kinda THE POINT. You'll care about your score cause you wanna win. Its a seperate game though and has no effect on Classic NS

Well, like someone else said, this new Combat mode will be for the fraggers, thus more popular, since team-play mods are usually small communities of people who know each other very well. For example, take a look at Thievery for UT. With NS:C, there will be even less traditional NS servers to play on, most people want to join a server and blow everything away. I however, like a little bit of teamwork, I'm sick of the Quakes and deathmatch/team-deathmatch games.

ye ok, noone complains about what you favour. So don't complain about other people's taste. If you don't like ti don't play it. But I'm sure most of the NS players out there will love NS:C

Sigh... "Don't like it don't play it", that's a tired old cliche and one that makes me cringe every time I hear a poster use it. What I'm trying to say is people who love the team-play side of NS are worried the "Combat" NS will take over the original style in terms of popularity, as this new mode has less emphasis on teamplay, something I associate with CS and DoD. That's not to say I don't mind deathmatch once in a while, I just admired NS for its emphasis on teamwork and not on frag count.

So what if it does ? Flayras already stated it's hardly going to draw any resources away from NS: Classic and they'll still be servers runnin it you can play on.

What, precisely, is your objection ?

Oh dear, this is still going on...

I cringed, literally cringed, when I read BlueOne's post. (No offence to you, BlueOne, yours was just the last post I read that did this.) Like so many people on here, he has suggested a solution to a problem that doesn't exist yet, and in fact one where the solution may already be in place. Do we know how complex the objectives in this game-mode will be? Or what those objectives will be? No, we do not.

Flayra made one small comment about the way each team could win, but he never said whether that would be the only objective, if it would be the objective on every map etc. And even if it is, we have no idea if that would be a problem yet, because none of us have played it! It could be *perfect* like that!

Now. Let's, once again, lay some facts down.

* This is a new game mode. It isn't a completely new game in competition with NS, nor is it a replacement for NS Classic. It's an additional mode. It can do nothing but enhance the game as a whole.
* Yes, it will likely bring in players from other areas that weren't too intrigued by core NS. I'm not entirely convinced that more players playing the game should be considered a *bad* thing. Please don't simply assume they'll ruin the game just because they didn't come directly to it from 1.0... Everyone was new once. (Or twice, for those of us that have been on through 1.0 AND 2.0)
* It WILL be teamplay based. You've heard from the man himself. He's given one or two examples of HOW it will be team-based, but you should assume there'll be more there because, as I've stated before, we don't have even close to all the facts yet. The details of this mode WILL surprise us all.

Feel free to state your worries and ideas, constructively... but please, don't kill the mode off before it's even born.

At the end of the day you guys that still don't want it to happen have to accept two very big points...

1) That NS:C won't be deathmatch, because if you all go off and deathmatch...you'll all die...and if you all die...you lose the game. Simple as that. You aren't spawning to run off and kill things, because you will need to level up to be the most use for you...and in turn be the most use for yourself. Marines won't be able to sit around frag-whoring because they will still be vulnerable on their own as per NS, and they will also not GAIN anything...they'll just let the time run out and lose the game automatically.

All in all thanks to clarifications and such by Flayra, it does indeed look to be a modification on a "ruleset" rather than a completely new ruleset. It is still NS, but different enough to warrant its existance in theory.

2) If this game takes off, and brings people from all walks of gaming life, increasing the popularity of the NS Brand (NS and NS:C), then Flayra and the team will get more funding and more oppertunities...ergo, helping the team out with NS:C could ultimately end up helping out NS: Classic.

All those people saying "NS will be ruined by the inclusion of NS:C" have to realise that by nay-saying...and by not helping NS:C become popular...they are infact shooting themselves in the foot, because their favourite version of the game probably can't go on much better than it currently is without additional funding and support!

So over-all, there is actually NO reason to not support NS:C. Either because you like the idea of something new, or because you want NS Classic to get better and more popular with a beter standard of play...NS:C will help both!

To further clarify this, do you automagically come back with all the same upgrades or are you allowed to choose a number of upgrades equivalent to your level? For example, you may have had HA when you died but instead wish to play with a jetpack instead and take an additional weapon upgrade.

A second query, can you "save up" level upgrades in order to jump from shottie to hmg and bypass the grenade launcher?

For exmaple, if you chose to evolve to a gorge, and if you die, you'll still be a gorge, whenever you respawn, and if you had carpace also, you'd have that also

Flayra and co already have something decent to put on their CV's. They've made the best HL mod, for now. But I thought this mod was about the gameplay and emphasis on teamwork. The main focus on this Combat mode is just shooting things. What's that you say? It's not deathmatch because you can go in groups? You can do that in Counter Strike. The original NS mode will be wiped out pretty much, since deathmatch is what most people want in a game nowadays.

No worries, it will prove the dev team don't really care about being a different mod and just want to make it another Counter Strike machine.

Yes, which is actually quite useful. Just bypass the gorge and go directly lerk/fade. The gorge is pretty much useless in my opinion (bilebomb?!) and you wont get much esxperience as soon as you gorge...

On a side note: Ricky's holy crusade against ns:c (without even having played it) is quite entertaining

Quit the god dhamn rhetoric.

NS:C is nothing like CS, so stop comparing. You haven't even tried the game. Nor do you seem to have even a basic understanding of what it will be.

First, the main emphasis of regular NS is just shooting things... don't delude yourself. Sure, it's about resources, it's about other things too... but at the end of the day the team that kills more will win.

You think the orginal NS will be shutout because the NS:C will be such a huge improvement based off of your amazing deduction that most people don't like strategy... Man you are so wrong. People will get bored of NS:C and will only start to look at it to have fun or maybe a unique type of NS tourney. However, people will want to use their shooting skills to have a big impact on a more strategy involved enviroment... hence the need for regular NS.

And to your last point (if you can call it that), if NS did become a counter-strike 'machine', I don't see that as a bad thing considering last time I checked popularity was a good thing.

I think it all sounds great, it's like NS, but when you don't feel like thinking and you wanna battle right away.
• RR_Co-NRR_Co-N Join Date: 2002-12-11 Member: 10524Members
Making some new mode where battle is quick like CTF, DM or CS kind of mods could kill the amount of players seriously playing NS. Im quite sure alot of gamers with less time on their hands will somehow end up playing NS:Combat instead of the original game. A good or a bad thing, i dont know. But i feel like it could negatively effect NS as a game though. The players which will play NS:Combat will be primarily gamers that played NS before which results in less players playing NS. I dont think many CS players (or other mods) will forget about CS and join the NS ranks due to NS:combat.

Its not as if i dont like the idea but it could have a negative side effect on the original game.

Kind of similar to how the multi money maps killed starcraft in its original sense. It didnt have a bad effect on the popularity though.

If it was said before : sorry but i didnt feel like reading through 33 pages =P
